Charlotte hosts a varied BJJ competition calendar, with several national organizers running regular events in the city.
Recurring competitions include the PBJJF Grand Slam Charlotte International Championship, the NEWBREED Charlotte New Year Open and Spring Championship, the NAGA Charlotte Grappling Championship and United Grappling events. Tap Cancer Out runs the Charlotte BJJ Open, the ADCC US Open has visited Charlotte, and Checkmat Charlotte has also organized events.
Gi divisions are slightly more common than No-Gi, and around a quarter of events include an absolute division. Kids divisions are offered at around one in five events. IBJJF rules and house rules are both used. Entry typically starts around $35. September is the busiest month, followed by May, March, April and January.
