Newcastle BJJ Open 2026

The Newcastle BJJ open invites you to join us on Saturday the 31st of October for our eleventh event - This is being held at:

Benfield Sports Centre

Benfield Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 4NU, United Kingdom

The venue is 3 miles from the city centre, has on-site parking and is accessible from nearby Palmersville metro station and the A1058 ‘coast road’.

General information:

The times and schedules will be updated in real time and displayed on a screen and accessible to the general public on smart devices through the SmoothComp platform.

We will have a fully qualified first-aider experienced in providing assistance to athletes and a team of qualified referees.

Divisions:

Masters division (30+) - will be 5 minute rounds using IBJJF rules

Juvenile divisions will be 5 minutes rounds using IBJJF Rules

Adult - White/blue/Purple/Brown use standard IBJJF times/rules

*** Absolute - White/blue/Purple/Brown SUB ONLY rules. belt legal submissions, if there is no finish bouts are scored on the athlete who has the most legitimate submission attempts. ***

A 'round robin' format will be used for all categories with 3/4/5 participants, this is to ensure that all competitors will have a minimum of 2 fights.

Medals:

Bespoke medals will be awarded to top 3 competitors in each division.

Entry requirements:

During your application, please be sure to enter the correct weight, age and experience level. If incorrect details are entered this can cause us unnecessary delays on the day if we need to correct them. You have until 24th of October to change you weight/belt.

Changing divisions/amendments:

Any amendments to your original application, including changes to your registered division need to be either updated on your Smoothcomp registration or emailed to us by Saturday 24th of October. Brackets and divisions will be set up by Wednesday 28th October

Refund:

Refunds are only possible until 18/10/26 after that medals will be ordered and no refund will be possible. 

Merging divisions:

We reserve the right to merge divisions after the registration deadline in the unlikely event that you are the only competitor in your registered division group.

Weighing in:

Weighing in takes place on the day of the competition starting from 9am, Doors open 8.am.

The weigh-in is done whilst wearing your Gi if appropriate.

Uniform:

White, Royal blue or black gi's to be worn - no mixed i.e. white pants and blue jacket.

Please bring flip flops or similar footwear for walking around the hall and/or between the warm up mats and competition area. Anyone seen going barefoot to the toilets will be disqualified.
