REGISTRATION: Registration will close on Wednesday prior to the event at 11:59 PM.

Registration must be finalized and paid for prior to the event's registration deadline. If payment is not finalized prior to this deadline, the registration will be incomplete and the competitor will not be able to grapple.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: This event is a team-based, quintet-style tournament. All individual matches are 5 minutes, submission only, with no overtime. The first match will be blind picks from each team. If a player wins by submission, then the losing player will be eliminated and the winner will stay in until they fail to submit their following opponent(s). Then the other team will get to decide their next competitor during a 1-minute rest period. For double elimination following no submissions from either player, both players will be eliminated and we will immediately proceed to the next match with blind picks from both teams. The first team to eliminate all players from the opposing team will win the match.

Male divisions consist of quintets (5-person teams), and Female divisions consist of trios (3-person teams). Male divisions may have two alternates and female divisions may have one alternate. Alternates may swap with any active member of their team that weighs the same or more than the alternate. To do so, let the referee know who is swapping prior the beginning of each team match.

Each division containing 4 or more teams will be a double-elimination bracket format. Divisions containing 2 or 3 teams will be a single match or round robin format, respectively. In the case of both teams being eliminated in a draw, the ref will determine the winning team based on the player who had the most significant submission attempts, position dominance, and pace in the last match.

Most competitors will get at least 2 matches. However, for the teams that win 1st place, it is possible that some competitors may not get a match. This could be the case if one person from the winning teams defeats every opponent by themselves. Therefore, matches are not guaranteed, and it is recommended that you adjust your line-up for each team match to ensure the most matches for your team members as possible.

CAPACITY: In order to finish this event in a timely manner, each division has a set capacity limit of 8 team registrations and registration for that division will close early if capacity is reached. We highly recommend that competitors register as early as possible and do not make any travel arrangements until their registration is finalized.

WEIGH INS: Weigh in will be available at the venue from 9:00 AM EST on the day of the event. It is critical that competitors are weighed in prior to the start of the event. Competitors are NOT required to weigh in wearing uniform. Teams that fail to be equal to or less than the team weigh allowance will have the option to continue with with their original players, but start with one loss. If this occurs, the the 4 competing athletes may not be over the total team weight limit. For example, if a female team weighs in at 440 lbs, they can continue to compete, but may only use 2 of their 3 members, as long as the two competing members are under 405 lbs during any team match. Once two of their three members are eliminated, they lose the match. Our goal is to have an enjoyable, professional, and safe environment for all competitors. Please be mindful of what you/your competitor will weigh the day of competition.

TIPS (For First Time Competitors or a Reminder for Seasoned Competitors):

     - Try not to overthink what a Jiu Jitsu tournament is. Although it is a competition, having fun and bringing together the Jiu Jitsu community is the top priority. A competitor should want to continue competing and meeting new friends every event.

-Upon arrival at the event you will go to the "Check in" table. This is where you will show the tickets you purchased and receive direction from a Controlled Combat team member on where to go. If you are or have a competitor, you will then go to the weigh in line. After the competitor is weighed in, they may enter the arena and set up in their preferred location and view vendors available/warm up.

     - Smoothcomp "Brackets and schedule" Is a tremendous resource. Use it to view what mat a competitor is on, follow the dynamic schedule, and view results. Refresh it often!

     - Jiu Jitsu tournaments can be a long day. Controlled Combat prides itself on its logistical planning and has a goal of finishing a bracket within the scheduled timeframe, but there are times when this is not feasible. Utilize concessions available at the event and/or bring some snacks/drinks. Pro tip: Uno or another card game is a wonderful time killing alternative prior to the event beginning or between brackets if there is an extended break.

     - Do not tire yourself out prior to your match and make sure to appropriately stretch in preparation of competition. The bullpen area will assist with this, but it is up to the competitor to adequately prepare themself for a grappling match not only to prevent injury, but to get into the competitive mindset.

     - As a competitor, be ready to report to the bullpen. A "walkover" or disqualification may occur if a competitor is not available within 90 seconds of the match start time.

     - Wear the belt in which you have earned for competition. Often, a youth, grey with white stripe belt may be in their first tournament. Have a discussion with your coach. There are many very competitive youths out there and grey belt may not be the appropriate division to compete in. If a competitor signs up for white belt and is wearing their grey with white stripe, then they will NOT be allowed to compete in the white belt division. The intent of this tip is not to encourage "sandbagging", but to be aware of the belt restriction.

     - Before a match, a competitor will report to the bullpen and then the mat which their bracket is competing. The competitor will stand by the edge of the mat until the referee calls both competitors to the mat. Competitors should bow when entering the mat and then set up for their match as directed by the referee. The competitor should shake hands with their opponent. Once the match is complete the referee will raise the hand of the winner and competitors
