Ive moved, but was always so impressed with Prof Diogo I still found a way to work with him. Nothing like having to work with other gyms to realize how great some of the past ones are. I cant say enough positively about how great of a place and atmosphere there is here.

Tried a few different places in town before committing to GB Charlotte. Knowledgeable instructor and fun group of students were key to my decision! Even though I was completely new to BJJ when I started, I was always welcomed and had a great time. Another great benefit of GB is that you can train in any GB location across the globe (I have trained during some trips and the process was straightforward).

GB Charlotte is a great family oriented school with top notch students (no egos) and world class instructors (again, zero egos). From a beginner’s perspective, everyone is extremely helpful and it’s easy to see why so many stick around. It’s a great workout and you will never stop learning. Whether your goal is to personally challenge yourself, get into shape or personal self defense... I can’t say enough good things about this school!

Gracie Barra takes training to another level by implementing both traditional values, and up to date techniques, used by jiu jitsu practicioners. Honoring the jiu jitsu practicioner of before, and now in both sport, and self defense. They are professional and courteous. The facilities are clean and you are treated like family. Much respect to Gracie Barra Charlotte. Sincerely, Eric Hawes

I was able to drop in and try out a class here and had a really good experience. Large, clean open mat space. Seemed like a good group of people and the instructor Lacerda was super nice. If you're looking for a place to join you should definitely try out Gracie Barra Charlotte.

I've been training at Gracie Barra Charlotte since they opened their doors. I relocated from Denver, CO as a purple belt and couldn't wait to see what I might learn from Diogo the head instructor. Besides world class Jiu Jitsu training, I've also learned a thing or two about how a professional business is run. Diogo and Thea foster an environment of respect, and discipline while keeping the entire experience fun and welcoming for all. When you visit you can expect a welcoming, clean, and safe environment to observe for you and your family. You can also try before signup. Give Gracie Barra a chance and start you BJJ journey. See you on the mats!

I've been attending the school for a few weeks and I think I've found exactly what I'm looking for in martial arts training. Everyone I've met has been positive and willing to walk through technique during the sessions. It's definitely a learning based environment which means a lot to me since I don't have a martial arts background. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in Jiu Jitsu or grappling in general.

As a Realestate Professional in the Carolinas part of my job involves referring the best that Charlotte has to offer to single adults, families with children, and others interested in their health, and fitness, and long term quality of life. Gracie Barra ( South Blvd) has my highest rate of approval. Like many kids by the age of 12 my son also has taken karate classes of some sort; and after a while like many kids he has gotten bored and started to complain about going to class. NOT at Gracie Barra. he looks forward to "training' as he calls it and often reminds me that its training day. There are sessions that fit everyone's needs or desires. From beginner to advanced. From children, to teen, and adult classes. Last but not least, you will simply love the staff, check them out and let me know what you think; Best Regards, Natalie Bingham

Gracie Barra Charlotte is THE place in Charlotte for solid BJJ training. What sets Gracie Barra apart is its structured curriculum. One knows exactly what techniques will be drilled each day in class and this curriculum is transferrable to any Gracie Barra school. The learning process progresses with assuredness that the fundamentals are solidified. As for Gracie Barra Charlotte, the first thing that one notices is it's CLEAN - no clutter and no odor. Next you'll most likely be greeted by either Professor Diogo, or his wife Thea. Both exude an enthusiasm in their demeanor that let's one know they genuinely care about their students, and truly love BJJ; and Diogo's accolades and ability are legitimate and hard earned. It has been said that the hardest obstacle of one's training is getting through the door. At Gracie Barra Charlotte that is not the case. You'll love the people, the classes, the camaraderie. If you've had any curiosity about BJJ, Gracie Barra Charlotte is the place to explore those curiosities safely and enjoyably. If you've had a less than positive, or frustrating experiences with BJJ, Gracie Barra Charlotte is the place to lay those feelings to rest. To all men, women, and children - just come through the door, and meet this wonderful family…See you on the mat.

Jiu Jitsu doesn't get any better than this. I've visited this place a while ago and was really impressed! The training from start to finish was everything you expected it to be. It was disciplined, lighthearted and energetic all at the same time. Everyone there was really cool and more than willing to help, give pointers etc. At the time I couldn't join because of my schedule but I will be becoming a member very soon! Awesome place to learn and grow!

Thea and Diogo provide an all around positive experience for anyone looking to start practicing Jujitsu. Gracie Barra Charlotte creates an extremely welcoming atmosphere, regardless of your skill level. Diogo is a fantastic teacher, looking to see growth in his students. The facilities are extremely clean and well kept, and the other students are helpful in training with new students. There are multiple class offerings throughout the week to accommodate most schedules. Whether you want to take your first martial arts class, or you've been training Jujitsu for years, you can't go wrong with Gracie Barra Charlotte.

My home school is in Massachusetts at Gracie Barra New England with Carlos Terrinha. I was visiting Charlotte for 2 weeks and needed somewhere to train while away from home. I found Gracie Barra Charlotte and decided to give them a try. Diogo is a great teacher who has lots of patience and attention to detail. We trained hard. Diogo even found the time to roll with me which was a great surprise. Thea, who is Diogo's wife and appears to really run the place, made me feel at home in their gym. The other students were very friendly and I had a great time down there training. I hope to visit again soon.

I have trained at Gracie Barra Charlotte now for 6 months and love it! They have created an excellent learning environment where ANY skill level is welcome. I cannot say enough good things about them. Invest in yourself by training here and you will find more out about yourself than you would at any "gym".

Gracie Barra Charlotte feels like home. I've trained around town... I've enjoyed everyone's training, different experience and teachings. I personally, feel that training in a clean, pure BJJ environment is crucial to advancing myself on and off the mats. Under the instruction and care of Professor Diogo and Coach Thea I feel as if I am a part of something greater. I truly look forward to meeting more of the GB Family if they are anything like here... The instruction was well put as un-matched, but I would take that one step farther. Professor is highly skilled, well-rounded, patient, graceful, and knowledgeable in BJJ. The best take downs and throws I've experienced yet. Now, I am confident in my standing game, and I owe it to professor and his lineage. Overall, I would not rather be anywhere else. The family of students and our environment reflect Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at its finest. Conveniently located, there's nothing to lose for anyone to give it a shot. If Your interested in a kids program, You have to drop by and see for Youself. Great Program - I look forward to seeing all of the kids blossom! Thank You Professor Diogo and Coach Thea, You have truly enlightened my BJJ experience! Kerwin

The best BJJ school in NC. The organization of the whole program is unmatched. The patience and knowledge of Professor Diogo is without bounds. Thea is helpful, informative, and energetic about spreading the BJJ lifestyle. If you are looking for an organized, well taught, disciplined school then this is the place for you! When you train with Diogo and Thea you are becoming a part of their family!

If I could come to class every night, I would. The school is always clean, even after the kids have been playing in the play area. Professor Diogo and Thea are very friendly and will answer any questions you have. The training curriculum is very easy to follow and really helps you see what new techniques you will learn each class. Professor Diogo is extremely patient when teaching and his technical knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is top notch so you get your money's worth. I couldn't ask for a better teacher to have on my long road to earning my black belt.

I walked in about 6:40 on a Tuesday. There were no employees visible and the place was full of kids. I did get greeted shortly before class started. Being totally new to BJJ I thought the place with "BJJ for everyone" would be a good place to practice. We watched the instructor demonstrate one technique before practicing it ourselves then moved onto another practice where some students are laying down and other students practice making them tap out. I was laying down at one point and a blue belt jammed their elbow into my ribs, they audibly popped twice. No one else had done any elbowing the entire time except his guy. He laughed and didn't care. When I was recovering from that in the back, trying to breath, I caught the instructor and another student laughing at me. There's more options in Charlotte. It's $100 enrollment free, $156 per month, and $90 per gi which you will need to purchase from their company.
