SEBA Boxing Day (Sparring event)
Somerset, KY, United States
Somerset, KY, United States
Boxing Day is about opportunity, development, and experience. Gyms and athletes from all LBCs are invited to participate in a full day of organized sparring opportunities, providing boxers the chance to work with athletes outside their normal gyms and gain experience against different styles, skill levels, and opponents.
Whether an athlete is preparing for an upcoming competition, continuing their development, or looking for additional quality rounds, Boxing Day provides an environment where coaches can challenge their athletes while keeping safety, sportsmanship, and boxer development at the center of the event.
With multiple rings operating throughout the day, the goal is to maximize opportunities for participating athletes and give coaches the flexibility to identify appropriate sparring opportunities based on age, weight, experience, and ability.
SEBA USA Boxing Day is also an opportunity to bring the boxing community together. Coaches can build relationships with other programs, athletes can meet and learn from fellow boxers, and families can experience the camaraderie that makes amateur boxing special.
For developing athletes, the event offers exposure to new opponents and environments without making the day solely about wins and losses. For more experienced competitors, it provides valuable rounds that can help sharpen technique, conditioning, ring awareness, defense, and preparation for future sanctioned competition.
The objective is simple: create more opportunities for boxers to box.
Sons of Thunder Boxing invites gyms throughout Kentucky and surrounding states—as well as programs willing to travel from across the country—to be part of Boxing Day in Somerset. By bringing athletes from different areas together in one location, we hope to create better developmental opportunities, expand the pool of available sparring partners, and strengthen connections throughout the USA Boxing community.
Coaches are encouraged to bring athletes at multiple ages, weights, and experience levels so that appropriate matches can be developed throughout the event.
An event of this size depends on the boxing community. We welcome qualified coaches, officials, medical personnel, volunteers, and supporters who want to help make Boxing Day a successful experience for the athletes.
Volunteers will assist with areas such as athlete registration, boxer movement, staging, ring operations, event setup and teardown, crowd assistance, and other event-support functions. (if willing to volunteer to support please contact Brad Chaney at 703-232-3722 or brad.chaney1@gmail.com (Email Subject Line: SEBA Volunteer).
SEBA USA Boxing Day is not simply another date on the boxing calendar. It is an opportunity to develop athletes, connect gyms, strengthen the amateur boxing community, and give young boxers more opportunities to step through the ropes and grow in the sport.
