Auckland hosts more jiu jitsu competitions than anywhere else in New Zealand. The New Zealand Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (NZBJJF) is the most active organiser, running the NZ Nationals Gi / No-Gi and the Auckland Open. NZ Grappler brings its North Island Champs and Winter Nationals to Auckland, so there is usually a BJJ comp on the calendar.
Stealth Grappling runs the Auckland Regionals, and the Submission Grappling Nationals and ADCC South Pacific Invitational cater to No-Gi grapplers. Younger competitors can target the Oceania Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship. A small number of events have also been held in Pukekohe, south of the city. Upcoming events appear on this page as soon as organisers publish them.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in equal measure, while roughly one in eight events includes kids divisions and about one in ten has an absolute division. IBJJF rules are by far the most common ruleset, with ADCC and submission only rules also used. Adult entry usually costs around NZ$20–NZ$70. December is the busiest month, followed by November, August, July and March.
