Sterling is the main BJJ tournament venue city for the DMV area, with a busy calendar of regional events. Grappling Industries DMV is the most frequent, returning several times a year with round-robin brackets.
PBJJF runs the Virginia Summer International Open and the Grand Slam Virginia International Championship here, and FUJI BJJ holds DMV championships in summer, fall and winter. United Grappling and NAGA have also brought events to Sterling.
Half of events include Gi divisions and half include No-Gi, and around half run kids divisions. Close to two in five events have an absolute division. IBJJF rules are used at some events, while others follow their own house rules. December is the busiest month, followed by August, September, November and March.
