Welcome to the New Zealand National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2026, the pinnacle event of the NZBJJF competition calendar and the ultimate stage for athletes seeking to test themselves against the very best in the country.

On 6 December 2026, competitors from every corner of New Zealand, alongside international athletes and academies, will gather in Auckland for a full day of world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition.

More than a tournament, the National Championship represents the spirit of our community. It is a celebration of dedication, perseverance, sportsmanship, and the values that unite us through Jiu-Jitsu.

Whether you are stepping onto the competition mats for the first time or pursuing a National Championship title, this event offers an unforgettable experience in a professional and inspiring environment.

WHO CAN COMPETE

The New Zealand National Championship is open to all academies throughout New Zealand and international competitors.

Divisions are available for:

• Kids

• Teens

• Juveniles

• Adults

• Masters

Competition categories are offered in both Gi and No-Gi, across all eligible belt levels.

NZBJJF MEMBERSHIP

A valid NZBJJF Membership is required for all competitors participating in NZBJJF-sanctioned events.

RULES & AGE DIVISIONS

The championship follows the official IBJJF Rulebook:

Age divisions are calculated using the official IBJJF Year-of-Birth method, based on the athlete's age as of 31 December 2026.

WEIGHT CLASSES & WEIGH-IN PROCEDURES

Weight divisions are listed as net body weight, with Gi allowances displayed in brackets where applicable.

Example:

79 kg (82.3 kg) Gi = Under 79.0 kg net body weight and under 82.3 kg wearing the full Gi at weigh-in.

Official weigh-in must be completed in the competition uniform:

• Gi divisions: Full Gi• No-Gi divisions: Rashguard and shorts

Important Notice

Athletes who exceed the weight limit of their registered division at the official weigh-in will be disqualified.

To ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the championship:

• No division changes will be permitted on event day.• No division changes will be permitted once brackets are published.• No refunds will be issued after brackets are live.

CHECKING DAY & BRACKETS

The day following the close of registrations is designated as Checking Day.

All athletes must verify:

• Name• Academy• Belt Rank• Weight Division• Age Division• Opponent Availability

Any corrections, changes, or cancellation requests must be completed through Smoothcomp during this period.

After Checking Day, registrations become final and non-refundable.

Only 700 athlete spots are available for the 2026 New Zealand National Championship.

To ensure a professional competition experience, efficient scheduling, and the highest event standards, registrations will be strictly limited.

Once capacity is reached, registration will close automatically, regardless of the advertised registration deadline.

We strongly encourage athletes and academies to secure their place early and avoid disappointment.
