    Pythagoras Jiu-Jitsu is a great place to train and learn the gentle art of Jiu-Jitsu. It is not the biggest gym in SWFL but Spencer has incredible knowledge of the sport and offers a unique perspective on leg attacks/defense that a lot of other gyms don't emphasize often. The team is very friendly and welcoming and as it's a smaller gym, you'll get more one on one instruction from one of the best blackbelts in the area. I am proud to be a member of Pythagoras Jiu-Jitsu. Our motto is "We Over Me". Come check us out!

    If you are anywhere near Punta Gorda and would like to begin jiu jitsu or continue your jiu jitsu journey, Pythagoras Jiu Jitsu is the place for you! The owner Spencer Mumme is a long time veteran of martial arts and displays beautiful jiu jitsu when competing at the highest levels as well as provides an awesome jiu jitsu curriculum. His students are highly skilled and very welcoming. Highly recommend!

    Coach Spencer is an enthusiastic, supportive, and comprehensive jiu jitsu instructor hands down. Everyone at Pythagoras is tight knit and show the "we over me" mentality as Spencer encourages, helping people learn and being especially respectful towards women that are looking for self defense techniques. I have had reservations joining a martial arts class as a woman, but this experience has changed my perspective entirely: •Step-by-step instructions with language that makes the process understandable. Spencer will often ask if anyone needs to see a move more than once or work one-on-one as he circulates the room. •Practical and effective techniques for self defense or if you are just looking to skill build for competition. The people that train here know which moves work and which ones are just flashy. •Respectful understanding of learners and people averse to martial arts or passive in nature. You could ask most anyone in the gym to go at the pace of an easier "flow roll" or at "30%" and they will be more than happy to oblige and match your energy. •Reasonable pricing with extra open mat practice on Saturdays and some holiday open mat gatherings for those looking for community. •Locally promoted businesses among team members and team colors for those looking to compete. •Children's classes and flexible tailored scheduling for working adults with coaches upon request. It's been a great learning opportunity and I hope to see more women train under the Pythagoras umbrella!

    My kids have been training at Pythagoras for a year and a half. I can’t say enough good things about this gym and professor Mumme. He encourages kids to try a free class to see if Jiujitsu is right for them. My son was interested in martial arts and my daughters asked to attend the free class just for fun. They all left class begging to join.
