Weigh-In Requirements

There is no weight allowance.

Competitors must weigh in wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Competitors, parents, guardians and coaches are responsible for selecting the correct weight division and monitoring the competitor’s bodyweight before the event.

Smoothcomp Profiles

Every competitor’s Smoothcomp profile must be set to public.

Public profiles allow the organisers to review previous results, belt history and competition experience. This helps create fair divisions, prevent sandbagging and provide safe and appropriate matches.

Competitors whose profiles remain private may be removed from the event.

All registration information must be complete and accurate.

Match Formats

We aim to schedule every competitor for at least two matches wherever possible.

Depending on registrations and suitable opponents, divisions may use:

  • Round-robin pools
  • Matched bouts
  • Consolation matches
  • Elimination brackets
  • Pool stages followed by medal matches

The exact format may be adjusted based on bracket size, withdrawals, division mergers and the availability of safe opponents.

While multiple matches are our aim, a specific number of matches cannot be guaranteed.

Division Changes and Mergers

The organisers may adjust or merge divisions to provide safe and suitable matches.

Factors considered include:

  • Age
  • Weight
  • Sex
  • Belt, grade or rank
  • Total training experience
  • Previous competition experience
  • Major medals, titles or achievements

Competitors, parents, guardians or coaches may be contacted before a significant division change is made.

Our Aim

Midlands Combat League has been created to help grow MMA, wrestling and submission grappling at grassroots level.

We want to provide regular and accessible events where athletes can:

  • Gain valuable competitive experience
  • Test their skills in a controlled environment
  • Improve their wrestling, grappling and MMA
  • Compete against appropriately matched opponents
  • Build confidence before progressing to larger competitions or full-contact fight shows

We want to keep these events simple, competitive and focused on athlete development.
