Mikey is very knowledgeable and cultivates a great atmosphere for learning jiu-jitsu. He is very observant of his students and will help you develop any technique he sees you need help with, even if it wasn't in the lesson for that day. The drills at UGC are very dynamic, allowing both partners to train offense and defense simultaneously, instead of one parter simply acting as a dummy. Compared to other types of jiu-jitsu drills this is more fun, more efficient, and a better workout.

Posted 1 year agoI been to multiple gyms over the past 6-7 years . The 10% discount for first responders and welcoming atmosphere is amazing . I see some of the reviews complaining about the new system but I’m sure the owners had to adjust to their students and schedules . The instructor was a legit black belt that starts standing up as jiujitsu should be. Also answers questions on technique and shows you how to do certain things my first experience was great I definitely will attend again
Posted 1 year agoGreat place to train. It’s a good workout
I’ve been attending upstate grappling club since it just about opened. The instructors have all been extremely knowledgeable and push the students to work hard while offering a friendly environment to train in. Although it is a new school in the area it’s filled with a large amount of experience from the instructors, and seeing the success the school is having in competitions is a testament to that instruction along with the students hard work. Highly recommend
“I would like to thank Upstate Granppling Club for the spacious and pleasant space and for the professionals who take care of each student. My son loves doing Jiu-Jitsu and, in less than a month, he has already developed a lot of discipline. Thank you very much!”
Great coaching and environment. Shoutout Andrew and Eric.
Awesome experience! Great people!! You feel welcomed and not judged! Good place to go if you wanna learn and get into shape!! And the price for membership is worth it!!!
Instructors are very knowledgeable with tons of experience. The gym has state of the art equipment and the staff keeps it extremely clean.
One of the most welcoming and nicest gyms I’ve ever been too. Good vibes, good rounds, and great coaching. If you’re in the area I recommend you stop in.
Clean, large mat space with top of the line equipment and coaching. Great local spot to train and a great crowd to run with
Andrew runs a tight shop - great rolls something for everyone
The best place in the capital region to train at hands down.
The Upstate Grappling Club is hands down one of the best places to train Jiu-Jitsu. Andrew is an incredible instructor who not only has deep knowledge of the art but also a passion for teaching it in a way that makes it accessible to all levels. The atmosphere here is welcoming, supportive, and challenging. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your technique, this is the place to be. The community is like a family, and Andrew's dedication to fostering growth, both on and off the mats, is clear from day one. Highly recommend!
Andrew is our son’s instructor. His experience with teaching kids the fundamentals of BJJ is apparent. Our son loves going to UGC!
23 year old competitive purple belt- I have been training for a long time at different places and Ugc is one of the biggest high level gyms in the area. The caliber of wrestling and grit in there bjj is unmatched. They are still new and I can see future champs in there putting in some serious work. Great vibes if u can handle it
We could not be happier with the experience we’ve had at UGC. I started my son in the kids class and he loves going. His coach gives the kids individual attention while in a group and they get positive praise throughout the class along with constructive feedback to help them in the moment. The gym is so clean and you can see the owner Andrew takes pride in his gym. Highly recommend!
Great facility. Experienced instructors. Upstate Grappling is a premier gym in the capital region . The culture in the gym is top notch for beginners and experienced martial artists .
Best in the area. Friendly and welcoming aura if you want to become better in every area of your life come try out a class.
Best gym in the 518. Nearby and the most progress I’ve made in Jiu jitsu out of 3 separate gyms.
Great people and a high level trainer. Overall, a great gym for experienced or new people looking to train.
Good gym, good community, everyone’s hard working and nice. If you’re looking for a gym to train at this is the one.
Came across the gym when in the area. It was welcoming to all skill levels. The head guy there Andrew was very knowledgeable and interactive with group.
Very clean and impressive gym space. The teaching here is very in depth and effective. Great choice to learn Jiu Jitsu in the Clifton Park area
I have been training at this gym for a little while. I had payed for 1000 of my hard earned money then a few days later due to their internal conflict the changed leadership in the gym. I reached out for my refund since and the owner said I just would have to provide a receipt. I provided the information requested and I have been ghosted ever since. I see posts about them reopening back up and reached back out about refund and go no response. I knew the new owners not extremely well but though they were decent people and didn’t think that this would happen to me. They have not reached out to resolve my request after expressing that they would in the beginning. It such a shame that all this happened being the place before this changed had such a good group of guys who came to train there and was only going to get better. If you value your time money and a little bit of honesty I advise to avoid this gym.
