I just started a couple weeks ago. I am the whitest belt you can have, with no experience. Everyone is pretty chill and inviting, but there are a lot of folks who know what they are doing, and competitive. I worked at a gym for over 10 years, and am impressed with how clean everything is. All the coaches look out for your safety when showing techniques as well. The from desk is always available to answer questions, the coaches are always there to answer questions. I was very anxious the first day, but the other students were patient and guided me a bit. I feel a little more confident now after two weeks and getting my feet wet learning how to do more and more basics. I am having a lot of fun and learning a lot.
Posted a month agoSBG Atlanta is the best cultural dojo and gym in town. Training under Coach Phil is an exceptional experience. He's not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable in martial arts. I highly recommend this BJJ gym for anyone looking to train in a supportive and expert environment.
Posted 3 weeks agoThere aren't enough positive things that I could say about SBG. When I first moved to Atlanta about 2 and half years ago I moved here without having much family in town and no friends at that. I had always wanted to get into boxing but after checking out a couple of other gyms I was feeling discouraged. Luckily, upon a recommendation I made my way here. I train 5-6 days a week now and consider it to be my second home, my tribe and my family. Not only is it a place where you learn and progress in a safe and fun environment but it's a gym that offers all kinds of opportunities. Whether you're looking to get fit, network and make friends, compete or fight professionally down the line these are all avenues that are available to you. We have all different age groups at SBG, from 4 year olds to adults in their 70s. It's a family friendly gym and it's cool to see parents and kids training together, even grandkids! One of the big differences between SBG and other Martial Arts gyms you might come across is the caliber of coaching. Our coaches are all well rounded, highly skilled and knowledgeable Martial Artists that teach and practice in terms of real world life scenarios and self defense, not just the sports aspect of the various arts. Which is important to me particularly as a young woman. The facility is clean and well kept as all coaches make an effort to stress the importance of sanitation and cleanliness. I enjoy training and learning beneath all of our coaches as they each move and practice in a different way, so there's something to learn and adopt from each person. Coach Dave and Coach Lawson are the the two most influential coaches for me in terms of my MMA training and are both just genuine people I love and am grateful to have met, alongside all other coaches and friends as well. If you're considering giving us a shot I'd say you won't regret it!!
Posted 3 months agoAs someone brand new to martial arts, in my short time at SBG Atlanta, I’ve quickly felt a part of something larger than myself. All of the coaches and staff are the friendliest people who genuinely want to see everyone that comes through the front door get better every day. Can’t wait to see where my journey with SBG takes me.
Posted 5 months agoSBG Atlanta has the best bjj and martial arts programs in the area. The gym is welcoming and the coaches are knowledgeable and skilled at breaking down the information to make it easy to learn. The mat space is well organized. The gym is spotless and clean which is crucial for anyone considering getting into martial arts. If you’re interested in learning bjj or martial arts, you’d be doing a disservice to your future self to train anywhere else. You will not find a better gym.
