Highly recommend 5 dragons. I cant say enough amazing things about ALL the staff . They are all so wonderful with my 5 year old son . We came from a bad experience with gymnastics as my son is autistic and has a hard time following directions but 5 dragons has truly welcomed him with open arms and made us feel right at home . Safe to say we found our safe place.
We have been attending 5 Dragons for sometime now and the kids absolutely love it! We have seen leadership skills develop and confidence build in our children. It’s a wonderful community and the academy itself has great teachers that really take the time to teach the kids. We would highly recommend this academy if you’re looking for something for your child to engage in.

My son has been doing Parkour at 5 dragons for about 6 months now. He is absolutely loving it there and has grown so much confidence in a short time. We decided to have his birthday party there and it was awesome. All the kids had so much fun! They did some parkour, dodge ball, and nerf wars.
We are absolutely loving 5 Dragons. Its my daughters favorite sport and she is growing in so many ways both mentally and physically. My 5 year old son is so shy and meak.. he couldn't touch a fly before these classes. Tonight he had his first win in pushing out of the ring. His strength and confidence has grown immensely in a few short months. Our kids make their beds, do their own laundry etc. all to meet their goals. The teachers are incredible and so dedicated. We recommend this to any child!
My 8 year old has been taking karate for almost a year here. It has exceeded all expectations. The staff and Sensei are flexible and supportive. Always figuring out ways to improve and keep the kids engaged. My son loves it. I love that parents are encouraged to watch and even participate, at times.
I would highly recommend 5 dragons. My 9 year old daughter has learned a lot about respect, manners , discipline and self esteem. The school is run by a great group of people under the supervision of sensei Rick. He is always close by and has a way of making the kids laugh while also teaching them valuable lessons. I also have felt and seen families being supported by Rick and his staff. You will often find him engaged with parents helping find solutions to challenges that occur beyond the walls of the school. 5 dragons genuinely cares about the kids that attend the school. I can't say enough good things about 5 Dragons. My daughter has attended classes for close to a year and I have always been impressed. There are many extra fun events always happening. I enrolled my three kids at Five Dragons about ten years ago. Martial arts has always been an important part of my life, so as soon as my boys were old enough, I wanted them to experience its benefits. Both my sons have attended 5 Dragons for years now, at first it was to see how they would handle it and to see if they would like martial arts! As we all, as parents, try to give our children as much exposure to as many different activities as possible to hone in on their true interests and abilities! So that said, what was more a test of interest in something turned into a love for martial arts and a drive to succeed at all they both do! They are now 7 and almost 12 and I credit their time in the dojo as one of the the biggest contributing factors to both boys becoming far more disciplined in their daily lives. Also the staff is exceptional when working with any type of child! Let’s face it not one child is the same and some need a bit more structure than others just to accomplish day to day tasks, the owner, Sensei Rick, has taken care of them and has been working hard to sculpt each child according to THEIR personal needs and developmental style! Its been a month of Wows! We started in Jan 2024. My husband and I were looking for something that our son can do outside of the house and school. We wanted him active. He is very much a gamer. But we want him to continue to be a better person and a leader. In the past month, every Monday and Friday is just a “wow” kinda nights. 5 Dragons has been nothing but WOW! We, husband and I, both work as a some kind of first responders, along with a customer service job. The customer service, caring and in person feeling is beyond what we could ever imagine. Actually inspires me as a parent more. You feel more like part of a big caring group than a number. I check in with my son to see what he thinks every week, “he is beyond happy”. Always asking when he can come back. He doesn't even realize he is working out. He has been so successful and happy we join for years to come.
5 Dragons has made a world difference in our daughter's life. Our daughter joined 5 Dragons in 2020. During Covid, 5 Dragons gave some structure during a chaotic time. The instructors truly see each child. Over the years, 5 Dragons has helped our child see the rewards hard work brings. The easy to see rewards are skills developing and refining. My son started karate at 5 Dragons Martial Arts Salisbury in May 2022. He has come so far in what he has learned. He has a lot of struggles and may have a rough day here or there, but he gets right back up and tries again and again. He loves to interact with his peers. Since starting karate, his confidence has built up, he is building strength in his muscles and mind. We love his never give up attitude, no matter how tired he might be during class, he continues to work hard. Way to go, we are so very proud of you.

In the beginning I was very skeptical about bringing my autistic son to learn martial arts. He was very scared and was very reluctant to attend class. Sensei Rick assured me my son is in the right place. Sensei Rick started my son off with private classes to build a personal rapport with my son. Fast forward six months. My son has learned valuable life skills. He’s no longer afraid of being around other kids. He looks forward to attending 5 Dragons every week. Many thanks to sensei Rick and his great staff for being super patient with my son.

We love 5 dragons!!! Every child should build good foundations to pave the road for the rest if their lives. I signed my two boys up almost two years ago with that thought. My 2 sons have been students at 5 Dragons for over 6 years and we all love being a part of the 5D family. Sensei Rick has figured out a way to teach in a format that is fun, yet still instilling the seriousness and dedication it takes to master Kyokushin karate. We have been at 5 dragons for 6 years now and it is a huge part of our lives. To say that 5 Dragons is a family is an understatement.. our boys have essentially grown up here and are always surrounded by positivity and amazing role models. They are learning so many amazing life skills such as respect, discipline , how to listen, how to speak publicly as well as how to take care of their bodies! Recently our oldest has started to compete and watching his development in setting and achieving goals and having the confidence to put himself out there has been amazing! And our youngest who struggles with social/emotional developmental delays is making huge strides in learning how to deal with unexpected outcomes and tough times all with the support of the instructors, families and other children cheering him on! We are very happy that 5D is part of our “village”!
Very customer service orientated. Went above and beyond for families during covid to make everyone safe and accommodated. Facility is great, and comfortable for all. We felt welcome by everyone since day one! My son was super shy but that didn't last! Sensei Rick and the entire staff - have been great at recognizing when kids need a little help, more of a push or just to have fun on a given day. My son has been training for a year and he has grown skills I didn't think would shine through because of Karate. He's more confident, speaks up and has a healthy outlet for all his energy. I'm a better father being involved, going to each class, praising his accomplishments and reinforcing him when he has an off day. Karate has made us closer, which is amazing. 5 stars!
Our son has been going here for two years now. The instructors are great with kids and provide a fun way to teach strength, leadership, confidence, skill building, and so much more. They’re always willing to be flexible and find what works best for each child and family. Really glad we found this place and they’ve become a strong part of our community. Sensi Rick and his team at 5 dragons have made a very positive contribution to my sons’ development, in particular their confidence in public speaking. When I first considered martial arts for my sons, I did not expect there to be such a holistic approach to their development through the vehicle of karate but, this is exactly what 5 dragons offers. My sons look up to the instructors in 5 dragons and in them they have very strong role models. Wouldn’t recommend it highly enough.
When I began going to 5 Dragons, I found a fantastic group of people who are very supportive and inspire me to do better. I am attending classes here so when I begin my career in Corrections I will know how to defend and protect myself and my fellow officers.

We joined 5D about a year ago & it was the best decision we could have made for our son. Sensei worked closely with us to create a home/school connection where our son quickly learned that he had a community outside of home that supports, pushes, & nurtures his needs. We are grateful to all of the instructors at 5D!!!
After my son's Taekwondo School closed, we went looking for a new place to go. Little did we know, 5 years ago, that we would end up at 5 Dragons and learning a new martial art. He earned his 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo just before his old school closed. My son willingly put on a white belt for the first time in 9 years. At 5 Dragons I have watched him grow so much as a young man and now teacher. He was embraced with open arms and now is a Black Belt in Karate. Martial Arts has given him manners, respect, responsibility, discipline...etc I could go on and on. He has learned that young kids are cool and now enjoys Teaching them. Sensei Rick is always there to listen to parents concerns and to help kids grow. I know I am proud of the young man, Sempai Chase Knowles has become.
Awesome people exceptional facility/Dojo!! We signed our daughter up two years ago in October I believe. She had very little to no confidence, very shy, had trouble communicating with adults, her listening skills were not that great and she was very impulsive. I have seen so much change and a huge difference in her behavior and manners along woth much more. Sensei Rick and all the instructors treat everyone like family. It truly is a great place and im grateful that we have discovered it!

This was the best decision we have made for my step son. We have been going for a little over a year now. The strides we have made with his behavior, Communication, and his self esteem amaze me. The instructors are all so good with the kids. They take the time to spend with the kids, building them up. They say it takes a village to raise your kids and 5 Dragons are a huge part of our village.
My daughter is 3.5 years old and we signed her up for a 30 day trial with no karate experience. In the past with different types of classes we have tried she typically always gives us a hard time when leaving the house to go… (crying and wanting to stay home/quit) but not to 5 dragons! They have taught her discipline/ respect and fun all in such a short time and I couldn’t be happier. The studio itself is extremely clean and well equipped with exceptional teachers! We have decided to sign her up for future classes and are looking forward to the continued positive change we have already seen in her. My son started going here just a few months ago and absolutely loves it. The teachers are wonderful with the students and sensei works so well with each and every kid. My son looks forward to going to both of his classes every week. They keep the dojo very clean and always have the kids working towards being better. Treat others as you want to be treated, communication and respect are 3 of the main things they instill at the beginning of every class and through out. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself and my 4yo daughter. The teachers do an exceptional job teaching discipline, respect, and confidence through engaging martial arts training. I cannot say enough about the adult program. Very challenging, very rewarding. Most importantly, my daughter and I have been bonding more with home practice. Can’t wait to sign my youngest one up!

My daughters have recently started at 5Dragons and they have had nothing but great experiences. They really take the time with my youngest who really needs a lot of attention and they are so patient with her, giving one on one attention when needed instead of kicking her out for being too distracted or too hyper. My older daughter is learning self discipline, gaining self confidence, and looks forward to her classes every week. Sensei Rick always takes the time to show and explain to the students how and why to be humble, he encourages them to always try their hardest. If you have a child that wants to give up..or is depressed..or just plain lazy..this is a good place for them. Sensei Rick will not let them slip through the cracks. He understands kids, teens. He’s been very open about his past experiences and has said to me many times “ I will never give up on a kid..no matter what.” As a tired parent, especially after the last year, having someone on your side has been amazing. Something that really doesn’t exist much anymore. It has nothing to do with money; they genuinely care. Not an easy school. The kids have to show effort. But self esteem helps with that. Confidence. Not putting a child on the spot helps. One on one lessons make a big difference. If you are up front and honest about what you are looking for..they actually take the time to get to know your child.

My grandson became a student at the academy September 2019. I wanted to update my review from a few months after we started because we have been so thankful to be enrolled in the program. I do have to say Sensei Rick and his team not only teach the skills of Martial Arts, but they guide the kids to become healthy mind, body and soul as well. In this day and age of Electronics and Social Media it is refreshing to have the Academy teach core values and help build self esteem, respect and discipline. They teach skills outside of the realm such as public speaking. During the beginning of the Pandemic they worked tirelessly to create virtual classes which honestly was a blessing for us. Thank you 5 Dragons!!!
The childrens curriculum speaks for itself with the other reviews here. I am going to speak for the adult class.. I am a veteran and a current security professional and found that the adult program to be an excellent combination of cardio vascular conditioning and functional self defense training. I am new to the martial arts and felt welcomed by the community. Both me and my son enjoy our training and plan on being long time members.
We have been part of the 5 Dragons family for over 8 years. We have two children attending. Both have persevered and attained jr. grade black belt... a long, difficult AND rewarding goal! My children have come a long way with Sensei Rick. He has a way with kids that is rare. He developed trust, self esteem, confidence, public speaking, perseverance... the list goes on. As a parent, I watched from the sidelines for seven years. Finally I joined. I wish I had joined 8 years ago! What a great workout! Even as adults the self confidence, the ability to speak to a group, stamina for physical fitness and the camaraderie that 5 Dragons brings to the table are priceless. 10 STARS!
5 Dragons provides not only excellent karate instruction, but amazing life skills as well. My children love going to class. They not only learn the beautiful art of karate, but also how to be a leader, how to exude confidence, and the key life skills of communication, responsibility and perseverance. The staff is beyond supportive and kind. Great examples of how leadership and instruction should be. And Sensei and all his instructors and staff truly care about the students. We have been doing karate virtually with 5 dragons for the past few months. We just recently made the switch to doing in person classes. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this karate studio. They have gone above and beyond to make sure my girls were comfortable with the transition from our old karate studio and have shown so much devotion to their students. I’m so happy we made this switch and can’t wait to see my girls grow in their karate skills under the teaching of 5 dragons!
My family and I came from another school and found out about 5 Dragons in Salisbury because they were running live virtual karate classes on line. It took one class for us to know this was going to be our new school. When we were told we could finally go and take classes , we were excited but nervous to join a new school. As we entered 5 Dragons we were all greeted with such a warm welcome from their amazing staff. Even the students were very nice to us. We are learning so much. It's rare to find somewhere that truly and honestly cares to the level they do. The level of dedication to the students is beyond incredible. I feel that they put a investment in my child. They look to make him a successful person not just in self defense but in life. I have found since he has started the program it has boosted his self confidence. He looks forward to going to class everytime. There are a lot of choices out there but they will exceed your expectations. Please give them a chance to do so. You will not regret it.
Recently started a kickboxing class here and I don’t just like it, I love it! High intensity in thirty minutes in and out. New morning classes have been added and are a great way to start my day. The class is designed for all fitness levels and everyone is welcoming and friendly. I am very happy I found this class and can’t wait to see the progress I make over time. Thank you Sensei Rick for working with me and pushing me to help me reach my wellness goals.
Much thanks to Sensai Rick, & Sempai Ricky and all of the staff at 5D in Salisbury. Our son is a member of their new Parkour program. He finally found something that he’s passionate about. He goes four times a week and he enjoys every aspect of it. He started as a somewhat shy kid and couldn’t handle criticism. Each class he handles it better and is the one raising his hand to demonstrate instead of trying to avoid attention. I love the connections he has made with all of the students and the support they all show for each each other. They are having fun while learning respect and discipline. The program is helping them build strength physically and mentally! A+++++
We love 5 dragons martial arts. My son joined about 6 months ago and absolutely loves going. Sensei Rick is awesome with the students, its more than just karate. They learn all kinds of life skills. I also love that that he teaches full contact His helpers Sempai Ricky and Sempai Chase are great too, the kids love them. Can't forget all the new friends he has made as well. We just had our birthday party at 5 dragons. The children had a blast. Non stop action. Dodgeball/nerf wars/ parkour/ air trac and musical bags/and karate. My sons words ( my party was better than awesome ! ) will be booking again next year.
We were referred to 5 Dragons from a friend of ours about a year and a half ago. From the very first class, there was a expectation of discipline during all the drills. But, my son, who was 6 at the time and is 7 now, has a blast every time that he goes. His ability to be more patient and self disciplined at home has really improved. He has since moved up a class and is being challenged once again! I am looking for to getting my other 2 boys involved so that they can see the same results. As a newly enrolled student after a trial, my grandson is so excited to be part of this program. Just after 2 weeks I have already seen positive changes and a drive to become his best self. The Instructors teach at all different levels which help the newbies attain their goals and strive to reach higher. We look forward to building self confidence as well as skill.

I was very skeptical about sending my 4 year old twins to karate at such an early age. I’m very glad my wife talked me into it. Sensai Rick is amazing with all the kids. He somehow gets them to enjoy the hard work. Their behavior has improved dramatically. They get exercise, make new friends, and have a ton of fun.
5 Dragons is perhaps the cleanest, most spacious dojo I've ever been in, and Sensei Rick is the most honest and accommodating instructor I've ever met. My son is 3 years old and he absolutely loves the "Little Dragons" class, where the focus isn't on punching and kicking per se, but on discipline, listening, and following directions (which is exactly what all kids that age need to practice). The camaraderie among the students is remarkable, and I was so impressed by the instructors, assistants, facility and very reasonable pricing that I decided to enroll in the adult class - loving it thus far! Come see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
I used to take a child I babysat for YEARS to Sensei Ricks classes and I was amazed by the positive difference I saw in the child after, so I finally had a child of my own and decided to take her to 5 dragons as well, she’s 3 and has developmental delays, communication disorders and sensory processing issues .. and she caught on really quick during his classes with the ways he teaches and the activities they do.. by her 3rd class in she was doing things I never thought I would see!!!!! Bounce on an air track, follow a multi obstacle course, climb heights and more. She was able to overcome more in her 3rd class there than she was in special therapies. Sensei Rick always changes the class routine so none of the kids there look bored, it’s a constant learning activity that my daughter could gain confidence in both her strengths and self esteem and learn better behavior skills while having fun! I just booked my daughters 4th birthday party there today! I can’t wait!!! Their party packages are super reasonable to fit your budget!
Sensei Rick is amazing! He is great with kids! His kickboxing fitness classes are great and full of energy! I love it! If you haven’t tried it! Give them a call you won’t regret it!
I took the kickboxing class twice a week, for a few months and Sensei worked hard with each of us to make sure we were doing what worked best for us and made sure we were feeling good, but still pushed us. Highly reccomend the class!
Sensei Rick is a gifted instructor! He has a gentle and kind but firm way he runs a classroom. The kids have so much fun while learning focus, listening and respect. A very refreshing experience!
Fitness kickboxing is great! 3 classes in and I can already tell that I am getting stronger. Sensei is so helpful and accommodating. Such a friendly and inviting group- if you are thinking about it, just give it a try
We started going here a few weeks ago and I can already see the difference in my son. His behavior at school and at home have changed so much. Rick is a fantastic teacher and goes over and beyond to make sure each student is learning and having fun.

Sensei Rick (and all those who instruct alongside him) demonstrates a tremendous amount of respect for karate, his students, parents/guardians, himself and his family. He closes each class by having his students bow to teachers and masters (past and present), and finally to their parents, with a shout of “I will never quit!” – after which he instructs all the kids to give their parents a big hug. My son has been a student here for 3 years and he loves it. He is physically, mentally and emotionally stronger for his days spent @ 5 Dragons, and even though it is a commitment to be there 3 days a week, he goes willingly and does not complain. I believe the reason for the success of 5 Dragons is Sensei Rick’s approach. He delivers a well-rounded program, with a good mix of forms, fitness and fighting. The kids learn very quickly that “it’s OK to get a boo-boo.” That’s a lesson that carries weight throughout all aspects of life. He also reinforces time and again that karate is more than just a set of skills, it’s also knowing the right and wrong time to use them. He teaches his students that it’s always better to walk away from a fight if you can. I have seen children transformed at 5 Dragons. I have watched new students walk in lacking confidence – prone to tears at the slightest critique or correction – and seen these same kids, just a handful of months later, walking taller, making eye contact, speaking with more conviction, and often maturing into some of the best in their divisions/age groups. Sensei Rick does not allow his students to goof off during class, but he does know how to make class fun. Through games, good-natured teasing, and a love of the sport, he ensures that the kids he trains enjoy themselves while they learn. He has a sense of patience, discipline and humor that comes from many years spent teaching and parenting. Lastly, let me state that I never put any stock in reviews with no text to back them up, especially one-star reviews. To me, that’s an act of purposeful sabotage and nothing more. And to anyone who claims Sensei Rick and/or his school lacks respect for people, protocol, or martial arts in general, I would question whether they have ever set foot inside the “5 Dragons Salisbury” dojo. Life changing! Both my children have been a part of the 5 Dragons Kids Karate program for three years and it's made a HUGE difference in every aspect of their lives, from school/academics, to athletics, personal responsibility and self respect. It's so well run, the instructors are world famous martial arts champions and they teach authentic traditional Japanese Kyokushin Karate. There is no easy black belts awarded at this school, they grow their students from within to develop a strong mind and body to prepare them for challenging tests as well as lifes challenges. You could enroll your child in a black belt factory or go authentic traditional Karate and teach your children that everything in life is earned. Our family is impressed with their new 6,000 sq ft facility! The instructors, curriculum and life skills program are simply amazing! You will love everything about it!
My son has been going to 5 dragons since November 2016 and loves it. He has gained so much strength and confidence in the short time and wants to work hard to get his black belt. Sensei Rick is an incredible instructor who engages children of all ages and adds some fun to their classes. He doesn't just teach them karate, he teaches them how to handle themselves outside the dojo. As a parent it is good to see how caring and involved sensei is with his students. He will always spend extra time with any student that needs help and he often runs late on some classes because he does games at the end to add the fun factor. I watched my son gain confidence and discipline within 6 months of him joining. 5 dragons is a great martial arts academy and I am so glad my son attends.
My boys have been going to 5 Dragons Salisbury for 4 years now. They have both grown in ways I could not have imagined under the guidance of Sensei Rick. Increased confidence, strength and a good workout have been just part of their experience. It is a supportive, caring place that I recommend highly.

I have watched my grandson grow from a shy four year old into a confident eight year old and I attribute this to the teachings from this school. On the other hand my five year grand daughter who has confidence is being taught respect and discipline. Sensei Rick takes pride in each child's progress.
I have my 8 year old son enrolled there and I love it sensi rick is so great with the kids and I would highly recommend 5 dragons to all my friends. My son started in April of 2017 and is already on his way to earning his orange belt. It is teaching him to focus discipline and respect. I am very Happy.
My boys (now age 13 &10) have gone here for almost 3 years. The instructor and his staff is nothing but the BEST!!!!! Professional, RESPECTFUL, and most of all, encouraging to all the students and their families. When my boys wanted to quit, the instructor, on his own time, talked me and my boys to find out their individual frustration/concerns. Not only is that a ROLE MODEL I want my boys to have, its that friendship/bond that is needed in this world today. I drive 40+ minutes to this dojo, and would not think twice about it! My boys will not go to any other dojo. They have learned more about themselves within the last 3 years than I could imagine. Starting them was one of the BEST choices I could have made!
My family discovered 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy Salisbury when we attended a Karate Birthday Party - we ran, did push-ups, broke boards and were completely won over by Sensei Rick and his staff. Shortly afterwards we signed up our 4 year old and he has been in the program for almost three years, joined a few months ago by his older brother. 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy supports my family's values. At school no explicit lessons are given on confidence, respect, focus.... My sons are now confident, respectful, good listeners and they are also great at breaking boards lol. They love attending 5 Dragons Kyokushin Karate class and practice at home often. I have never been to another karate school, but from what I hear 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy is different - the Life Skill Achievement Awards, Championship Level Instructors, and the teacher/student ratio (there are always at least 3 teachers per class), also make 5Dragons a special place.
This is a wonderful school. Sensei Rick is an amazing instructor and he has created a gifted team of assistants. Many of their students and instructors hold titles in National Competition including World Champion, National Champion, New England Grand Champion, and State Champion. My son has been enrolled for eight years, starting with the Kids Karate program and continuing into the youth Marrial Arts program. My husband and I have both taken adult martial arts and Fitness Kickboxing. The instructors are talented, caring people, and the facilities are clean and bright. The academy offers many classes and workshops to the community, and often non-members are encouraged to attend. The summer camps are very well organized and offer long days and day camps during school breaks. Enrolling at 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy Salisbury finally stopped our revolving door of gym memberships. This studio is so much more than any gym could be - I encourage you to give it a try.
We have been part of 5D for almost a year and a half and it has been an amazing experience for my son. In fact he often reminds me I should have started him sooner 😄. Sempei and his staff genuinely care about each student and go above and beyond in teaching them the skills they need to be successful both in and out of the dojo. The strength, skill and confidence my son has gained is remarkable! Looking forward to what the future holds for my karate kid.

I have my 7yr old grandaughter here for a trial period. The Instructor is Amazing very focused on his kids for the time he has them until the very end.His son is an Awesome young man. The studio is a very clean and comfortable atmosphere look foward to going every week without a doubt. I highly recommend this Studio if u are looking for Martial arts training for you or your child.2 thumbs up in every way. If My grandaughter is accepted to join im singing her up for 18 months. The best martial arts academy for children. We have all three girls enrolled in karate. I take Fitness kickboxing at 5 Dragons after being bored by ordinary gym routines ~ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
