Phantom Jiu Jitsu is hands down the best place to train! The environment is super fun, welcoming, and motivating, making each class an enjoyable experience. Man I don’t know where to begin. I received my black belt last year from GM Relson Gracie. I didn’t want my grappling training to become stagnant, so I looked around trying to find an academy that would take my training to the next level. I looked and looked, but couldn’t really find anything that worked for me. One day a colleague of mine informed me that a Renzo Gracie Black belt and former DDS member had just recently opened up an academy in Herndon. After the first class I was sold. If you’re looking for a Jiu-Jitsu instructor that is not only proven as a competitor but also a phenomenal instructor, come see Frank at Phantom JJ. 🙏

As a jiujitsu practitioner of several years, with my home gym having been with several top teams, and in having visited my fair share of facilities, Phantom Jiu-Jitsu provides a rare balance in it being a place where high level technique meets a warm and welcoming environment. Frank has accomplished an incredible, and what often seems like impossible feat; in cultivating a space where the competitive athlete and hobbyist can coexist. The culture of the gym allows for you to train with highly skilled and competent training partners who not only assist in strengthening your technique, but also keep you safe on the mats. The instruction is not only easily digestible but also deeply insightful and has the power to help refine even the smallest detail that can give your game an entirely new direction. As a female grappler, it’s important for me to note that even with the high level instruction, there was no sense of intimidation or unease. The camaraderie between the students is palpable and inviting to visitors and new enrollments. The space is maintained with a level of mutual respect that’s genuinely impressive. If you’re looking for world-class instruction and an environment conducive to not only the well-being of everyone who enters but to the art of jiujitsu, look no further.

Frank Rosenthal has helped my Jiu Jitsu journey since I was a blue belt(2018) and visiting his gym last year, I was able to see the help that he's given me with other students. A fantastic instructor and a great gym culture. I recommend for both the competitor and the person who's simply interested in learning how to defend themselves/lover of martial arts.

Frank welcomed me into Phantom like he had known me forever. He is articulate in his instruction and breaks the techniques down so any level of practitioner can understand. The tempo and flow of class is awesome and I always walk out of class learning something new and honing my skills.

I have been at Phantom since the doors opened and it has been a great place to grow as a JJ practitioner. Frank is the real deal and I am very grateful that he focuses on teaching the fundamentals by repetition and understanding “invisible” Jiu Jitsu. The facilities are well located, always clean and he even has a couple of showers which allow me to get practice in between business meetings.

I started here about 3 1/2 months ago after moving up to Virginia from South Florida. I tried about 5-6 gyms in the area , called Phantom to get a vibe check and immediately all green flags. I came in for training that night and I was convinced this was the right place to train. Before moving out to the Arlington area I was staying in Culpeper for a few weeks and still making the 1 1/2 hour drive out just to get a day pass because the training is that next level. Franks level of communicating and training is pretty unmatched. I’ve trained all over south Florida at top gyms, and around Central America and coming to Phantom was the first time I’ve experienced a real shift in how I understand what’s being taught. All in all, it’s a great environment with top training and kinda just a kickass place. 10/10 if you’re visiting or want to try it out this should be your first stop

One of the best academies that I’ve trained at. It’s super clean and Professor Frank is extremely proficient at teaching all of the techniques of jiu jitsu. It’s a super clean gym, the community there is awesome. They’ve only been open about a year and a half but are just about to move to a location about twice its current size. No doubt very soon they will be one of the largest/most successful academies in the area. OSS!!🥷

I recently moved to Virginia and checked out a few BJJ gyms to find the right fit. I ended up returning here because of Frank. His teaching is incredibly detailed, and he's always helping his students grow technically. Everyone at the gym is friendly and makes for great training partners.

If you are in the Maple Valley area, this is the place to bring your kids or yourself to learn / train Jiu Jitsu. Bingo is an OUTSTANDING black belt and person. He is IBJJF certified and comes from a legit lineage of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial artists, receiving his black belt many years ago from James Foster (Foster's BJJ) by way of Giva Santana (google it). Bingo and his team are excellent with kids and adults alike. You will receive excellent instruction, will get in shape, improve your confidence, and learn how to defend yourself. I am speaking from personal experience. I attended this academy from 2016 - 2021 before moving to Texas, achieving the rank of purple belt. One of the best decisions I ever made was walking through those doors for the first time. Try a class - you won't be disappointed.

Been training for some time before joining the phantom crew as I needed a place closer to home. Frank welcomed me with open arms and continues to help develop my game every time I step on the mat. Although this is a great place for anyone to start learning jiujitsu, I consider this place high level, as everyone who trains here are literal ninjas because of his teaching style. Great place to come learn from one of the best.

Tried out multiple jiu jitsu academies before starting with Frank. Phantom jiu jitsu academy is 100% next level. I’m a beginner and have been consistently attending franks fundamentals class. Frank spoke to me about and continues to speak about the importance of fundamentals and this has been huge for me and others. Trust him, his process and his curriculum. Franks background is incredible and on top of that he has an education degree. He’s the best instructor I’ve come across. His classes are safe, fun, informative and competitive. On top of that the culture at the gym is welcoming, friendly, safe and educational. Whether you want to compete or just learn jiu jitsu for fun/self defense/exercise, or as a hobby, phantom jiu jitsu is the school to go to.

Phantom Jui Jitsu is the second Academy I've gone to in northern Virginia and it will be the one I stick with as long as possible. Frank is incredible at BJJ, and teaches in a very understandable and efficient way. He breaks down concepts to their fundamentals so you can incorporate them into your game systematically, so that you're not just learning a series of moves but also how to improve your BJJ. I've been at this academy for about 5 months and will remain here indefinitely. I've felt safe as a white belt and haven't been exposed to anything dangerous, as Frank emphasizes safety and control while improving your game. Frank is also very friendly, and his passion and care for Phantom as well as teaching BJJ is obvious. 5/5, if you're near Herndon Virginia definitely check this place out

One of, if not the best Jiu Jitsu academies in the DMV area. The owner, Frank, comes from a lineage of well-known/awesome teachers and as a result is an accomplished and natural teacher himself. If you’re planning on investing time in BJJ and your own fitness, you would be making the right choice in choosing Phantom.

Frank is a world class instructor. His attention to detail and breakdown of movements makes it easy to learn proper technique. He gives attention to everyone in the room no matter your level of experience and knows his students by name. I look forward to continuing to train here. I’ve only spent a few months learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but training at Phantom JJ has made me really fall in love with it. Frank is a world class instructor and his way of simplifying techniques and concepts down has helped me so much. The culture of the gym is great too where everyone tries to help each other get better. Overall, I can’t recommend PhantomJJ enough.

Fantastic and welcoming facility! Frank is a legend and an excellent instructor. The training area is clean and well-maintained. During my 20+ years in martial arts I've had the privilege to learn from some of the best athletes and coaches around. Frank stands out amongst them as one of the greatest instructors I've come across. He processes a unique ability not only to preform the moves but also break them down into easily understandable concepts that any level practitioner would benefit from. If you live in the area and have not taken the opportunity to learn from this man, you are missing out!
