Exceptional academy! Ran by a true professional both on and off the mat. The owner is a class act stand up guy with a great skill set and a true love for the sport! I greatly recommend heel hook jj, for any level of athlete! Props to a great establishment!

My son and I attend Heel Hooks and we love it. Coach Chet is great and he’s really passionate about teaching Jiu Jitsu. I’ve seen a lot of growth in my and my son’s Jiu Jitsu since we joined!

Love coming here!! Very newbie friendly. Getting to do no gi every class is obviously the best, but finding a gym that makes a 4'11 girl like me feel comfortable is the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend 👍

Stopped by while in the area and received a warm welcome from Chester and the rest of the gym. The class had a nice pace of demonstrating each step of the sequence, then moving into a situational position to work that step. A very clean facility btw!! Located next door to Orange Theory in case you get a bit lost.

Awesome gym. Coach is at every class and is the best in the area. Classes are welcoming to everybody and the progression of skills is insanely fast. Highly recommend for beginners to the sport as well as people from other gyms to try it out, I’ll bet it’s better than one you’re at now.

Discovered this place while I was visiting from out of town. Chester is awesome, he is very knowledgeable and great to talk to. The gym trains no-gi which was different (in a good way) for me. The students there are welcoming and eager to help. I would definitely recommend this gym if you are in the area.

Did a drop in class here while visiting from out of town. The curriculum the class was working on happened to be in an area I struggle with and the instructor Chester and my training partners were patient and helpful which I appreciate. The gym was clean, the people were friendly and Chester was generous with his time despite the fact that I was passing through. Very cool place to train, with a slick aesthetic to boot. Thanks for letting me stop in!

This gym is awesome! This is my first time practicing jiu jitsu (& any martial art) and Chester is a great teacher! Extremely knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. Also, to the other girls out there wanting to try jiu jitsu, Heel Hooks has a great environment for females - very welcoming & respectful.

Heel Hooks is my go-to when visiting family in Chesapeake. The team there has an awesome vibe and every time I’ve dropped in, I am welcomed and shown a completely different perspective in jiu jitsu. If you’re looking for no-gi specialists in the Hampton Roads area, look no further.

I have trained at a few of the other academies in this area and none have the atmosphere of Heel Hooks. Chet is very attentive coach. He wants to make sure you have every detail you need to succeed. Some.of the best jiu jitsu in Tidewater.

My son attends Heel Hooks and let me tell you he loves it so much. Professor is amazing with my kid and takes the time to make sure he's picking up the techniques. And a plus is he has military discount and for the low price my son can train 5 out of the 7 days out of the week. We love it here.

Had the honor of being trained n coached by this man ( Professor Chester) if ever on the fence of learning a new set of skills , check out Heel Hooks JJ. You don’t have to be in top physical shape to start this journey. If you can fit through the front door positive attitude your in ! Classmates will become like extended family members . I moved away but will visit when I can . Don’t let previous bumps n bruises stop you. I got hit by a school bus on my Harley 7 operations later , several permanent injuries and limitation. They Will work around all your limitations and improve your life . Your only regret will be is you wished you started this journey. Bang for the buck you won’t find a better place .

This is easily the best grappling school I’ve ever dropped in to visit. Unbelievably technical, cutting edge grappling, and Chester is a fantastic coach. Great training environment and none of the nonsense related to traditional martial arts gyms. Hard training, awesome people, recommended for beginners, kids, adults, and women. Military and LEO friendly and a vibe that can’t be beat.

While I haven't been here yet, I have had Chet as my first true friend and training partner in juijitsu. He was a blue belt and I a white belt. We trained at a jkd gym in VA Beach and both fell in love with JiuJitsu. This is a solid dude who has a deep passion for the sport and a love for teaching. We both talked about how we would open gyms in those early days. He has made that dream come true before me. I would highly recommend training at his place. As soon as I get to the east coast again, I will, without a doubt, be visiting. Most likely leaving with some new leg lock black magic. Hope to see you there. Chet is an amazing instructor who has a passion for No-Gi Jiu Jitsu that’s downright contagious. My husband and I trained with and under him at another location before he opened up Heel Hooks and are so excited to see what he does now that he has his own place! Being a woman in a highly male dominated sport I was nervous about getting started but Chet never let me feel out of place or in danger of getting injured by guys much stronger than I am. He made sure that his classes were based on respect and learning together so that anyone that wanted to could jump in. My husband also had the opportunity to assist in coaching kids classes with Chet and we were always so excited to see how the kids loved him and what he had to show them! If we had kids of our own we’d be thrilled to have Chet teach them No Gi!
