Every review you’ve seen has positive feedback. The truth is, from the first class to the next is amazing! Simply put great people from coach Jason to Dustin to Alora. If you want to be around great good environment and even better people this is the place to be for the whole family…give it a try during their trial period. Plus they have a gym to workout, cancel yours and save some money!
Great Place to train. I been here 5 years and I been training martial arts all my life. Jiu Jitsu changed me and its not a non stop part of my life. I love the coaches. This environment is friendly
Great experience overall. My 6 year old loves coming here They have a great balance of fun and learning. Wonderful instructors all the way from top to bottom. Everyone is so engaged in making sure the kids are learning at the same time lots of fun is incorporated.
I’ve been training at this Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym consistently for the past four months, and I can confidently say it’s been a transformative experience. Having previously trained at two other facilities in different states, I can unequivocally state that the level of focus on fundamentals here is unmatched. This gym stands out not only because of its curriculum but also because of the values it instills in its students.
For anyone seeking to learn Jiu Jitsu or any martial art, the primary goal is often to improve self-defense skills—essentially, learning how to control a situation if it ever becomes necessary and avoid any major injuries to yourself or anyone else involved. Coach Jason emphasizes this philosophy in every single class. This approach gives you both the skills and the confidence to handle yourself effectively and responsibly.
What really sets this gym apart is its structured and comprehensive curriculum, rooted in the techniques created by Helio Gracie and his family in 1925 that are available for self-study at GracieUniversity.com. Every session dives deeply into the “why” behind each move, ensuring that students understand not just the technique but the principles behind it. This level of detail and care builds a strong foundation that benefits practitioners of all skill levels.
The programs here cater to all age groups, making it a welcoming environment for families, beginners, and advanced practitioners alike. But beyond the instruction, what truly makes this gym special is the community. The Brock family has fostered an incredible atmosphere of camaraderie and support. Whether you’re stepping on the mat for the first time or you’re a seasoned grappler, you immediately feel like part of a family.
Over the last few months, this gym has quickly become a second home for me. Training here nearly every day has been one of the most rewarding commitments I’ve made. If you’re considering taking the leap into Jiu Jitsu or looking for a place to train, I can’t recommend this gym enough. Stop hesitating and give it a try—you won’t regret it. See you on the mat!
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur has been nothing short of an eye-opening, enlightening and positive experience in my life. Coach Jason, along with other instructors, and the community as a whole, encourage growth, learning and development. I can't express enough gratitude for joining this gym and practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu these past few years. If you're intrigued about the art, this particular school is where I highly recommend one should start their journey.
This place is amazing.
Coach Jason and Alora Brock are legends. They have created a gym that is safe, clean, welcoming, comfortable, organized, and very effective and efficient at teaching Jiu Jitsu. The students are also very nice and easy to train with, no doubt because this gym and its owners attract those kinds of people. The instructors are very clear and helpful with their teaching, and it doesn't hurt that the Gracie Jiu Jitsu program is very organized, structured, comprehensive, and complete. As I have started this journey, I have felt like I'm joining a family. Not only would I highly recommend Gracie Jiu Jitsu, I would highly recommend this location.
I recently started training at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur with no prior martial arts experience, and I’ve absolutely loved every moment! The instructors and fellow students are incredibly welcoming, creating a supportive and encouraging environment. The classes are thoughtfully structured, making it easy to follow along and progress at a comfortable pace, no matter your skill level. I highly recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to anyone interested in learning martial arts—you won’t regret it!
I love training here! The instructors show a lot of care and are super dedicated to their craft. Great environment for beginners and all skill levels. I’ve been away from BJJ for about 20 years, and I’ve learned more here in a few months than a whole year at my previous gym. My kids love training here too. It’s a very family oriented environment.
I (nervously) joined the Gracie Decatur Women’s Empowered self-defense program a month ago, and it’s been the BEST decision! Why nervously? I’m middle-aged and have zero martial arts experience. Doubts like, “Am I too old? How will I keep up?” kept creeping in. But after just one introductory class, I skipped the 10-day free trial and signed up on the spot. What made it an easy decision?
- Incredible coaches – the coaches are expert teachers who truly care. They break everything down in a way that’s easy to follow and make sure you are learning at your own pace. They give real-time individual feedback so you can keep improving.
- A generous community – the class has a great mix of ages; everyone is so welcoming, encouraging, and helpful. They remind you that everyone, just like you, started from zero.
- A highly effective program – the 20 self-defense techniques are practical and powerful (they give you leverage against larger opponents).
As I kept coming to classes, I’ve realized this has been more than a self-defense class for me:
- I’ve been building confidence, improving mobility and coordination, and developing new mind-body connections.
- It’s teaching me humility, patience, and persistence. You start looking forward to each class, knowing you’re getting a bit better each time.
If you’re on the fence, I can’t recommend this program enough. It’s never too late to invest in yourself!
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur is a dynamic and robust fitness and training facility. If you are looking for fun, a challenge and community then this is the place for you! Don't wait until the new year, get started now and invest in yourself!
Gracie Decatur, founded by Coach Jason in Decatur, has been more than just a Jujitsu training facility for my son. Over the past five years, since the onset of the pandemic, Jason has not only instructed him in martial arts but has also instilled a can-do spirit and a resilient desire to excel.
Initially, my intention was for my son to learn self-defense against bullying. However, Jason's teachings transcended physical skills, imparting lessons in self-discipline and personal growth. Despite my initial concerns about my son's ability to persevere from such a young age, his fears were quickly dispelled. With each passing year, he has developed confidence, self-control, and physical fitness—becoming both physically stronger and mentally robust. For any child facing challenges with willpower, bullying, or starting new endeavors, I would recommend Gracie Decatur without hesitation. It's not just a martial arts school; it's a community where children learn discipline and build confidence, all within a supportive family-like environment.
Our entire family trains at Gracie Decatur and the experience has been wonderful! My daughters love the Bullyproof program and it has helped them to grow with confidence, discipline and focus. The coaches are patient and make every class rewarding and fun. The adult classes are no exception and the instructors are highly skilled and passionate about what they do. We can’t say enough good things about the Brock family – they have created a friendly and supportive culture and have built a great sense of community.
Jiu-Jitsu has been a true ‘Down Regulator for Life’ for me, helping me recalibrate my stress from the pressures of the business world. Gracie Decatur has created an amazing culture that made me feel safe and welcome, even as a total beginner with no martial arts background. Now, as a blue belt, I’m more excited than ever about my journey ahead. Training here has reframed how I approach challenges, making it clear what really matters. Gracie Decatur is more than just a gym…it’s a grounding place with real life stakes, perspective, and growth. Highly recommend!
The coaches and community here are top notch. Fantastic, safe, and welcoming environment to learn BJJ with a self defense focus. The children's and women's classes are great as well!
I’ve been taking the WE classes since the end and of May this year and I absolutely love it! My mom and I take classes together and we both got our second stripes in todays class. Everybody is super friendly & the instructors are amazing and supportive. There are various programs for everybody so I highly recommend for anybody who is considering!
Gracie Jiu-jitsu Decatur has a terrific Women's Empowerment class with staff whom, with seriousness, expertise, patience, encouragement and smiles, teach their students the techniques and confidence to learn self-defense skills to protect themselves in potentially dangerous, predatory situations. Coach Alora and Coach Jason sincerely care for the well-being of their students. As a woman and mother, that comforts me greatly. Thank you!!
There’s no other place better than this one to learn BJJ. The facility, curriculum and coaches are at its best.
The head coach is not just an expert on the techniques but he also has very good eyes on his students. He knows exactly what we need and very helpful.
This is the perfect training center! From the team being supportive, to all the students being encouraging regardless of skillset, you will feel a part of the Gracie Decatur Family!
Our son did more than 2 years with Gracie Jiujitsu. Although he moved on to another sport, we have so many great takeaways. Great mix of the physical, the mental and the fun.
I trained here for about 7 months until moving to the Spokane area and really loved it. The Gracie University system itself is amazing and allows for a person to learn Jiu-jitsu in a mostly safe environment (all combat sports involve risks) while getting into better shape. It's also great for families and I would put my child in GJJ over any other martial art due to the fact that most physical altercations end up in a grappling scenario and after learning Jiu-jitsu
one is able to diffuse the situation without using excessive force/violence. Jason and his family are great people and the instructors are excellent.
Gracie Decatur is a mecca of jiu-jitsu. The instructors are great, the academy is well managed (no bro messes) and it feels very warm and inviting, not elitist.
What a great place for everyone !! This is a safe and friendly atmosphere to learn at your own pace. No matter what your physical or skill level is this is the place to go!
I've been training at Gracie Decatur for the last 7 months, and I have nothing but positive things to say about Coach Jason and the rest of the school. The coaches are knowledgeable and caring, and students are invested in each other's learning and progress. A big plus with your membership is that you can access online classes through Gracie University and take advantage of the on-site gym and massage room (cool adds). If you're looking for a place to learn Jiu-Jitsu or self-defense in a welcoming, fun, low-pressure environment, I would definitely check this place out.
Gracie Decatur is a great Jiu Jitsu academy with an amazing atmosphere. Both the coach’s and fellow students form a great environment for learning and developing both Jiu Jitsu and practical life skills. Head coach Jason is great at what he does and provides wonderful teaching that caters to each individual’s needs while also creating a structured safe group environment.
The facilities are clean and well maintained, large mat space, weight room, spa/cold plunge, private mat spaces, library, and zen garden makes it so you don’t want to leave. I’m glad I walked into this gym 2 years ago the level of personal development I’ve achieved has been life changing.
The Brock family has welcomed us with open arms from day #1, and they continue to surprise us each and every day, with their enthusiastic attitude and positive reinforcement. Entrusting individuals with your kids can be difficult, especially when it comes to learning self defense, but the team at Gracie Decatur make the decision easy with their strong core values and an unwavering ability to always connect with our kids (highs & lows). Building confidence is so important at a young age, but equally important is being humbled. Over the last 2 years, our children have learned both sides of the coin, allowing them to be well rounded and more resilient young humans. We can’t thank you enough for adding value to our kids life… Learning Jiu Jitsu has been a bonus!
Highly recommend GJJ Decatur for kids BJJ. My kids love the mix between BullyProof classes and the option to attend the Blackbelt Tue Thu classes as well. Tons of kids - all ages and skill levels - gives my son and daughter great partner training opportunities. I have also met great people since signing my kids up. Jason and his team give the kids an excellent learning opportunity!
I've been training here for 4 years and counting. Amazing place with awesome coaches and people. Wonderful place to learn jiujitsu for all skill levels and ages. I'm so glad I get to train here.
This is a great place to train, lots of good people and good diversity in training partners. The classes are perfect pace and easy to follow. Everyone is polite and respectful and i’ve made many friends here!!
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur is absolutely phenomenal! You can tell that Jason and Alora put their all into making this place welcoming and fun, while maintaining a focus on developing skills and experience for the learner of any level. What impresses me the most is the change I see in my kids, who have each gained confidence and the ability to hold their own against a bully. While the studio is gorgeous, it’s the focus on people that makes this place truly special.
Great school with a strong sense of community and camaraderie. The focus is on the technique and self defense and less on the physicality it requires. Highly recommend!
I’ve trained here (about 4 times per week) since June 2021 and can’t recommend Gracie Decatur enough! They have a safe, effective, and positive environment where students and instructors leave their egos at the front door. Whether you simply want to learn the basics of self defense or you want to practice at a more competitive level, you will find a supportive staff who will respect and complement your training goals.
Gracie Decatur is a welcoming and exciting place to train for anyone looking to connect with a community, learn self defense, and practice jiu-jitsu. All of the coaches bring unique perspectives to the table and are willing to help anyone while having fun as well. I’m very thankful for my time spent at the gym and what I’ve learned as a woman to protect and value myself.
As a visitor at this school, I was highly impressed. Jason and Alora are extremely knowledgable, everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and the facility was clean. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
Some of the best instructors I've had the pleasure to train with. Not only are they good BJJ practitioners they are also thoughtful teachers. Plus they offer an adult wrestling class which is hard to find.
Can't say enough positive things about this academy. The coaches are great, students are friendly, and the facility is immaculate. Started training here almost a year ago and it quickly became my second home. If you're interested in learning self defense and/or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Atlanta area, this is the place!
I highly recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur. I took a long break from Jiu-Jitsu after my back surgery and was hesitant to return to the mat until Gracie Decatur opened. Everything about Gracie Decatur has been positive for me. Jason is a very good instructor and genuinely cares about all the students.
Great place to train. I've trained various martial arts on and off all my life and the two things that really stand out to me about Gracie Decatur are the clientele and the passion and energy of the instructors. The clientele are all down to earth regular people looking to learn self defense and not people looking to pick fights, so the environment feels very friendly, welcoming, and an enjoyable place to learn. As for the instructors, their passion and energy are contagious. I sometimes show up to class tired or unmotivated but five minutes into the session, the enthusiasm and energy of the coaches has me awake, alert, energetic and motivated to learn. The coaches are also very practical and logical; they understand the reasons behind every move and they actually explain it to you. This really helps the moves cement in your mind and visualize the real-world scenario.
A clean, welcoming place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Jason Brock is an energetic and entertaining teacher - safety and self-defense are his focuses. Train at Gracie Decatur if you are tired of the typical unsafe and egotistical environments associated with grappling for sport. I'll see you there!
Grateful that I've found Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur! I recently moved back to Georgia and was looking for a place to learn jiu-jitsu. After passing Gracie Decatur many times I finally stopped in for a free class. Yes, free. Coach Jason and Coach Alora are fantastic! It can be intimidating being "the new guy", and everyone, from the senior students, to other beginners, made me feel comfortable and welcome. This experience has greatly exceeded my expectations of learning jiu-jitsu. I plan on having both my children train here when they are old enough, as well as my wife if I I can talk her into it. So if you're looking for a place to train, or looking for somewhere for your kids to learn how to protect themselves, this is the place for you. I'm on my 5th class now, and looking forward to spending many hours here learning from the best. Hope to see you on the mat soon. You won't regret it.
I highly recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur. Coach Jason and Coach Alora are highly motivated instructors with a lot of knowledge and eye for detail. The Gracie curriculum is the best for learning BJJ as it is highly structured with a lot of online content support beyond your in class lesson.
If you are interested in proven self-defense techniques or already train Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur is the place!
If you have thought about trying jiu-jitsu, or even just learning some basic yet effective self-defense, but are maybe feeling a little tentative to do so, this is the place to go. As a newbie with no prior fighting experience of any kind I can confirm that the combatives program is suitable for beginners. Safety is the top priority, the primary rules being "don't get hurt" and "don't hurt anyone". You will be working WITH your classmates to learn the techniques. You don't have to worry about aggressive sparring, being hit, put in painful holds, etc. If you're like me you'll be having fun and feeling empowered in no time. Really loving it so far.
Coach Jason and Alora are excellent instructors. They are passionate about jiu-jitsu and is a really good environment to learn. They know the techniques and are very meticulous when teaching.
Coach Jason and Alora are excellent instructors. When getting started in BJJ, proper technique is vital for longevity in the sport. Coach Jason knows his stuff and goes out of his way to make sure his students understand the techniques he teaches. A real gem in Decatur, definitely worth checking out!!
Amazing! I love my experience at Gracie JJ Decatur. Coach Jason and Coach Alora are great teachers. They give you the best support and keep you motivated. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. And it is CLEAN! I love both the Women’s Empowerment class and Combatives.
As a new student the instructor and all of the senior students have made me feel very welcome. Everyone there is friendly and seems committed to being safe, having fun, and working together to learn.
I have known Jason for many years. I would honestly be a little scared if someone existed that was more passionate about Jiu-Jitsu and coaching LOL. But on a serious note, Jason has a very unique ability to connect with anyone - regardless of their current abilities - and help take them to the next level while keeping a lighthearted atmosphere conducive to learning.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor Jason Brock has been my personal coach for almost a year now. Since training with him, my endurance, my flexibility, my motivation, and most importantly, my confidence has greatly improved. Jason lives a jiu-jitsu lifestyle 100% even down to his diet. He is the real deal and I highly recommend training with him at Gracie Decatur. You and your family will be impressed, comfortable and inspired by him. Do what I did and stop by and say hello. You will not be disappointed.
Along with several other instructors, Jason was instrumental in my passing the Gracie Combatives test. His thorough knowledge of the techniques enabled him to correct some minor errors and give me last minute pointers before we started recording the test on video. His calm demeanor and sense of humor helped me deal with the pressure and lighten the mood as I successfully demonstrated all four phases of the test. Overall Jason has the right blend of technical knowledge and coaching ability and is an excellent instructor!
Jason Brock has mastered the art of balancing being a phenomenally talented leader and instructor, yet able to communicate clearly without condescension no matter if you are an expert or a novice. Those interested in BJJ can't be in better hands with Mr. Brock at Gracie Decatur.
Jason is an incredible teacher and motivator . His knowledge and patience while instructing is second to none . He truly wants you to succeed on your Jui Jitsu Journey . Stop by and take a class you will be hooked . Good luck on your new place Jason.
I have known Jason brook well over 10 years and what a phenomenal leader. I would recommend everyone to visit this location and I promise you will leave with improvements that you never imagined!
Jason Brock is an incredible leader, teacher, coach and entrepreneur. Jason genuinely cares about teaching individuals, team members and leaders of tomorrow to be the best they can be.
His vast knowledge and willingness to learn becomes contagious to others who interact with him.
The Brock Family are amazing and those who encounter them are in great hands!
I stopped attending because the main instructor, Jason Brock, is a jerk. You can tell this guy was a bully throughout his life. While coming off as charismatic, energetic, and friendly at first as you get to know him and the layers unfold you see beneath the facade.
He enjoys power tripping. Makes off putting remarks towards students that are more introverted and generally you can tell this is a person that isn’t performing jiu-jitsu from a place of good heartenedness, protection, and wholeness but from generational trauma, ego, and selfishness.
Examples include saying things like “Don’t be THAT guy” after I asked about whether a lesson completed was marked. Telling people to bring their own water bottles because he doesn’t wanna have to wash the ones they have available there. A hundred tiny remarks like that which add up instead of being pleasant and helping his students build confidence he likes to punch down.
Mostly he doesn’t own up or apologize when called out on behavior but doubles down. He’ll shame students in front of others. This is not a safe environment. Much better jiu jitsu schools elsewhere and I’m glad I left. Do not recommend. Especially having children around this guy. Not a good role model for adults either.
Stopped into the facility a while back. The man at the front desk (discount Mr. Clean looking guy) was condescending, dismissive of my other disciplines, and frankly gave me Brock Turner vibes. Months later, I still feel like I dodged a bullet.
