  Had a free 1 on 1 session with coach João I’m not even joking it is the most relaxing sport I’ve ever done. I couldn’t stop smiling every time I learned something new. I’m officially starting next month. I’ve already signed up for a membership, and it also includes access to other martial arts classes. Coach David and João are really friendly people. I felt very invited and comfortable. I cannot wait to learn and meet new people.

  Whether you have already started your Brazilian jiu jitsu journey but looking for a new gym or even if you are looking to start with zero martial arts experience, from day one you will be welcomed into a great atmosphere. Busy schedule?? The amount of classes the timetable offers from morning to evening is fantastic. As for the coaching which is led by the head of Apex Professor David, the high standards, the knowledge, little details and adjustments, it is all there. Apex BJJ achievements will vouch for that itself. So whether you are looking to keep active and fit, learn self defense or even test yourself on the competition scene, I’d recommend popping through the door.

  If you’re looking for a place to train in North London, honestly, look no further. I’ve dropped into a fair few gyms over the years, but Apex BJJ in Finsbury Park is easily the best. The first thing you’ll notice is that it’s completely ego-free. BJJ can be a bit intimidating if you’ve never done it before, but the atmosphere here is spot on. It’s welcoming, inclusive, and everyone is genuinely there to help each other improve. The instruction is top-tier. The coaches don’t just show you a move and leave you to struggle; they break down the mechanics and the "why" behind every transition. The crowd is a proper mix of locals, professionals, and serious competitors. It’s a diverse group, which makes for a great training environment. It’s just a solid group of people to hang out with. There’s a real sense of community. One of the biggest wins for me is how they handle the timetable. If you’ve got a hectic job or a life that doesn't fit the standard 9-to-5, you’ll actually be able to get your training in here. They offer a brilliant mix of early morning, noon sessions and late evening classes, so there’s always a way to squeeze in a roll. What’s even more impressive is their dedication during major holidays and Bank Holidays. While most gyms shut shop and leave you to your own devices, Apex usually keeps the lights on with special sessions or open mats. I’m honestly just so grateful to have had the chance to train here for as long as I have; and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to call my home mat.

  I can’t recommend Apex BJJ highly enough. Coach David Cartwright is a world level athlete, yet somehow still incredibly friendly and approachable, which feels illegal. He genuinely wants everyone to improve and has created an environment where questions are encouraged. The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask, although asking it might still remind you that David is much better at jiu jitsu than you. I first met David in Portugal and was very reluctant to leave my previous club but I have absolutely no regrets. The level of training and the techniques taught here are the best I have ever been shown. Everything is detailed, effective, and explained in a way that even I can understand, which is impressive considering I am 37 years old and my body is held together mostly by stubbornness, tape and bad decisions. The gym is excellent value for money and has great facilities including showers and separate male and female changing rooms. It is also very easy to get to, being just a short walk from Finsbury Park station, which is ideal when your knees are negotiating with you after class. They also run kids classes, so children can start learning proper jiu jitsu while the rest of us are trying to remember where our hamstrings went. If you are serious about improving your jiu jitsu, training at a high level and having a laugh while doing it Apex BJJ is an outstanding place to train

  Really great gym. I first got started here doing the Sunday open mats, I’ve been a member for over 3 months now & it feels like home. High quality coaching & a really diverse level of students. I’m really happy with my progress here and have yet to experience a bad day of training. Really recommend giving this place a go.
