I dropped in a few times whilst visiting York and the gym is a very welcoming environment with detailed, well explained teaching from the coaches and well structured classes. There was also good continuity between classes meaning you could include things you learned previously into the current class. I felt very welcome and it was a friendly environment amongst all of the other people training - couldn't ask for more really! Look forward to visiting again hopefully.
My first class today introduction class and I met very nice friendly members and coach Nick, really enjoyed it and they all very helpful and gave me an advice as i had no experience about this sport before, i recommended to everyone to join.

Was welcomed when I came for a drop in while I was in the area, the guys here are a really good standard and the facilities super clean, the sessions had a great structure with a great mixture of techniques and then positional sparring to hammer home what you learn. An absolute must visit if your in the area and one of the best gyms ive had the pleasure of visiting.
Had an awesome time dropping in at Gracie Barra York. The vibe was super welcoming from the moment I walked in, and everyone was keen to share knowledge and help each other out. I left not just feeling like I’d had a solid session but also with some new techniques to take back home. Great atmosphere all round – thanks guys!
My 7 year old daughter started at Gracie Barra York in January this year and absolutely loves the sessions. The coaches are all great and she was welcomed from the start. The coaches are patient and kind but at the same time teach the kids to be disciplined. Highly recommend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Gracie Barra York
Posted 3 years agoTom and all the other coaches hold a vast amount of knowledge which is delivered in a super easy and structured format. Community at the club is second to none. Everyones open to sharing skills and techniques with good vibes post session/roll. Couldn’t recommend enough!
Posted 3 years agoLast year, my 7yrs old son started training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in Gracie Barra club in York. He enjoys it a lot, as the classes are fun and he made a lot of friends there. As a parent, I've noticed a vast improvement in his focus, discipline and of course physical condition. He's currently on the verge of advancing to the higher belt and absolutely loves it! I'd like to share this with all the parents, who might be looking for something their kids might like. The first class is completely free, so there's nothing stopping you from trying😁 Also, seeing my son during his classes, I've decided to join in as well. This was the best decision I've made in a long time! I was 43 years old slightly overweight couch potato when I've started and I've lost just over a stone in the short few months I've been training there. Everyone in adults classes is very friendly and helpful, which makes the atmosphere really welcoming:) Now my son and I, share the activity we love and bond closer because of this. Can't recommend Gracie Barra in York enough!

I can’t praise the coaches especially professor Tom highly enough. They are so kind, patient and nurturing through their teaching skills and are always so welcoming. It’s also been nice to see kids and the parents make lovely friendships in the groups, I hope my son continues this sport for many years to come.
Posted 3 years agoMy daughter attended, and very much enjoyed Gracie Barra, which later became Renowned. We informed a member of the coaching staff (the lady who often wears pink) that she wouldn’t be coming back for the foreseeable future because of the shoulder issue. Stupidly, we didn’t cancel the direct debit. I have asked the guys for the money back, minus a month. Here’s some of the responses. Oliver is a bully. Legal proceeding to follow.
