New York's tournaments are split between New York City and upstate. Brooklyn and Buffalo host the most events, followed by Saratoga Springs, Queens, West Hempstead, Syracuse, Burnt Hills, Flushing and Long Island.
Grappling Industries is the most active organizer, with recurring events in Brooklyn, Buffalo, Syracuse and Saratoga Springs. Other regular competitions include the Tap Cancer Out Long Island BJJ Open, Sunshine and Submissions, Warrior Grappling's Battle of Saratoga, NAGA events and the Pride BJJ Championship.
Gi and No-Gi are offered about equally, and just over a third of events run kids divisions. Round-robin brackets are common. Adult entry usually costs around $30–$100. October is the busiest month, followed by November, May and February.
