Charlotte hosts the most BJJ tournaments in North Carolina, followed by Raleigh, Fayetteville and Concord. Greensboro, Wilmington, Fuquay-Varina, Mooresville, Nags Head and Indian Trail hold smaller numbers of events.
NEWBREED is the most active organizer, with recurring events including the Raleigh Winter Championship, the Fayetteville Fall Championship and the Charlotte New Year Open. FUJI BJJ runs seasonal championships in Raleigh, Wilmington and Charlotte, and other regular events include the NAGA Greensboro Grappling Championship, Tap Cancer Out Raleigh, the Carolina Copperheads PGF Qualifier and the girls-only Chickjitsu OBX Halloween event.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are evenly balanced, and around three in ten events run kids divisions. Adult entry ranges widely, from around $20 to $200, with a median of about $50. Late summer and fall are the busiest period, with September, October, August and November all active.
