Gracie Barra York - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defence is a purpose-built Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy at Arabesque House, Monks Cross in York. The academy provides structured classes for adults, women and children aged 3 and above, with morning, lunchtime and evening sessions.

Very nice environment, with a lovely community and coaches who are very welcoming and fun, especially for anyone on their first free day trail. Highly recommend giving it a go. Great fitness, strength building and most importantly good fun.

Absolutely fantastic Gracie Barra Ju Jitsu class for Asa my 9-year-old! He has really enjoyed every session and looks forward to going each week from being a bit nervous at starting . The instructors are brilliant with the children — patient, encouraging and great at making the classes fun while still teaching discipline, respect and confidence. It’s been amazing to see the improvement not only in Ju Jitsu skills, but also in confidence and self-belief. The atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and supportive, and the coaches genuinely care about helping the children develop. I would highly recommend these classes to any parent looking for a fun, positive and confidence-building activity for their child. 🥋👏

Trained at the club twice this week. Had a brilliant experience. High level chilled coaches and students. I was made to feel very welcome. Will definitely go back. If the weather was nicer in England I’d definitely make it my regular club 🙂.
The kids programme at Gracie Barra York is amazing! Being new to any form of martial arts, we were unsure what to expect when my very reserved 8-year old did his trial session - but Coach Mike made us so welcome that we felt at ease straight away. All the coaches are knowledgeable, friendly and great with kids, and the classes are fun, engaging and inclusive. Eight months later, and we've just returned from his first competition, something I never expected he'd have the confidence to do when he joined. My 5-year old has started classes too after watching his brother have so much fun! Cannot recommend these sessions enough - great for physical fitness and learning technique but also a real confidence booster for kids of all ages.
The woman's class is fab, really friendly environment and approachable, knowledgeable coaches who are super patient. The kids classes are also amazing, my 9 year old really enjoys himself. The venue is lush too, super clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend training at Gracie Barra York 💯
We travelled from Sydney, Australia and the Team at GB York were incredibly welcoming and generous. Ollie had a lot of fun, the training was delivered very well. Clear and sharp. Well done guys and we can’t wait to come back next Christmas! Big love. OSS!

Amazing facility - first class coaching - professional environment Trained here as a drop in guest, the lead coach was amazing , even for a fundamental class I walked out with a new perspective on techniques I had used for years. The mat space was clean, light filled and just felt good. The members were super supportive and welcoming, basically a home away from home. Highly recommend
I cannot recommend Gracie Barra Brazilian jujitsu, York, highly enough. The coaches, facilities and administration is all first class. My son has really enjoyed learning this new skill in a warm and welcoming environment, any concerns that he had prior to starting where removed after the first session, these classes are now genuinely the highlight of his week.
I had such a great experience visiting this gym while travelling from Belgium to York. Mike is such a great guy!! Super welcoming 🙏 Thanks again for the 6:30am class, if I’m in town again I’ll be definitely dropping by again. You guys did a good job with the gym, nice mat space 👌 Keep up the good work! 5/5 would recommend
