Description

Held in Auckland, the KJJL Nationals brings together Kids, Teenagers and Juveniles from academies across New Zealand for a national-level championship featuring Gi and No-Gi competition.

The Kids Jiu-Jitsu League is an NZBJJF Youth Development Programme, providing young athletes with a structured competition pathway where they can gain experience, develop confidence and progress through competitive Jiu-Jitsu.

WHO CAN COMPETE

The KJJL Nationals 2027 welcomes young athletes from all academies, teams and affiliations.

Divisions are available for:

  • Kids
  • Teenagers
  • Juveniles
  • All eligible belt and experience levels
  • Gi
  • No-Gi

Athletes may register for Gi, No-Gi, or both, subject to age, belt and division eligibility.

No Adult divisions are offered at Kids Jiu-Jitsu League events.

6-STAR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The KJJL Nationals 2027 is an official NZBJJF 6-Star National Championship, carrying enhanced ranking value within the NZBJJF youth competition structure.

Athletes will have the opportunity to compete for National Championship titles, represent their academy and earn points toward the NZBJJF National Athlete Ranking.

NZBJJF NATIONAL RANKING POINTS

As a 6-Star National Championship, ranking points will be awarded according to final placement and the applicable NZBJJF ranking regulations.

RULES & DIVISIONS

The KJJL Nationals will be conducted under IBJJF rules and competition standards, together with applicable NZBJJF event regulations.

Age categories are determined according to the applicable IBJJF year-of-birth system.

Athletes, parents and coaches are responsible for ensuring all registration information is correct, including:

  • Athlete name
  • Academy
  • Belt / skill level
  • Age division
  • Weight division
  • Gi / No-Gi registration

WEIGH-IN & WEIGHT POLICY

Athletes must weigh in wearing the appropriate competition uniform.

Gi: Full competition GiNo-Gi: Competition No-Gi attire

Athletes are responsible for registering in the correct weight division.

Any athlete who exceeds the maximum permitted weight for their registered division at official weigh-in will be disqualified from that division.

There will be:

  • No weight division changes on competition day
  • No weight changes after brackets have been published
  • No refunds for athletes disqualified for failing to make weight

Parents, coaches and athletes are strongly encouraged to check weight well before competition day.

CHECKING DAY

Checking Day is the final opportunity to review the athlete's registration before brackets are finalised.

Please verify:

  • Athlete's full name
  • Academy
  • Age division
  • Belt / skill level
  • Weight category
  • Gi / No-Gi registration
  • Division status

Any permitted corrections, cancellations or registration changes must be completed within the published Checking Day period.

Once Checking Day closes and brackets are prepared, further changes may no longer be possible.

REFUND POLICY

100% Refund: Available until the published registration/refund deadline.

Checking Day: Partial refund or cancellation options may be available according to the published event policy.

After Checking Day: No refunds.

Failure to attend or failure to make the registered weight does not create eligibility for a refund.

REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS

EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION

Register during the published Early-Bird period to receive the applicable reduced entry fee.

GI + NO-GI DISCOUNT

Eligible athletes registering for both Gi and No-Gi may receive a special two-division registration rate.

All prices, registration periods and deadlines will be displayed directly on Smoothcomp.

LIMITED CAPACITY

Registration may be limited to maintain efficient scheduling and professional competition standards.

Once the published athlete capacity is reached, registration may close automatically, regardless of the advertised registration deadline.

Athletes and academies are encouraged to register early.

SPECTATOR ENTRY

Adults & Teens (13+): NZ$10Children (7–12): NZ$6Children Under 6: FREE

Active recognised NZBJJF or IBJJF Black Belts and officially registered event Coaches receive complimentary admission, subject to event accreditation requirements.

The Kids Jiu-Jitsu League is committed to providing young athletes with a safe, fair, professional and development-focused competition environment.

Athletes, coaches, parents and spectators are expected to demonstrate sportsmanship and respect toward competitors, referees, officials, staff and other families.

The development of our young athletes extends beyond results and medals. Respect, discipline, resilience and sportsmanship are fundamental parts of the KJJL pathway.

OUR MISSION

The Kids Jiu-Jitsu League is an NZBJJF Youth Development Programme created to provide the next generation of New Zealand Jiu-Jitsu athletes with a structured pathway through competition.

From their first experience on the competition mats through to national-level competition, our objective is to help young athletes compete, learn and grow in an environment that supports long-term development.

The KJJL Nationals represents the national stage of that pathway.

Young athletes from across New Zealand will come together in Auckland to represent their academies, challenge themselves and compete for a Kids Jiu-Jitsu League National Championship title.
