Now that I've been here for almost a year now, I think I can give an experienced review; this place is phenomenal. Everyone from the instructors to the fellow practitioners are welcoming and supportive. Having never practiced a martial art before, I was leery about making the first step initially, as I didn't know what to expect. As it turns out, I was apprehensive for nothing. I still have so much to learn as I'm just getting started, but even now at this relatively early stage my self confidence has grown so much. And I'm not talking about on the mat, I'm talking about off the mat. It's funny how self confidence works like that. If you're on the fence, take that first step. You won't regret it.

This is an awesome academy with some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met. Extremely supportive. The instruction at this academy is amazing and Eddie has a gift for explaining techniques and concepts. You feel welcome and supported and as a beginner that is huge. EFJJA has quite literally changed my life. The jiu jitsu is one thing, but the community at this gym is another level. Everyone is friendly and more than willing to help you level up- in more ways than just grappling. I am relatively new here - 8 months, but so far I am very pleased with this school. You can tell that Eddie really cares about his students and really strives to get the most out of everyone. The quality of instruction is unparalleled, no matter which of the black belts are teaching. I am continually learning and my progression is steady. Like i said- Eddie has the ability to get the best out of everyone… not an easy task. My 7 year old also attends and for anyone who has kids understands that teaching anything to children is super difficult. Eddie has an innate ability to relate to the kids and my son loves coming. For this I am forever grateful. EFJJA provides seminars for free to students: seminars provided by some really big names too (Gracie, machado, etc). What more can you ask for? This is a really nice bonus. Really happy I joined, just wish I had done this earlier. I am over 40 but, never too late I guess. If you are searching for a school, look no further. I inquired about signing my daughter up for classes and within 24 hours I had someone reaching out to me answering all of my questions. They let her come to one free class to make sure it was something she wanted to do. After that initial class, she loved it and we immediately signed her up. The instructors were patient and not only taught holds and moves during class but also important life lessons, such as respect, self confidence, and kindness to those around them. Eddie and his team are AMAZING!! My Grayson is so lucky to learn from Eddie and loves being a part of the group. We homeschool, so this is a terrific way to fulfill some of the Phys-Ed requirements and really provides an outlet for him for his tactile needs. Eddie, specifically, is the BEST at working with kids and engaging them and it's so impressive how he can work with a group of 20 kids by himself and maintain order and structure necessary to learn. Although with large groups, he often has other instructors to help, and each and every one of them are just great people. I, personally, enjoy going there to socialize with other parents while my child attends class, and I'm not going to lie, I'm always taking mental notes on self-defense moves too. Even I learn a lot and I'm not on the mat! I couldn't speak highly enough of this place. So grateful for all of you <3 Grayson has come a long way from his white belt days, where he thought a "triple leg takedown" was a thing. Not on this planet, buddy..... haha. He's made SO MUCH progress. Thank you Eddie and team for ROCKING. He has, indeed, "Thrived in Chaos" because of the excellent people of this facility, patrons included. Much love!

We have been attending the Academy for about a year and a half. Every coach (professor) has been fantastic and each have a unique style and way to help you understand. We drive 30 minutes (past another Jiu Jitsu academy) to come to Eddie's. Coach Kirby is super friendly, personable, and could help relieve anyone's anxiety who is nervous about starting to train. I started with this school a while back. Had to take time off but couldn’t stop thinking about the mats. Jiu Jitsu is not just a form of martial arts but a way of life! Our professors are high level Jiu Jitsu practitioners with a true lineage from the originals of the art. Constantly being able to train and learn from creators and innovators of Jiu Jitsu is truly a blessing. This school is a family of intellectuals who are out to better themselves and others in every aspect of life. It has changed my life so much that I now have the honor to share this with my daughter! The kids classes are absolutely amazing as well. The way the professors are able to connect and keep the children’s attention is astonishing, to say the least. There are not a lot of activities that you can do side by side with your child but this surely is one of them. Builds confidence, strength and camaraderie while keeping you on the right path for a good life. Anyone can learn and change their life with Jiu Jitsu. I would recommend this academy to anyone looking for a self defense that can be transferred to real life scenarios. Challenging, awarding and overall efficient way to protect ones self. I’ve only been attending classes at EFJJA for about 3 weeks now, and I can already say with extreme confidence that I won’t be going anywhere else. From day 1, Professor Fyvie and his staff have been nothing short of superb, completely exceeding my expectations. Before going to this academy, I went to a trial class at another local academy and didn’t have a great experience. Nobody took the time to introduce themselves or correct me when I was doing something wrong (which is basically everything at this point). As soon as I stepped into EFJJA, I was greeted with enthusiasm. All the instructors and students took the time to help me learn not only how the structure of the classes worked, but also took me aside one on one to demonstrate warm up drills and techniques and answered every question I had. I met Eddie almost three years ago when I enrolled my then five year old son. Since then, I enrolled my other son, and then myself and my third son will be starting shortly. My kids and I have been going here and learning from Eddie and his team of instructors for a year and a half. We continue to learn and grow from our experiences. My kids always want to go and always enjoy the classes. Eddie is like no other instructor of any kind, he is far superior to any other kid oriented professional I have ever seen, he connects with all the kids and they all respect him. This isn't about learning to beat people up, or learning to be an MMA fighter, it is learning to be a better human being by understanding the mentality of others. Brazilian Jiu-Jistu isnt just about the physical aspects of each individual either, it is far more mental than you can imagine. If there ever was a part of you that wants to learn a martial art or if your kids want to join and be supported and instructed by one of the best in the field, this is the place to come!!! I cannot give it a high enough rating, as it far surpassed anything I could have expected to get. It all started when my kids said, "dad we want to learn karate or something" Come down and meet everyone, it is like a big family!

I have only a small amount of experience with this gym from a class back in 2014... but that limited experience was extremely positive, and were distance not a factor, it would have encouraged me to continue training there instead of finding something else more local. The instructors are extremely friendly and encouraging, and the schedule is pretty accommodating for most people. I enjoyed that there was open mat time after class, which is a very major part of learning bjj, and I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in the door. The class I attended was gi. I can't comment on whether no-gi is offered. The listed cost is about the same you'll encounter at any other gym, so there should be no surprises there. As with most gyms, EFJJ offers a free class to try them out and get a feel for the people and environment. Looking at their website, I guess they're also doing a 2-week-free promotion right now, which is fairly generous. I would encourage anyone getting into bjj for the first time to try a couple gyms and pick one that suits your learning style. EFJJ would be up there on my list of places to try out.

UPDATE: 6/9/25 Still no reply from the business owner. Luckily I paid with a credit card and not Venmo so my credit card is going after this business owner. To anyone that is in the same situation with this individual just print any communication you have because your credit card will ask for it. I’m surprised to see all of the 5 star reviews after my dealings over the last 4 weeks with this gym owner. Eddie Fyvie was supposed to host a GSP seminar on 5/4 but cancelled the event at the end of April due to not having enough attendees. The cost was $150 per person which we all had to pay in advance. The last week of April we were told refunds were being distributed and would be done by the beginning of the following week. Once that didn’t happen, I reached back out to inquire and was again told that it would be refunded the following week. Now we are at the end of May and the gym owner isn’t responding back anymore. I understand that refunds can take a little time but we are about a month out now and aren’t hearing anything from him. I’d be weary if I actually trained at this gym and he had access to my credit or debit card for monthly billing seeing that he won’t even process this refund. Hopefully he does the right thing and I will update this review. If not then I guess it’ll be small claims court and I still will update this review. With all of the competition of BJJ schools in the area you would think no one would want bad publicity. Just pay your debts and refund all of us.
