I go to Gracie Barra in Fredericksburg VA and wanted to drop in on a class while I was in town. Made it to a competition class, everybody was super friendly and welcoming. Tim was very knowledgeable and encouraging. Had a great time, and will definitely stop in next time I'm around.

Update: I still drive a half hour each way 4 days a week(most weeks) to come to this gym. Coach Tim creates a welcoming, safe, and inclusive, atmosphere for students of all shapes, sizes, and skill levels. I am so happy I found this place. I have made so many friends, gotten my self back in shape. I recommend this place without reservation. Almost 6 years later I am still here. The culture at the gym is amazing everyone is so welcoming, our instructors are top notch and we go hard on the mats and still take care of each other. After a long day at work I look forward to getting to class and be with my people.

Pure awesomeness! My grandson (aka Big Dog) the nickname given to him by Professor thrives on the programming offered here. Professor and his team are amazing. My grandson is big for his age and people think he is much older than he is. Professor and the coaches have totally improved my grandson's self-esteem, confidence, and pride. The mat has given him a healthy dose of a competitive edge. I am very grateful for the Gracie Barra Beaver County Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense Team.

On my jiu jitsu journey I have had the privilege to drop in at many great academies across the USA. Without a doubt GB Beaver County is at the top of the list. Professor Tim has created a very special place that can serve jiu jitsu hobbyists along with top level competitors. Anyone wishing to try jiu jitsu can feel safe, welcomed, and valued at this academy. If you are on the fence go ahead and take a class at GB Beaver County. I can guarantee you'll be glad you did.

Hands down the best Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. We have tried others and been underwelmed. Professor Tim and all of the coaches do an excellent job instructing in the large group format and then breaking it out into smaller groups and being able to work with kids in a more personalized way. Our kids have grown so much and become much more confident not only on the mats but off. The gym is clean and welcoming, and awesome people pouring into the students here!

This is an easy 5/5 stars. I started my journey in May of 2023 and could not be happier where I'm at. I started at another gym in the area and due to circumstances out of my control and overall toxic work environment/gym drama, I found my way to Gracia Barra. Professor Tim is the real deal and the team, culture, and atmosphere that he has built is top notch. If you're looking for a clean gym, healthy atmosphere, drama free work place, awesome crowd, look no further. I have been to 7 or 8 different gyms in my travels during my journey and I'm super happy I've found home base.

Felt like part of the GB family the moment we stepped foot in the gym. Our sons have been a part of this academy since 2020 and they love not only the sport but also the coaches and the other students - and so do we! Family friendly, CLEAN, and organized.

Professor Tim, I wanted to thank you for your hospitality and commend you on the environment you created! I felt the positivity right off the bat. The gym is clean and spacious and I felt like I was home as soon a I walked in! I told anyone who would listen at work about your graciousness and I hope they stop in. See you soon!

I travel around the country for work, and I’m always looking for great places to train. Professor Tim and his team were extremely welcoming to me as an out-of-towner, and they took good care of me while I was there. The techniques were well taught, and the students were well coached. I’ll be back when I’m in the area again.

A great structured curriculum. A very welcoming team that slowly becomes like family. Not only will jiu-jitsu give you the skills to defend yourself, but the confidence and leadership skills that will translate over to your personal life. Professor Tim is a dedicated black belt, who not only wants to see your jiu-jitsu skills grow, but also is invested in each students personal growth. This has been the best gym environment I have ever been in!!

Coach Tim follows the GB curriculum - teaching to the age and development and ability of each student. My children have developed legitimate self defense skills and blossomed as young athletes. They love being on the team and look forward to going to class.

This school is incredible. Truly. We have been so impressed with the teaching and coaching, the amount of content in each class, and the positive, welcoming environment! Everything is organized and efficient, the communication is fantastic, and the location is spotless. Our daughter was really, really struggling these last few months with her school closing again. She was withdrawn, lacking motivation, and often angry. Not anymore. We can see the spark in her eyes again, she shows gratitude again, she's kind and positive again, and she's engaged in something with purpose again. She has played soccer for several seasons and loves it, but that love is no comparison to how she feels about Jiu Jitsu. She talks about Jiu Jitsu every day, and counts down the hours until she can get on the mats. This feels so special for her, a true niche and something that will build her character while keeping her physically strong. We were honestly just hoping to find an outlet for a sad child, but we found something that is fulfilling for her! Thank you SO much to the coaches for sharing their passion and gifts. It is a privilege to watch them interact with their students and lift them up with such passion. We feel blessed to be apart of the Gracie Barra Beaver County family.

This place has been life changing for me. Everyday I can't make it in to train I miss it. Coach is awesome and so are all the people I train with. I can't wait until my son is old enough and I can get him into this. They even have a womens only class on Saturdays which is amazing too.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Our son was being bullied at school and in the neighborhood. We wanted him to try Gracie Barra out to see if he liked it. He didn’t just like it, he fell in love with it. He wants to go everyday now. The confidence he has built in such a short time is because of Coach Tim and the Gracie Team. If you hate wiping tears from your child’s eyes, then we believe Gracie Barra Beaver County is the answer. Coach Tim is hands down the best ! Bring your child in for one class and try it out. Gracie Barra will make them Bullyproof !

I feel welcomed here. I joined just a few months ago because I wanted to learn self-defence. The first class is free, which is nice to test the waters. When I went for the free class, my heart was beating out of my chest. I was scared, and kept asking myself what in the world I was doing there when I'm almost 50 years old. I almost left but chose to face my fear and stayed. As soon as class started, coach Tim introduced me to the class, and I felt welcomed immediately. The students there helped with every move we learned. They included me in all their "reindeer games". I never had to stand on the side (unless I would have wanted to). I went and also tried a competitor's jiu jitsu class but they didn't make me feel welcomed. They did not loan me a gi, and I had to mostly just sit and watch them which all made me really stand out. Choosing Gracie Barra was very easy at that point! There are a few girls that go there too. The nice thing about jiu jitsu is that you don't have to be super flexible nor in shape to be able to do the moves. I am so happy I faced my fear that first day and joined. I LOVE this class. I've never liked any sports, never worked out, but I found my sport and my place at Gracie Barra. Coach Tim and coach George are fantastic. They are very patient and both are able to explain the moves clearly. One last thing: when I traveled to Quebec and Orlando, I was able to go to a Gracie Barra school there for free (1 free class per week). They all welcomed me. When they say that GB is a big family, it really is. If you are hesitating to join, no need to wonder anymore. You will feel at home here.

What a great place! Everyone we have encountered are friendly and welcoming. Coach Tim and all the other coaches encourage respect for self and others and emphasize that everyone is part of the 'family'. It is fitness and fun wrapped together and a place where no one is judged on their ability but encouraged and supported to be the best they can. For fitness and fun, no matter what age, it is the place to be.

I’ve been training here for a little over a month now. Now that I’ve started I don’t know what I’d do without it. Signing up should come with a warning about it being addictive! The coach and team are amazing! Everyone has there own set of skills and everyone’s journey is different but we are all a family and help each other grown and overcome! It’s already made me stronger and more confident my anxiety and ptsd is becoming less and less noticeable and bothersome to me! GB!
