Stout is an outstanding place to train striking and jiu-jitsu. Stout has everything I was looking for in a martial arts school: A heavy emphasis on real-world self-defense skills in an environment that also fosters respect and accountability. I'm impressed by the extremely knowledgeable instructors, the very welcoming atmosphere, and the school's ability to accommodate all skill levels from total novices (e.g. Me, a middle-aged dad) to professional athletes and everyone in between. The instructors do a phenomenal job ensuring everyone can get something out of every class.
Posted 4 months agoI am a few weeks in training at Stout. I did not know anyone at stout the day I joined. It has been my experience that the atmosphere is extremely welcoming and easy to jump into. The instruction is highly detailed and of a level/quality that surprised me. The high level/quality of instruction has been most important not only to learn skills/techniques correctly but also to have the confidence to repeatedly try them in live training. Would recommend

Posted 4 months agoI wanted to wait to see if I could stick it out for a year before I posted a review for this gym. We'll, it's been a year, and I can honestly say there is no other place I would rather be. I started bjj late in life at 49, turning 50. First, every instructor there has a heart of a teacher. Their knowledge is beyond impressive. They will take the time to work with you and explain why and how on the techniques. The students in class are also awesome. No egos. If you're new, the students who have been there for a while will let you "work." I remember when I first got there, everyone talked about the "culture" of the gym. They were correct. The culture, imo is second to none. Stout seems to me like not only a team but a family. If you're older, like me or younger, just starting out, you would do yourself a disservice by not coming to Stout.
