If you are looking for a place to learn Brazilian Ju Jitsu, in a safe and welcoming environment, choose Brabo. The Academy offers classes throughout the day and week for hobbyists to competitors, and also has kids classes. I have been training at Brabo for almost 12 months, and have learned more than just some basic skills. It is a very welcoming place to train, within a house of Champions. Brabo Academy is a First Class institution!

I wish I could do more than five stars. Brabo academy is a positive environment & is a great place to learn & practice brazilian jujitsu . Professor Alex is a great teacher & really explains the technique and the coaches & the teammates /training partners are very friendly , supportive & welcoming . I’ve learned a lot here.i highly recommend Brabo is great experience. Good vibes & good training 🤙.

Professor Alex is an excellent coach, passionate about training and setting a high bar for his students. Our daughter Nailah aka Cuddlebug had the privilege of cross training there in both the kids and adult classes. We highly recommend if you have children his jiu jitsu program.

Brabo Academy has been an amazing place for my 6‑year‑old son to start his Jiu Jitsu journey, and it absolutely deserves 5 stars. The coaches are patient, encouraging, and great with young kids, balancing discipline with fun so he is excited to come to every class. The environment is clean, safe, and family‑friendly, and in just a short time we have already seen his confidence, focus, and coordination improve. Great vibe at Brabo. Mats are grippy (which I appreciate), everything’s clean, and the crew on the mat is friendly but tough. Went to Alex’s seminar couple years ago, very knowledgeable instructor. I knew him back when I was just starting out as white belt (good old “us grappling” times). Solid gym with real competitors.

We had both our 4 and 7 year old here to train and they both really enjoyed it. The instructors are wonderful and the instruction given during class is clear and easy for kids to follow. We highly recommend this Academy!

alex was my first ever jiujitsu teacher back when UFC gym was still open. i had no idea what jiujitsu was but i quickly fell in love with it and followed alex to brabo once ufc closed. alex provides a fun but focused learning environment and has top tier dj-ing skills. i don’t train anymore but would recommend him to anyone!

Great curriculum, Great people , awesome learning environment. The coach is very knowledgeable, and he teaches the very fine details of positions and moves. He’s also hilarious. Great instructors, friendly environment, and the cleanest BJJ gym I’ve ever come to train in. I was in town for the week and promised to introduce my sister to BJJ. Needless to say she loved it as they were very accommodating. Despite not having our own gi on hand, the Head Instructor Alex, was more than happy to let us sit in on the gi class. Top notch instruction, yet easy to jump into and follow!

Traveling into the Virginia Beach area for Thanksgiving Holidays. Decided to check out Brabo Jiu Jitsu Academy to get a roll in. Professor Alex was extremely hospitable and welcoming. I was able to train No-Gi. The instruction in class was thorough and descriptive. Positional sparring was great. Rolled with other students great time tough team over there. The classes are always great, mainly because of the instructors and also the people in them, from beginners to people who compete, it’s all around great energy. If I could give Brabo Academy 15 stars I would. For some background, I've been training BJJ for a year. While traveling to Virginia to visit some family, I wanted to continue to train and found Brabo Academy. There are three things that I absolutely loved about my week training at Brabo: 1. The instruction was outstanding. I very much enjoyed the range of classes offered (from beginner to advanced), as well as the lesson format that reinforced the lessons through positional sparring. 2. I really appreciated the wide schedule. If you can only train in the mornings, the afternoons, or at night, Brabo has a class to acomodate your schedule. 3. Alex, the owner and lead instructor, and his instructors were super kind and welcoming. The people teaching at Brabo are absolutely at the top of their art and are happy to help you improve. Also, if you're a parent, Brabo Academy has a great kids program! If I ever move to Chesapeake, I'd definitely make Brabo Academy my main gym.

I was looking for a sport for my kid that wasn’t just organized chaos and participation trophies. Brabo is it. Professor Alex runs a tight ship with emphasis on discipline and respect. The community that comes with this place is amazing. I have loved getting to know all the parents and kids that roll with my kid. My 5 year old has really developed confidence in herself since she has been going. She is starting to understand what hard work and consistency means. It’s been amazing to watch her grow and learn and have a safe place to do that. And something like that is worth all the money in the world for your kid. They also do compete but professor never pushes someone to do it unless he thinks they are ready. Brabo academy has multiple kids that have placed in the top 3 in multiple age groups. Just further testament to how great it is. Stop looking around. Just enroll here. You won’t regret it. I cannot speak any higher of this academy.

Fantastic place to train jiu jitsu in Virginia Beach. Professor Alex, in addition to being an amazing technical resource for jiu jitsu on IG and BJJ Fanatics, is a welcoming and knowledgeable coach IRL. I cannot overstate the quality of the Jiu Jitsu which is taught at Brabo. I have trained all over the world. Professor Alex Humen is, without a doubt, among the very best. His instruction is direct, pertinent, informed and most importantly… effective. When we moved from the LA area, I purposefully sought out a gym which would give my son an outlet that would both be fun, but also help him to develop as a leader. We have been training under Professor for 6 months and my son and I could not be more pleased. Professor Alex is a winner who develops winners and leadership in both adults and children. I recommend Brabo Jiu Jitsu Academy to anyone who is considering beginning their BJJ journey, as well as seasoned practitioners who want to hone their game to be the best it can be.

Amazing jiu jitsu academy run by Black Belt Oleksander "Alex" Humen. Professor Humen is young, adept and highly skilled As a jiu jitsu practitioner but is a very warm, friendly and encouraging mentor and friend. He has several instructional dvds on BJJ fanatics (highly highly reccomend). If you are new - he will make jiu jitsu fun for you and accelerate your learning curve. If you're seasoned he will show you amazing techniques that will open up your thinking. I can't stress it enough If you're a student looking for a new school do not look further than Brabo.
