Love training at this gym. There’s great coaches and training partners for all skill levels no matter what your athletic goals are.
I dropped in for the day and the Professor was fantastic and extremely welcoming. The class had great instruction and tough rolls. Great spot to train if you’re local or just in town!
What a fantastic gym, I stopped by right as class started. They spent a few seconds making me feel welcome then let me join the fun. I train all over, and I gotta say... They got some good jiujitsu!
These guys are legit. Good instruction, great rolls, and the gym’s got some awesome people. If you’re in the area, I’d definitely drop by and check these guys out.
I stopped by while traveling. This is a great club with a great group of guys here. I highly recommend stopping by if your in town.
Layton and his team are excellent. I’ve been training BJJ for 3 years now and drop in his gym once a month to train. His classes are well organized and everyone is very welcoming. Layton is the real deal in BJJ and gives top notch instruction. If you’re in his area and looking for a gym to join this is definitely the place.
Honestly one of the best and welcoming gyms I’ve had the pleasure to attend. Wonderful coaches that take their time with you and don’t mind going over moves again, I can not recommend these guys enough
Professor Robert is a great instructor! He's always willing to share his knowledge and break down techniques so simple that anyone can learn it. Professor Layton is an awesome instructor as well. He makes learning jiu-jitsu very fun. Everyone here is professional and friendly! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a gym to train at!
I dropped in for a class while I was out of town and my only complaint is that I could only go once. Coach Layton and all of the students were exceptionally welcoming and I learned a lot. I highly recommend if you are in town. I will definitely be back.
This Jiu-Jitsu gym is outstanding! The instructors are highly knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. The facility is well-maintained, providing a clean and safe environment for training. The community is supportive and inclusive, making it a great place for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Highly recommended!
A really awesome place to train for kids and adults alike. Everyone is very welcoming and Professor Layton and the other instructors are extremely knowledgeable and care about your training. A clean and safe place to train.
I’m in town for a few days and wanted to find a place to train. Everyone was super cool and very welcoming. Class was very professional the place seemed clean. I would definitely recommend!
Great school, great customer service, just make sure you read the contract fully before signing up. Can’t wait to come back to train with these awesome people.
Muy buen lugar, buenos maestros siempre explican todo con detalle
As a combat Veteran: looking for another place to beat the normy globo gym. I stumbled upon BJJ. Tried the three free days. The second day I was hooked. Seven months later I can see a huge difference in my confidence, cardiovascular fitness, and mental health improvement.
I stopped by as a drop in for a few days, everyone was super super friendly and genuinely excited to have people and and work with them. Very good environment, good coaches, overall one of the best experiences I’ve had outside of my home gym! If you are in the area you should 100% give them a look!
From the very beginning, Professor Layton and his staff have made me and my son feel welcome. It was a new experience for both of us, but the environment here is so calming that it made us want to come back. The members train hard and tough but safety is always emphasized first. You can feel confident having your family train here!
I did a drop in class today and everyone was welcoming and nice. The coaching here is top notch, and whether you are a beginner or have some experience, you will have excellent training here. I can't wait to come back and train again. The facility was clean and the mats are well taken care of as well, which is something I appreciate and always look for.
AMAZING place to train, clean mats, great vibes, and AWESOME coaching!
I’m only giving it 5 stars because that’s all it would allow. I’d give 10 or more if I could. If you’re interested in Jiu Jitsu, come here. Even if you’re not in Cherokee, it’s worth the drive. Every single person I’ve met here is incredibly kind and welcoming. I was worried being a new guy not knowing anything that the more experienced guys wouldn’t want to train with me much because I’d hold them back. I found the exact opposite! Everyone here remembers being brand new like me and are so helpful and patient. Professor Layton, and all of the coaches I’ve met, are incredibly welcoming. They make you feel comfortable the second you walk in the door. This is such a great environment to train in. Get your kids in there too. I’ve been able to watch some of the kids classes and they do a great job. Seriously, get in here and try it out, you won’t be disappointed. It’s not every day that you can get an incredible workout while learning something that can literally save your life or your family’s I can’t wait for my next class and I can’t recommend Cherokee Fight Sports enough!
Great place! Thanks for letting me come in and roll in open mat today. Everyone was very nice and it’s a great atmosphere.
If you are looking to try jiu jitsu or you just need a new jiu jitsu gym, Canton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the place! It has a family environment with all experience levels of men, women, boys and girls. Me and both of my sons have had a great time and have learned something every time we walk in the door!
I have been training at Canton BJJ for 10 months now. It is definitely the best gym in the area! If you have ever considered trying jiu jitsu this is the place to go!! Great environment to learn and amazing coaches. They are incredible with the children’s classes. My son has been training the same amount of time. Coming in and trining jiu jitsu will help you immensely both on and off the mats. This gym is for everyone. If you are looking to Improve yourself and learn the art of jiu jitsu or if you want to compete this is the place to learn. Multiple classes that work for different schedules throughout the day. Both gi and nogi training are offered. Free three day trial and affordable pricing.
The instruction here is awesome! All the coaches are engaging and really want to help you get better. The atmosphere this creates spreads to the students and helps make it an amazing place to train. Everyone is very approachable and always willing to answer questions, making it the kind of place where you want to talk to people on and off the mat.
My son (now 12) has been going to Canton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over four years. Coach Layton on his team does a fantastic job of pushing kids to be better and still have fun. He loves to go - still four years later. He has great self-confidence, and not to mention he is crazy strong! If you have a “busy” kid, then Jiu Jitsu is something you may want to try.
Top quality jiu jitsu and striking. Awesome instructors who understand what martial arts are all about. Always a welcoming environment. No one has an ego.
Very good vibes and awesome coach! Edit: Two years later and I still love the program!
Great gym with a friendly atmosphere, moves were taught well and Instructor made sure to help areas where students were struggling. Looking forward to coming back
Stopped in while in town for a couple days not sure what to expect, from start to finish absolute great instruction walkthrough on fundamentals and incredible group of people. I will absolutely be back and encourage more people I know in the area to come out and try a class. Thank you Canton and Brazilian jiu jitsu for a great time!
The coaches here are both knowledgeable and friendly. Plenty of mat space and a good coach to student ratio. They are also great with kids and have a large kids program.
I dropped in for a class and an open mat session while visiting the area. The instruction is great, and the people are very friendly and welcoming. I’d recommend this gym to anyone looking for a great spot to train.
I was visiting from out of town and dropped in to train throughout the week. They welcomed me in like a long time friend that they haven't seen in awhile. Top notch instructor who takes his time pointing out minor details in a technique and then observers every student drilling to ensure that they each have a firm grasp of it. They are also fantastic with the kids class. 6 out of 5 stars!
Great gym to train at! Stopped by while visiting family in Georgia and got some sparring rounds and rolls in. I would definitely recommend! Coaches and students were friendly and helpful. Glad I was able to train on my trip 👍💪
I attended a funeral this morning in Macedonia, and @fightsports.cherokee is right around the corner. They have a midday Saturday open mat, so I dropped in after leaving the cemetery. I almost always have a gi in the car anyway:) I can’t say enough great things about this academy! Professor Layton Wilcox and his whole crew were extremely hospitable and absolute technicians on the mat. Thank y’all so much for making me feel welcome … it was an honor to train with you guys this morning!
Everyone that trains here is super friendly. Professor Layton is one of the most patient and best coaches I’ve ever had. Great vibes and an awesome place to learn “The Gentle Art”. I also recommend the striking class.
My son really enjoyed his first class. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
I could not recommend this place enough. I was visiting the area for work and dropped in for a couple classes and was very impressed. Whether you are looking to start Jiu Jitsu or you have been doing it for a while, they have people at every level. The coaches and professors were very nice and gave out great advice to make sure you fully understood what they were teaching. I was only there a couple days but they made me feel like I was part of the gym.
Layton is a certified ninja and a straight boss
Professor Layton is a down to earth, mature and professional. I've joined this team a year ago and I'm amazed at the talent that keeps joining us. This gym is for everyone, competitive or not. Professor Layton will learn your rolling style and introduce you to multiple techniques that will benefit your style. If you are in the area you need to get over here. If you are unsure or if you've never done any martial arts, you need to get over here. Take advantage of the trial and I'm guaranteeing you that you'll become part of our team.
This place has changed my life. When I walked in the door on the first day, I thought I was joining a gym. I came to find out that I was not just joining a gym, but a team, and that I would be expected to do my best and to push myself, but in return, my teammates would give me more than anyone or anything else has in my life. We treat each other with love and respect, and push one another to be more than we thought we were capable of being. Every member, from the head coach to the higher belts, even down to the kids, treats you as if your success were their success, because it is. As a final point, I would remind anyone considering undertaking the sport of jiu-jitsu that it is a COMBAT SPORT, and comes with certain inherent risks. Though we all do our best to avoid them, injuries and accidents do happen, and it is absolutely essential that you be aware of that going in. If the potential risks outweigh the potential rewards for you, the jiu-jitsu is probably not an appropriate endeavor for you.
Excellent atmosphere and coaching. Professor Layton is a true professional and teacher. I’ve had plenty of instruction in different fields throughout my life, however, Layton is the best coach I’ve ever had. Not only do I train here, my children do as well. I highly recommend anyone to try out this gym, you won’t regret it!!!!
This gym is one of the most welcoming gyms I have been to. As a BJJ practitioner for 5+ years, I would recommend this place especially for newer students because of the strong mentorship I have seen from the higher belts. I also have seen several kids classes from the sidelines and I must say, they are some of the most technically sound kids I have ever seen! Layton has done a great job in his kids classes and I would recommend this gym to any parent. I did end up leaving because of a billing issue, but I don’t believe it to be malicious, just a misunderstanding. I know there are a lot of moving parts to running a gym, and the legal stuff can be tricky for a lot of them, but I hope that they can reassess the way their contracts and plans are advertised so they are a bit more clear and miscommunications not as likely. All in all, a fantastic gym with fantastic people!
This is a great jiu jitsu academy for anyone trying to get out their comfort zone and learn a new skill. I have now been traing for 2 years at Canton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and theres always great vibes. Personally, I am a slow learner but Professor Layton works with me and has helped me improve my jiu jitsu game. Over all a well run academy, with a great professor.10/10 would recommend anyone interested in trying it out!
This gym is my home away from home. I walked in at about 240lbs and slimmed down to under 200 now. This is all thanks to the hardworking and supportive environment created and cultivated by our coach Layton Wilcox. I cannot thank him enough for the knowledge that he has instilled in me over the two years that I have trained here, and holding me to a higher standard of myself and my potential. Pushing myself to compete and now picking up weights for the first time in my life is all thanks to him and the amazing people I train with everyday. Joining this gym has been the greatest and hardest thing I have done in my entire life. I’ve gained the confidence and skills that come from learning and training a martial art and also an amazing team that feels like a family.
Great people, good environment to be around, nothing but support and hard work from everyone at the academy. Coach Layton has effected my life and the way I look at life as a person. He is always looking out for me and my best interest at all times. Can’t enough thank everyone here for helping me become better!!
Great atmosphere and awesome coaching. I've been training here since December. Coach Layton really cares about each and every student and wants you to succeed on whatever goal you have whether it be weight loss, self-defense, or just doing it for a hobby.
Layton is a great guy always respectful, he has a beautiful facility and run a great program. I've had the pleasure of watching him compete and getting to train with him.if you're in the area it's a must to stop in and see him.
I’m 52 and was living a sedentary life. Work. Kids etc. I HATE to exercise. Past 4 years Dr. getting on me that all my labs were a little high. Never before thought of doing BJJ. 4 months ago I called up Canton BJJ / Fight Sports Cherokee and decided to give it a try to get in shape. Great atmosphere. Great bunch of people to train with. Layton, his instructors and students of all levels took me in and I’ve been progressing and learning every time I go. Had my 2019 physical last Wednesday. All labs are in the ideal range ! I’m loving learning the art much more than I expected. And I’m quickly getting in shape without feeling like I’m exercising at all. Thinking about it? Do it. I wish I had started much earlier.
I dropped in for an open mat here and have nothing but good things to say. The moment I walked in, everyone in the gym introduced themselves to me and made me feel welcome. My training partners were courteous but intense. The head instructor spent half an hour chatting with me before and after training and seems like a great dude. I really appreciate gym owners like Layton that make positive contributions to the jiu jitsu community by being warm and welcoming and training killer students. Thanks!
My son has learned so much and has become more confident while having fun here. Coach Layton is great with both kids and adults. Highly recommend you check out his free trial week and see if you like it.
I came across this gym during an open mat that I was invited to participate in. Having limited to no experience in Ju jitsu besides some basic army combatatives, I came back to this gym for some instruction. Layton Wilcox and his training method were superb. I would recommend this Ju jitsu gym to anyone with kids teenagers and of course adults like myself. Everyone at Canton Brazilian Ju Jitsu was respectful and patient whilst promoting proper technic and endurance and creating a great atmosphere for training.
This is an amazing gym to go to. The atmosphere is great and everyone is open to learning and help teach each other. It feels like a family and is run very well.
I am a 43-year-old husband and father to three active kids. I grew up playing team sports and have continued to stay fit as I have aged. The demands of my life have kept me from really being able to play a ton of team sports, and I began to search for something that would fit into my busy life. I was listening to a podcast and heard some guys talking about BJJ. I researched it and decided to try a class. Like all of us, I did a Google search and found several options near my home. I called a few and landed on trying Canton BJJ for my first class. I have been around the block a time or two in my life, and very little gets me uncomfortable. Let me tell you, the idea of trying a class was terrifying for some reason. I dropped in, and the group was so kind and welcoming. They said things to me like "we all have had our first day" Layton and Monica we very attentive and made sure I felt as comfortable as they could. I finished the class and had mixed emotions. On the one hand, it was hard. On the other hand, if something is hard and exposes you, then it might be just the thing you need to grow. I kept showing back up, and I have since developed a passion for BJJ through the work of Professor Layton and the team at Canton BJJ. I train at least two times per week and sometimes three. I am exposed every single time and learn a ton about myself everytime. A few months in I was awarded my first stripe and it was gratifying. If you are interested, you should try it and if you try it, you should know that the people here will welcome you.
I’m very new to BJJ. From the first day I walked in, to the end of the first week. I have not stopped learning. Everyone here is so welcoming, friendly, humble. Not only do I think people are here to learn BJJ, but you will have more fun than I can put into words. To any person, size, shape, color, anything. This place is for You. The coach, Layton Wilcox has tons of knowledge, and he has no problem sharing and helping everyone. Not just him, but the other advanced belts help out newcomers and even the kids share information. Do yourself a favor and invest in yourself today and make better choices.
Awesome group of people who are welcoming, encouraging, and provide a fun learning atmosphere for kids and adults. Definitely need to come check this place out!
I've been training here for close to a year. Layton and his wife Monica have changed my life completely. My first day I was in terrible shape I weighed around 315lbs 10 months later I'm walking around at 245lbs. If you are looking for sincerely good people to train look no further.
Small upcoming school. Classes are small so you can recieve excellent training from experts. Fun family friendly atmosphere.
I want to start by saying how grateful I am for all the mentoring I received from the higher belts during my six months at Fight Club Sports. I enjoyed my training there all the way until the last day. Then things turned bad quick. A little background about myself; I am currently a one stripe white belt. On the day of the incident I was training with my training partner when he had a question. The instructor came over to demonstrate the move on me for my partner to see. When the instructor demonstrated the move on me he ended up breaking my collarbone. Unfortunately it wasn’t a simple break. It was a compound displaced fracture that ultimately required surgery. The instructor who, is also the owner, (a black belt who has been training since 2008) promptly took me to the ER and was kind enough to call a few times over the next few days. On the day of my surgery he called me and said that he would help pay part of my $5,300 deductible on a $32,000 surgery. A week later I called the owner and asked him if he had Personal Liability Insurance (which many other BJJ gyms have) he checked and said that he didn’t. This insurance protects the owner from this very circumstance. All he would have had to do is pay a deductible and I wouldn’t be in the situation I am in. On a personal note if this injury was caused by another student I would be hesitant to except anything from them but the more I thought about it I honestly feel like as a black belt with 12 years of training that it should be made clear where the student will end up while demonstrating the move- which wasn’t done. Additionally as a business owner he should have had Personal Liability Insurance- to protect himself and his students. It has been six weeks since my surgery and the phone calls have long stopped and of course I haven’t received one red cent. I never expected him to pay all my deductible but would have been satisfied (and returned to Fight Club Sports) if he would have paid half. To be fair three weeks after my surgery he did call and offer a free membership for a period of time but after several weeks of not hearing anything I did not feel like it was made in good faith. If he was sincere with his offer why didn’t he make it sooner? If he did I probably would have taken it. I love the sport of BJJ and I am not done ! I wish everyone at Fight Club Sports Canton the best but it is only fair that current and new members know the reason for my abrupt departure.
