General Information

Bedfordshire Open - Luton — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Date: 6 Feb 2027

Venue: Venue 360, 20 Gipsy Lane, Luton, LU1 3JH

Join us at a modern, well-located leisure centre just off the M1 J10 and a 5-minute walk from Luton Airport Parkway (rail). Venue 360 has an on-site bar/restaurant serving hot food and drinks, and there’s a large retail park opposite for anything you need on the way home.

Who can compete

Open to all belts and all age groups — Kids, Juvenile, Adult, and Masters — in both Gi and No-Gi.

Officials & Safety

We run with an experienced, IBJJF-qualified refereeing team and a fully qualified first aider with BJJ competition experience.

Rules, Uniform & Format

  • Ruleset: All divisions follow the IBJJF rulebook, except the Cash Prize Absolutes.
  • Uniform: IBJJF standards apply. Any Gi or rashguard colour is accepted. Gi jacket and trousers must match in colour.
  • Match time: No match shorter than 3 minutes for the youngest kids.
  • Bronze fight: There is a bronze medal match.
  • Two fights where possible: We will do everything in our power to provide at least two matches (unless an athlete is alone in their category and no suitable merge is available). In that case, you may accept the gold medal or a voucher towards the next event.

Entries & Weigh-in

  • To enter Absolute, you must also be registered in your weight division.
  • Please ensure your weight, age, and experience level are correct when registering. Incorrect details can delay the event and may lead to disqualification.
  • Weigh-in (Gi divisions): One weigh-in only, wearing your Gi.
  • Weigh-in policy: 0 kg allowance. Failure to make weight may result in disqualification. If this happens, please speak to an organiser — we’ll do our best to help with options where possible.
  • This event welcomes UK and international competitors. All teams are welcome.

Divisions & Medals

  • Medals awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
  • Absolute — Kids: Under 39.5 kg, Above 39.5kg and Special one for Under 8 years old.
  • Absolute — Adult: Open weight for White, Blue, Purple, and combined Brown/Black.

Cash-Prize Categories (Gi & No-Gi)

  • Two cash-prize divisions: Gi and No-Gi (Adults).
  • Prize pool: £500 total shared across 1st / 2nd / 3rd as follows: 1st: £250 2nd: £150 3rd: £100
  • 1st: £250
  • 2nd: £150
  • 3rd: £100
  • Format: Gi and No-Gi Adult black belt rules apply for the prize categories.
  • Minimum entries: If we do not reach 20 competitors in a prize category, the distribution is: 1st: Full pot from Super Fight registrations 2nd: Raine rashguard 3rd: Free entry to the next competition
  • 1st: Full pot from Super Fight registrations
  • 2nd: Raine rashguard
  • 3rd: Free entry to the next competition
