I brought my daughter to the Martial Arts Gracie Academy in Rosemount and it was an amazing experience. We took two separate classes and both of our instructors were wonderful. I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in taking a self-defense class to check this place out.
Posted 11 months agoWe LOVE Rosemount Martial Arts Academy!! Mr. J is an amazing instructor, mentor & friend. My son just turned 7 & has been going since he was 4.5 years old. We’ve done classes and also personal lessons w/ Mr. J for awhile now. My son has incorporated what he’s learned in karate into real life situations at school and in other life scenarios/situations. I highly recommend Rosemary Martial Arts Academy.
Posted 11 months agoWe have been absolutely thrilled with Rosemount Martial Arts Academy!!! Mr. J is phenomenal. He is an exceptional male role model for our 8 year old son. He commands authority and respect while also demonstrating passion and playful energy in all he does. Each class begins with a fun warm up and then stretching while discussing values and attributes/attitudes of a black belt. Class moves in to specific forms and techniques and then ends with calling attention to individual character development at home and in the community and fun group games of dodge ball. We looked into several taekwondo/karate options in our area and SO happy we decided on Rosemount Martial Arts. They also have super fun game days ever couple of months where they play fun games like night at the museum, gaga ball, dodge ball, etc. Good old fashion fun. You can tell that Mr. J and all the other leaders really enjoy what they do. I can't say enough good things about our time here! I am confident if you come and check it out you will not be disappointed.
Posted 11 months agoMr. Johnson is amazing with the kids! We went in for the trial and my son absolutely loved both Taekwondo and Gracie! We are letting him do both for the time being (or long run). I just love how excited he is to go to class. The other kids and instructors are very nice as well. No one is judgy and everyone is so patient.
Posted 1 year agoIf you’re questioning taking advantage of the free class/try it out specials for kids when they come along here’s the review to tell you to give it a go! My two sons just tried the class out and by the end they were begging to be signed up! They had a great time and the instructors make it fun as well as teach the kids. My oldest was talking about how he wants to try and practice and already is setting goals on getting new belts. He usually feels like he’s not doing well in activities and there was none of that talk with this! My youngest who has never shown an interest in fitness related activities, was giggling the whole time and had found confidence in what he was doing and said he wanted to keep going to classes! The environment was so positive and all the kids there looked like they were having a great time. The instructors really know how to connect and talk with the kids and get them excited about training. Give it a shot, this seems like a great place!
Posted 1 year agoI've been attending Rosemount ATA for 5 years. I started out with Taekwondo, enjoyed it and added Gracie Jiu-jitsu. I really appreciate the instruction structure and style. The head instructor is very patient and understanding with students of all ages and abilities - and he nurtures and develops this same approach with his staff too. I like the focus on self-defence and conflict de-escalation. My wife has also been attending classes for 4 years and loves Jiu-jitsu and Women's Empowered classes (& earned her Pink belt and Blue belt). I checked 2 other studios before I started here and they're good too. But Rosemount ATA was the one for me, my family and my learning/growth goals.
The environment here is about more than learning TKD. The instructors emphasize attributes that kids and adults can apply across so many scenarios. Mr. Johnson demonstrates respect and care for each student that comes through his doors. Would recommend to anyone who wants well rounded martial arts training.
The instructors are good people are friendly. I learn a lot within a short amount of time.
I’ve been a jiu jitsu student here for three years. I live an hour away and work long overnight shifts as a nurse. Although life can be busy, there is a reason why I keep coming back here. This place is more than a learning environment. This is a place of peace for me and the instructors are like family. I’ve gained so much confidence since joining that I was excited for my daughter to join as well. She does Bullyproof and I do Combatives. The hours are great. The pace of the classes is perfect. The value of what we learn is priceless. I look forward to training every week!!!
My son recently started with RMA and is still in his trial phase but already loves RMA’s approach to taekwondo and self-defense training. He’s learning very practical skills, and he’s leaving class happy, confident and motivated. He’s an ATA blue belt from six years of prior training elsewhere. And we are very happy we made the move to RMA. We look forward to many years of growth and self-confidence, thanks to the team at RMA.
My son has been going here for almost a year now and we are so happy with everything he has learned so far. The teachers are all amazing and so dedicated to what they are doing and teaching. They make sure every child in the class is focused and ready to be engaged and learning with just as much passion as them! We couldn’t have picked a better place for our son to learn so many new skills. He’s learned more than karate. He’s learned to be in front of a big group of people. He’s learned to speak up. He’s learned to not be shy and work with new kids every week. I love this it’s been so amazing for my son. He is almost 8. I’m so thankful. Thank you guys ☺️
My son has been going here for years. Mr. J is great. He takes the time to include all students in each lesson and he is very patient with each students learning level. He also expects the students to be challenged and learn in each class. 5 out of 5 stars; I’d recommend this place to anyone!
I've been taking classes for about 2 months now; I love the experience they have offered so far. Learning a new skill and getting in shape at the same time has been great. I would recommend ATA; they have a great staff and classmates.
This is a special place. Instructors are very skilled practitioners as well as TEACHERS who can actually communicate rather than just perform. They also have a light, warmhearted, and even playful attitude or atmosphere in the building that helps students work WITH eachother to learn rather than compete
My 2 kids have been attending classes here for a couple of years and we still enjoy it so much! It’s great seeing the kids grow in confidence and character. Mr. J is awesome with kids and all of the leadership instructors are great! We’re so thankful for this school!
This is where you want to take your kids to learn martial arts. They learn so much more than self defense moves and team work. My son really likes all of his teachers and says each class is better than the one before.
This was an amazing experience for my son ! He can't wait to to go back on Monday!
Our 2 daughters had joined way back in 2016. 7 years later, younger one is a junior instructor assisting Mr J. We can't thank him enough for the focus & discipline he has brought into their lives..
This has been a safe, comfortable, welcoming and exciting environment for my son. He is not a “team sports” kid, so we decided to try MMA. He is thriving here. He has made friends, learned new skills. Loves earning higher belts. He is learning how to set and make goals then achieve them!!! He has gained so much self confidence. The staff are encouraging, energetic and they care. Mr. J is the absolute best with the kids. He sets boundaries, expectations and hold the kids accountable!!!!! Plus he is relatable!!! 100% recommend!!!
I never imagined myself getting into martial arts, but I am so happy I decided to try it! Mr. J is an amazing teacher; he's high energy and so kind. Really everyone I've met in class has been very welcoming and helpful. I love the sense of comradery; we're all there to support one another and have a fun time. I take Taekwondo and Jiu-Jitsu, and I would highly recommend both. I feel like I'm gaining confidence in my ability to protect myself, which I love. They offer classes from "Tiny Tigers" all the way up to adult, so there is something for everyone!
Love my jiu-jitsu combatives class. I have learned so much in just a short time. It is particularly important to me given the current state of downtown St. Paul and the location of my parking ramp near the Green Line Station on 5th Street. Great instructors, great friends. I would highly recommend Rosemount Martial Arts.
Great School and Instructors!! My son started when covid was on peak and Mr. Johnson did every effort to keep kids safe. Mr. J is amazing with kids and his training is encompasses both physical and mental training to be a leader, defender and care for others. Will definitely recommend to others.
My son loves Rosemount ATA! He started last October, earned his way up to Camo belt and is now preparing to test for green belt. Sparring is by far his favorite part of class. Mr. J is both patient and firm and the kids love him. Overall great experience.
Great instructor, clean, good mats. Water bottle filler, bathrooms, and changing rooms on site. Will definitely be coming back for lessons!
Amazing instructors who adapt to their audience! Great with kids and raising confidence and self-esteem. Great with adults, especially with the jiu jitsu. Walter is also a great speaker and the kids love him!
Walter and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and focus on the individual over the group. They make sure that each student is growing towards their own personal goals and betterment. Their range of classes tailored towards specific groups is unmatched in the area. I can not recommend Walter and Rosemount ATA enough!
I cannot say enough for Walter and his staff. There is not another soul like Walter , he truly cares , he wants to help, protect and provide not only a better sense or awareness , but a way to protect yourself from anyone and anything. His training is for everyone really from the age of 3 and up. I encourage you to stop in , give it a try. I promise you will fill like a new person. Especially great for young kids - the self confidence it will give your kids is phenomenal!
I can not say enough great things about Rosemount ATA. Walter is brilliant with kids, an extremely competent teacher, and his passion for martial arts is unwavering. If you are considering martial arts or are looking into it for your kids, this is the place to be!
My daughter has been going for a year and loves it. She has gone up in ranking and continues to learn new skills. Another plus is that the staff is great and is very caring.
This is a great school. My son has been going for two years. He loves it. The instructors are great. It is a positive environment, that not only teaches martial arts/ self defense but also how to deal with bullies. This school also spends time discussing and teaching concepts of being a good human being, such as; respect of yourself and others, determination, discipline, positive attitudes, being a leader, accountability and etc. as well as, the concept of working towards a goal and achieving it. All the traits you want for your child.
The instructors are wonderful! They're great with kids and adults. I would highly recommend Rosemount ATA!
Well run, great instructors. They don't give away belts you actually have to earn them. Many other studios give them away simply for showing up and paying for lessons. Students have to come and learn techniques and forms then test for belt advancement. My children love going each week to learn. One of my children has had issues with being bullied. The techniques he has learned at Rosemount ATA has given him the confidence to stand up for himself and others. He has even had to use the techniques on a bully to get himself out if harm.
Our children have been attending Rosemount ATA for almost two years. They continue to learn new skills and be challenged. The teachers are incredible in that they are knowledgeable, patient, and can teach. They also promote different life- values through brief discussions prior to class each session. Sunil Ramlall
Love the atmosphere of respect, kindness and dedication at the Rosemount ATA. My daughter loves it there. Instructors are amazing- patient, great with kids, knowledgeable.
Unorganized lessons with incorrect information
This is the lowest level of jiu jitsu. Please, unless you've never competed or played in any sport before, don't waste your money. This isn't real jiu jitsu. They don't have a qualified coach (black belt who can actually promote a belt). I hate writing bad reviews but I need to be a warning. No one here actually competes in real tourniments because they know the higher belts in their gym would be easily won over by far lower belts from any other gym! Go to any accredited gym. They have multiple competitors to prove they are on par with actual jiu jitsu athletes. Not saying you have to compete, but in this gym you submit A VIDEO ONLINE for belt promotions, because the head coach isn't qualified. A clear red flag that this is a fraudulant business that just wants your money. Most gyms have an actually accredited black belt to promote you btw........ do your own research. I've been training jiu jitsu for over a decade and just moved here. Just trying to look out for people.
Very low level training. In real gyms, you need a live action test under a credentialed black belt for belt promotions in jiu jitsu. Here you can submit a video to a corporate website. No one here competes at their belt level, which is a huge red flag for any actual martial arts gym. Sure, training a certain move is important, but if you can't actually execute it in a live action scenario, anyone stronger, bigger, or with real life experience will make your training useless. For those wanting to dip their toes into self denfense/fighting, go for it. For those who want to take it a little bit past that, find a legitimate gym with coaches who have competed and excelled in local and national events.
Just because they have their students recite a mantra about integrity and self-control, does not mean they practice it in their business. We should have visited several dojos before signing the contract: we will never get the two years or $5000 back.
