Where to begin? This place is truly special. It is not often that you find coaches of this caliber. My son Calintz started wrestling here this past November and from day one he was made to feel welcome. I am so proud of him for his constant progress, but I am also proud that he is part of such a wonderful community of coaches and young wrestlers. We are relocating to a different area soon, but because I think this place is so irreplaceable, my son will be continuing his classes here. I can't say enough great things. "Thanks" is not enough to show the gratitude I have to these folks for my son's growth as an individual and as an athlete. If your child is interested in getting into wrestling or BJJ, pllllleeassee put this place at the top of your list. You won't regret it.

A very family friendly Enviroment. Angel is a great coach with lots of patience for me at 33 and my son at 6 who neither of us have any martial arts experience.

This place is awesome! My daughter Sadie wants to go to every class because she really enjoys it. Coach Angel and his family are very welcoming. It’s a great place to learn self defense, have fun, and get some good advice. My baby girl has so much fun with everyone there. My girls are fairly new to the gym, but I have been highly impressed with the Santiago Family and the atmosphere at the gym. From the moment my girls arrived at the gym, all the students made sure to include them in the BJJ family. The cleanliness of the gym is always top notch and the open layout provides a welcoming and comfortable environment, with plenty of seating. Training at 144BJJ doesn't end with Jiu-jitsu training, you can count on coach Angel to provide genuine love and care for your children, providing tips in life that go far beyond the mats. So if your looking for a super clean place with a top notch coah, that offers a family like atmosphere to train at, this is the place for you.

This gym is a great place to train. Family owned and operated, and the entire family is invested! All the students are supportive of one another while still maintaining a level of competitiveness that facilitates constant growth. The owner, professor, and head coach of the facility has a brilliant understanding of not just jiu-jitsu, but he also has a strong grasp on philosophy, psychology, and ethics. If you are a true beginner, long-time grappler, or just looking to get or stay in shape, it doesn't matter how young or old you are, this gym has something for you!

This gym is exceptional! The instructor is top-notch, the facility is impressive, and the sense of community is unmatched. Easily one of the best schools I've been to. The instruction and teaching methodology was absolutely incredible. Coach Angel and his stidents went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. This gym is family oriented meaning it's a good environment if your kids or significant other is waiting or want to watch and the layout is very inviting and comfortable. Hygiene protocol is 10 out of 10, the gym is very clean and put together. This gym is a hidden gem that won't be hidden for much longer.

The instructor here is exemplary. On point, as in, he takes the time to explain everything in a way that you can understand. He really strives to help you retain everything he teaches you on the mat. And what really stands out about him is his understanding of every student's circumstances regarding life. He understands that everyone's situation is different, and does not hold that against the student, should they miss class. As for the class itself, the atmosphere is exceptionally welcoming. Everyone here is friendly and willing to help you out if you do not understand something, i.e. a move, the way to commit the techniques, etc., and it pushes you to perform your best. The biggest takeaway from this class is it teaches you not only self defense, but the will to keep fighting and perservere through anything. Traits you can take with you in everyday life, whether thay be your education, your workplace, or anywhere else you are at. Overall, I encourage any who are interested to take the time to come check the place out. It will be worth it, I promise you.

This has been a blessing to the community! My Husband and has been attending classes 4 days a week for a little over a month. He has lost weight and gained a love of jujitsu (I realized how cheesy that sounded as soon as I wrote it 😂, but it’s true). He goes to the 6 am class and it has really made a difference in his day, at 44 years old, he’s more energetic and focused on learning new moves. I only mention his age in case anyone is on the fence about attending an adult class. The owner/instructor Angel is really patient and you can tell that he loves what he does. So if you’re thinking about checking them out or kicking your significant other/kids out of the house to check them out, do it!

I started training here with no prior experience. The way Mr. Santiago teaches breaks things down, and makes it simple and easy to learn. He has created a community of amazing students here and an environment that makes it fun and safe to learn martial arts in. I try to go there as many times a week as I can. I highly recommend it.

My girls and I joined the first night they opened. We were all completely new to BJJ but even as newbies they made us feel welcomed. Coach Angel has helped my girls come out of their shell a little more every time. I enrolled my girls to help them build self confidence and to learn some self defense as they get older. I personally joined to stay active and learn self defense skills. I am learning so much every week! It is really a great group of people. One of the hardest things I have ever done but love it all at the same time. Can’t say enough good words about Angel and Kayla and their beautiful family. Hope to see you on the mats!

Can’t say enough about how awesome this gym is! Super clean/sanitary, open concept, mats along the walls, high intensity, and an amazing coach that breaks down techniques in a way you can utilize in all ways possible. Great gym for boys/girls and men/women of all ages! One of my favorite aspects of the experience is listening in on the positive lessons taught to the kids after training in their “Mat Chat” half circle. Highly recommend 144BJJ!

Don't miss out on a great opportunity to train here whether it's for yourself or for your child/children! I honestly can't say enough good things about Coach Angel, his wife and family. Coach is great with kids and they love him!! My granddaughter has learned so much and is excited to attend class as much as she can. The gym is clean, comfortable, safe and looks amazing! The rates are very affordable and with the ability to train as much as we'd like. We look forward to training long term and encourage others to check out this hidden gem (gym) in Dinwiddie County. We are a homeschool family, and were looking for ways to help our son socialize, build self confidence, self discipline, and learn self defense. 144 BJJ has provided all of the above and more. My son has gained new friends, become more confident in himself, and has learned lots of self defense techniques. The owners are amazing! They are some of the most down to earth and genuine people. You can tell they are very passionate about what they do, which makes our family love going even more. We plan to stick with them long term, we are so happy to have such an amazing BJJ gym in our community!
