Belfast hosts the large majority of BJJ competitions in Northern Ireland, with smaller events in Newry, Derry, Strabane and Antrim. Most of the calendar is built around a handful of local promotions that return several times a year.
Solid Ground is the most active organiser, running All Ireland youth championships in both Gi and No-Gi as well as round-robin events for kids, teens and juveniles and adult and masters championships. Grappling Industries Belfast visits regularly, and other recurring events include Trident Grappling's NI Open, Empire Grappling's All Ireland Open and the Strabane Submission Series run by SBG Strabane.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in roughly equal measure, and around one in five events includes an absolute division. Adult entry usually costs around £15–£40. October is the busiest month, followed by November, with January and March also well served.
