Passing through on a family vacation from UK. Had a class with these guys tonight. If there were more than 5 stars they would have them hands down. Great bunch of super friendly respectful guys. Emerson Souza's BJJ is an amazing place. We enrolled our son 3 months ago and I must say my husband and I are very pleased! Emerson and the other coaches are phenomenal - they are very hands on and they do help build the children's self confidence and self discipline. The best part of it is, when you become a member, you're not just a client you're a family!
Emerson Souza BJJ is a wonderful place. My child can be shy, and I wanted to help bolster his confidence and foster his mental and physical growth. At the same time, I wanted him to be in an encouraging environment. I could not be happier with Emerson and the other coaches. They do a great job teaching discipline, strength, and respect-- all with kindness and a lot of fun. The price is also VERY reasonable compared to many martial arts academies. I have been interested in trying bjj for a while, having played soccer my entire life & having never done any kind of martial arts before I can’t believe I found such a great place. Great vibe, great instructors, awesome classmates. Now my 7 yr old & 5 yr old are also rolling with coach Emerson as well and love every second of it. 😎 🤙🏾
Emerson’s gym is an incredible place to train Jiu Jitsu. I came in as a beginner with no experience but I would recommend this place to all skill levels. The place is very clean and everyone is welcoming and friendly. Emerson teaches most of the classes so you get to learn from a world champion with decades of experience. You can learn a ton from your training partners as well, everyone wants to see each other improve, its a great training environment here. Signing up here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
My two boys, now ages 10 and 5, have been attending Emerson Souza BJJ for a little over a year and they LOVE it! Emerson is a world champion and an amazing instructor. Emerson is patient, but commanding. He is fun, but thoroughly trains these kids to do and master complex moves. He is genuinely concerned about how these kids approach life in general. He instills patience, discipline, hard work and respect. Emerson brings these ideals and fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu into their everyday lives. From building relationships, working hard in school, respecting rules set by your parents and your teachers, helping out at home to diffusing potential conflicts. He has had a real impact on my boys, who look forward to seeing their coaches and friends, every time they go to class. And not only him, but all of his instructors have the same amazing qualities. It really is like a family.
Great school! I've had my son enrolled here for about a year and a half now and it's been a great experience for him. It builds character and he's learning a skill, an art that he'll keep for life. Emerson and his coaches here are all top notch, they know how to keep the kids intrigued and engaged. Not only is it a great school but they are also very involved and active in the community.

My kids and I joining Emerson Souza BJJ was the best decision we made in regards to Martial Arts. My kids; boy 6, girl 10, have been having an awesome time learning the craft of Brazilian JiuJitsu, while also making great friends. I have enjoyed training with World Champion Emerson Souza, and at the same time gaining strength and losing fat. I would recommend this for anyone that wants a fun way to get fit and learn martial arts.
I was enrolled at Emerson’s for a few month before I relocated to Delaware. The environment there was sooo inviting and Emerson himself never made you feel rushed or like you were part of any ranking system at all. The regular guys there were so kind to me and pushed me in such a positive way I wanted to keep going no matter how tired I was. Emerson gave recognition where it was due; ie. when he saw that you were working hard. He even noticed that I had loss a good amount of weight and became more agile and stronger, just all around positive. No pressure to compete but pressure to be the best you! I genuinely miss this great group even though it was short live but I will never forget Emerson’s and anytime I go back to NY I will make it a point of duty to stop by and say hello
Best jiu jitsu place on the planet. Everyone is super helpful and supportive. Great people, great atmosphere and all of the instructors are knowledgeable, patient and proficient.

Emerson's dedication is incredible. It has changed my life on so many levels. The class atmosphere is more then I could have expected, comeradery and no egos. At 46 years old this is the greatest challenge I've taken on.

Emerson Souza teaches every class! They have yoga, bjj, muay thai, and one on one fitness training if requested. Facilities have shower, gym, locker room and two floors fully mated and containing pads. Highly recommended place to train that is very family friend and competition oriented. 2 - 6 blackbelts are always training and helping out beginners!
Summary: Emerson Souza Academy is a great place to train. As a long time practitioner of other arts, Emerson is familiar with both the technique and the subtle aspects of jujitsu. He is a living embodiment that you don't need to be 7 feet tall & have huge muscle to protect yourself. That form, structure, technique, and yielding to resistance provide the formula for success. Bottom line, If I was in NY I would be training here, I would also recommend it to my friends. Let me start by saying I do not work here. I trained with Emerson 10 years ago prior to moving out of state. I was back in NY for over a month and wanted to train BJJ while in town. I trained a total of 16 nights while in town and this review is based on that. Emerson, The Sensei: Emerson is building a family at the Academy with excellent jujitsu practitioners. The environment is to learn, to practice, to train hard. By this I mean 7 ten min rounds but NOT where you're just trying to tap tap tap everyone you roll with BUT you really get to LEARN by getting to position, trying the move and the other guy can escape. Emerson said one night, "you know if you got the move, no point in making them tap, we are family. Keep moving so they learn the escape, let each other learn, this is how you can train for hours. If someone gets hurt that is part of our family we all lose, jujitsu losses." He is right. The Students of the Academy: Like most martial arts schools, the new guy is always looked at as a new comer. What makes Emerson's school unique is that the time I was a new comer, to the time when I feel they accepted me was very short. In my own opinion it's always a journey to earn the respect of your fellow dojo brothers, but next time i'm back in NY I won't feel shy about showing up again to train. I feel like part of the family. What was a pleasant surprise was that each belt level truly represented the next level of skill. This says to me Emerson does not just hang out belts, but students are required to meet standards. Which in my opinion is desperately needed in the martial arts community.
There are people who open up businesses to only make money and then there are people who love what they do so much they need to share it with others. Emerson is not only an unbelievable teacher, champion, if you train there you become family. I must also say he is an honest business man. He cares about your progress. This is definitely one of the best personal decisions I have made for myself and I'm hooked. If your interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu This is the school for you!

Professor Emerson is not only a World Champion in BJJ and a wealth of knowledge, he is also an outstanding teacher who is always on the mats improving his students. The staff and student body have high level Jiu Jitsu but are very friendly and all around great people. No meat-head mentalities here! Highly recommend!
Observed a free trial class for kids. Good instructors and nice environment. Clean and follow social distance protocols. If you kids are ready and able to follow direction, it's a great class.
