GWU No-Gi Middleweight Quintet Challenge

Who: Any college student with a valid student ID. Student IDs will be checked at weigh-ins.

NOTE: Registration must be finalized and paid for prior to the event’s posted registration deadline. If payment is not finalized prior to the registration deadline, the registration is considered incomplete.

FORMAT: This event is a team-based, quintet-style tournament. All individual matches are 5 minutes, submission only, no overtime, with the Grappling Industries illegal technique list. The first match will be blind picks from each team. If a player wins by submission, then the losing player will be eliminated and the winner will stay in until they fail to submit their following opponent(s). Then the other team will get to decide their next competitor during a 1-minute rest period. For double elimination following no submissions from either player, both players will be eliminated and we will immediately proceed to the next match with blind picks from both teams. The first team to eliminate all players from the opposing team will win the match.

Male divisions consist of 5-person teams, and Female divisions consist of 3-person teams. Each division will be a double-elimination bracket format. In the case of both teams being eliminated in a draw, the ref will determine the winning team based on the player who had the most significant submission attempts, position dominance, and pace in the last match.

Most competitors will get at least 2 matches. However, for the teams that win 1st place, it is possible that some competitors may not get a match. This could be the case if one person from the winning teams defeats every opponent by themselves. Therefore, matches are not guaranteed, and it is recommended that you adjust your line-up for each team match to ensure the most matches for your team members as possible.

COMPETITOR LIST: The competitor list will be live updated and viewable in the 'Athletes' tab.

WEIGH-INS: Competitors can weigh in as soon as the event doors open on the day they are competing up until 30 minutes prior to their division start time. Competitors are NOT required to weigh in wearing uniform. Competitors who fail to weigh-in prior to the 30 minute cutoff or fail to make weight for their division will be disqualified. 

BRACKETS AND SCHEDULE: The event’s brackets and schedule will be posted 48 hours prior to the event. They can be found on the event page ‘Schedule’ tab. Event schedules are dynamic and division start times may fluctuate. It is important to monitor the schedule and brackets leading up to and on event day. Brackets may run as much as 1 hour ahead of schedule. CHANGING DIVISIONS AND CANCELLING REGISTRATION: Competitors can edit or cancel their registration up until the event’s change deadline. For more information on how to do this, see the following link: https://support.smoothcomp.com/article/89-how-to-change-weightclass-or-cancel

CAPACITY: This event has a set capacity limit of 8 teams per division and registration will close early if capacity is reached. We highly recommend that competitors register as early as possible and do not make any travel arrangements until their registration is finalized.  

REFUND POLICY: A full refund to your original payment method is available until the Normal Registration deadline. After this date, credits are issued only if a competitor has no scheduled matches. Unforeseen circumstances such as withdrawals, no-shows, empty divisions, or schedule changes may occur and do not warrant exceptions to this policy. Travel to the event is at your own discretion, and the organizer is not responsible for any related expenses. By registering, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accept this policy.
