  To anyone reading this and considering giving it a go, do it! You will not find a nicer bunch of people! I started in January and have really enjoyed both the physical and historical aspects of the training.

  I have been studying with Battalion Martial Arts York through online tution for a few months, and I enjoy it thoroughly, it's become a passion of mine in a short time, excellent work out and distinct as you can learn about a valuable period of history. The lessons really affordable rates and Chris is an amazing teacher, nothing is too much trouble, you are able to reach him at anytime with any questions, really engaging and you can tell he loves what he does. The curriculum is fun, easy and there is no expectations, anyone can learn this art. 10 out of 10.

  Very niche martial arts class that is historical focused, if you are a history and defensive techniques nerd then you will love it. Chris is a great instructor with a real passion for history. Good attention to keeping students safe.

  Chris is an excellent tutor. He makes everyone feel welcome and his classes are fun and interesting. I am interested to learn about the historical aspects of this martial art and Chris is a font of knowledge. The practice sessions are challenging but conducted with safety in mind. I recommend his classes.

  I've been training with Battalion's head instructor Chris for a while now as a part of the Exiles HEMA group. The sessions are always conducted in professional, safe and engaging manner, and Chris goes above and beyond to make them fun and memorable for all students, which in turn creates a great atmosphere in the club. Battalion's training is based on original historical sources and strives to be true to them. Whether you'd like to focus on martial arts side of the close quarters combat training, or are a bit of a history enthusiast and would like to experience the reality of how soldier's training during the WWII might looked like, then you'd struggle to find a better place in York. Can't recommend it enough:)
