I am in town for a week and had to get some training in so I called and they said come on in. Treated me like I was a member. Extremely welcoming. Felt like home away from home. The mats are awesome spring boards! Wish I lived here bc I would for sure become a member. Glad I chose to call them first instead of the other jiujitsu academies nearby.
Posted 1 year agoI've taken my son's here for almost 3 years and Professor Scott is amazing with young kids
Posted 1 year agoAmazing place! The staff is incredibly friendly, especially the two ladies at the front desk—Coach Marleen and Coach Edyta, who are both exceptionally knowledgeable. Coach Scott is fantastic with the kids, and the entire coaching team is top-notch! It’s a great environment to learn self-defense for both kids and adults. The facility is clean, spacious, and even has a weight room. Come be a part of this wonderful jiu-jitsu community!
I’ve been training here for about a year, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The staff is not only highly professional but also incredibly courteous, ensuring all your training needs are met. The professors and students alike create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes every session enjoyable.
Been coming here over 4yrs. Prof Jamil, Prof Scott, Prof Chris, Prof Sergio and all the other staff will take you as far as you want to go. My kids have been all over the country and love this sport. Bring your kids and yourself and make some time for your family to train and grow in the sport together. You won’t regret it.
Outstanding facility ( always clean, showers accessible, big changing rooms, lots of place for parents to watch their kids ) very dedicated instructors and inclusive of all levels of learning. Myself and my kids ( 12yrs and 6yrs ) love the place, coaches and professors. Adults, teens and kids programs offer maximum benefits, including discipline, mental focus, stress relief and physical fitness.
Took my kids 11 & 13 here today. What an awesome facility, but the staff make the place what it is. Professor Scott treated the kids with respect and kindness. Front desk staff treated us like we were family despite just meeting them today.
Dropped in for 6a class and had a great experience, everyone was welcoming and had great training partners, highly reccomended to anyone from out of town.
I was in town for work, and dropped in on the 6am GB1 class. Professor Scott was welcoming and friendly, and was great at breaking concepts down clearly and concisely for me and other students. Partnered with Ryan and Chase and others during class, and they were also friendly and very skilled. Appreciate the warm welcome from the Professor and the students. Would highly recommend the school.
We signed up my 5yo, almost 6yo, for the kids level classes, and she loves it. Professor Scott, the coaches, and the staff are all very welcoming & friendly. Professor Scott works so well with all the kids, and my daughter always asks when she has jiu jitsu class again. We’re glad we found this facility & decided to sign up for classes.
Let me start off by saying the professors are some of the best I’ve trained with they understand your need as an individual to reach your goals. The kids program is also awesome, if you have little ones don’t wait to start a rewarding point in there life of Brazilian jiu-jitsu
I’ve been around Jiu Jitsu in Northern IL since 2012, the instruction and facility at GB Libertyville are the best I’ve seen. Professors Jamil, Sergio, and Scott demonstrate a commitment to excellence that goes beyond the mat. Their instruction is top-notch, and what sets them apart is their willingness to go the extra mile for their students. They demonstrate a genuine desire to see their students not only excel in Jiu Jitsu but also thrive in life. Beyond regular class hours, they willingly invest extra time to refine techniques and strategize, pushing students beyond their limits. Their generosity and knowledge are a big reason I’ve made this my Jiu-Jitsu home. The gym culture is exceptional. From the front desk to the mats, there is sense community and a strong team environment where everyone is encouraged to push their limits during training. The facility at GB Libertyville is unlike any other in the area. HUGE mat space, a professional-level weight room with everything you need, from rowing machines to climbing ropes, sleds, racks, and kettlebells. The male and female locker rooms are spacious and always clean. The showers are convenient for those, like me, who squeeze in training during lunch breaks. This is the ideal space for anyone looking to train Jiu Jitsu, whether it’s your first class or you’re a competitor seeking to sharpen your skills among like-minded individuals.
My pre-teen daughter has been going to Gracie Barbra Jiu Jitsu Academy in Libertyville for 6 months. I am glad I made the choice to take her there. Master Scotty is amazing to work with kids. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive. The facility is safe, clean, and welcoming. Although my daughter tells me ‘she doesn’t like it’, it’s amazing to see her have good time while she’s there.. :). The difference in her confidence level since she started taking classes is notable. I am so impressed with the academy, I am likely going to join myself.
Awesome facilities! Very friendly crew. Would recommend to anyone at any level.
Great place for kids and adults to learn how to defend themselves from an attacker, how to respect others, stay focus, disciplined and confident. However, beyond the physical training and agility, students learn life-skills that will contribute to healthy growth and development. I strongly recommend Gracie Barra Libertyville!
Best Jiu Jitsu school in the Libertyville / North Chicago area. Professor Jamil and everybody there make you feel like family right away
A fantastic community. i came here two years ago needing something in my life that was real and I found it at Gracie Barra in Libertyville. Everyone is encouraging and supportive. The owner (Jamil) cares about his members well being, the instructors are top notch human beings who are experts in BJJ. From self defense to competing you can grow here. Besides the amenities are unlike any jui jitsu place on the planet. Cant say enough good things!!!
Was in town on business and visited GB Libertyville to train. I was blown away. This is an amazing training facility. Besides it being clean, the location has showers, lockers, a changing room for males and females, a weight room, and two rooms with mats. The main training room has spring floors. Pretty cool. The team is professional, warm, and very welcoming. Great experience. Highly recommend. 👍👍
Great instructors, state of the art facility with large mat space, separate gym space for weightlifting and cardio, locker room, private mats in separate room, a training schedule that will meet the needs of any bjj enthusiast, and most importantly a super friendly environment and team who are looking to help each improve and have fun.
It is a far commute but this place is definitely worth it. The coaches and professor here are all amazing. My son use to be shy and timid. After coming here my didn't just learn a new sport but has also gained confidence and has made friends here. Thank you for all that you have done for my kid. .
Over the years I've heard a ton of great things about Jiu Jitsu. I began looking around I quickly found that Gracie Barra Libertyville was one of the best places in the area. I'm 48 years old so was a little nervous stepping out on the mat. I couldn't have found a more welcoming place. Professor Jamil and Coach Scott primarily lead the training the time slots I attend. Both are great instructors. In six months, I've learned a ton, got in great shape, and met some of the nicest people. I'm enjoying competing for the team and having a ton of fun. The higher belts are always willing to challenge and help the lower belts to make them better. People drive a long way to train here....glad I found out why.
Great place! Welcoming. Fantastic group Learn to protect yourself. Gain discipline. Get in tune with your body and a dedicated community
Coach Scott and all the staff have been great with my boys (ages 3 and 5). They offer a good balance between discipline and fun. The boys genuinely enjoy going to class, get some much needed exercise and feel a great sense of accomplishment after learning new skills.
My 7 years old start going there, and he loves it, he made me to sign up as well And now i love it :-) Very Very professional, and very family like please. Highly recommend.
I don't take classes here, but I went to buy bjj apparel from them today. They have good gear, and the coach was pretty personable and the place looks pretty nice.
Not just Gracie name. This school is great for me. I've been to 3 other schools during my training. This has been the best fit for me. Great structure, very much a family. All of the professors are great they listen and have really helped me with my game. Love this place and look to get my kids started here soon.
I started training here a few months ago and it has been terrific! Professor Jamil, Professor John, and Coach Scott are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The students have a wide variety of ages and skill levels and I can learn, be pushed, be challenged, and be encouraged depending on how the day on the mats goes. I can’t recommend this gym highly enough!!
The best gym within 100 miles. I was a beginner looking for a gym to start out at and they made me feel very welcome. All the coaches and professors take a personal interest in every one of one of their members. Well worth my money and time.
The instructors here are amazing! Very friendly and professional. All around awesome environment.
My kids love Gracie Barra, the professors and coaches. The adult program is awesome.
Outstanding facility, dedicated instructors and inclusive of all levels of learning
Professor Jamil and Instructor Stevan have a wealth of Jiu Jitsu knowledge that you won't find anywhere else. I have learned so much from these two guys over years. I am really excited for the future of this school. Their mat space is clean, cushioned and huge besides college wrestling rooms I don't remember ever seeing a facility this expansive. I look forward to getting in some awesome training here.....Osss!!!!
If you are thinking of trying classes here, just go ahead and schedule a class. This place is a real gem! I began going to learn some Jiu Jutsu and as a woman, I can say that I have never felt out of place even when I am the only woman there. Prof. Jamil is easy to understand and ensures that your are safe and learning while in his classes. I have learned so much since I started and am actually making friends with class mates (which is nice since I am not from the area originally). Kelly has now started holding Barre classes here also, and they will kick your butt in a good way! She is an excellent teacher who makes sure you have good form in order to get the most out of your class. On top of that, she’s just a very nice person. The facilities are amazing! The mats and restrooms are always clean. The bathroom facilities here are huge with changing areas inside each and showers! I love being able to go to Jiu jitsu and roll around on mats, shower, change back into my day clothes and resume my busy life outside the gym doors as if I hadn’t even sweated that day. I am also told there is still more to come! Since they are brand new, they are still rennovating a space to make a weight room and will soon offer child care!
Great school. Amazing teachers. Bring your kids to build discipline and confidence. Be aware, some of the parents drive and park carelessly in this lot, and they may endanger your small children. Keep them close.
Fine Gym I suppose, but they will get you stuck in a contract. Was a member for half a year. Due to an injury and life events, couldn't participate much and still billed me extra months after cancelling. Not cool. I would avoid doing business here. Plenty of other great locations in the area.
DO NOT give this company your credit card information. The staff are talented and very pleasant, the trainers are very passionate and patient with the kids. They would get a 5 star rating from me for that. However I am giving them a bad review because I have called them multiple times since my son had to discontinue in February for a serious health issue that occurred abruptly (he needed surgery for a tumor). I had called them at that time to inform them and to cancel ongoing classes. However, they have continued to charge me monthly since then. The manager has not called back, and I had to refute the charges with my credit card company. Do NOT give this unethical organization your credit card to charge automatically.
Initially i was excited to try out jiu jitsu for the first time so I gave this place a shot. Came in and tried out the facility for 1 day and decided to join. I paid $156 for the first month and they said that it's a 1 year commitment but that I can cancel anytime... That seemed sketchy to me but I wanted to try out a new sport so I signed anyways... Should have listened to my gut. On my first week, I suffered an ankle injury there and was unable to put any pressure on it. So I did what any logical person would do and canceled to not waste my money. I was nice enough to not even ask for a refund for the initial $156 since I was only there for a week and I got injured. All I asked was for my account to be canceled and no more charges obviously. I trusted them. Well the next month I see that I got charged another $156... So that's $312 for getting injured in their facility. I thought, hmm maybe this was a mistake and they can just refund the extra $156 they weren't supposed to Charge. WRONG. They refused to give me the other $156 back. They don't care if you get injured or if you have to move or if you decide you don't have time. When you sign, they're going to take your money if you like it or not. I will not be suprised if they do it again to me next month. Lastly I would like to say that professor Jamil and all the other trainers there were awesome and nice people. This was not something they did but rather the billing company. If you don't plan on being there for a year however, save yourself the time, stress and money. Don't make the same mistake I made.
