Professor Marcello at BTT is an incredible instructor and an even better person. He’s thoughtful, caring, and truly dedicated to his students’ growth. He always makes sure you fully understand each lesson, keeps safety as a top priority, and his expertise clearly shows. Training with Professor Marcello and his daughter Duda has been an amazing experience — they’re both exceptional coaches who make every class engaging and rewarding. I highly recommend BTT and Professor Marcello to anyone looking to learn from the best!
Most Excellent Atmosphere! Coach Marcelinho is a Fantastic Instructor. Takes time in dedicating precision to his craft and to his students. BTT is very family oriented 👍
BTT is one of the best academy to train. It’s family friendly. My whole family trains and we love it. Coach Marcelo is awesome, so helpful and patient with us. He does an amazing job. Definitely recommend.
If you are looking for a family friendly gym to learn Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ) then Brazilian Top Team (BTT) is a fantastic place! We train as a family and compete in tournaments regularly. If you are familiar with how difficult it is to achieve the level of Black Belt in BJJ then you will be happy to hear that at BTT you will be trained and studying under the best 2nd-4th Degree Black Belts whom also compete regularly. My family is trained by Professor Marcelo at their North East location. The best thing about Professor Marcelo is the excellent training we receive while he maintains a family appropriate atmosphere for us to learn and develop.
BTT Northeast is a great gym to train Jujitsu and Muy Thai! BTT NE has fantastic coaches who are not only knowledgeable but also skilled at teaching both kids and adults. This is why our entire family trains here with coach Marcelo (BJJ) and coach Cosme (Muy Thai). Shout out to coach Marcelo and coach Caio for preparing me for my first ever competition in just 2 weeks notice!
Professor Marcelo is a fantastic coach, who does an exceptional job and instructing both kids and adults. My whole family trains under Marcelo and we couldn’t imagine training anywhere else.
It is a very nice academy, it is family-friendly and they offer waiting areas during the class for small children. I like that the coaches are professional, kind and patient when teaching. Their practices are very specific and adapted for the learning of small children and adults.
BTT has changed my life. It’s not just about the workout or learning some specific skill set. The training and guidance from BTT helps you on and off the mat. The Professors are world class and its a very positive atmosphere. The organization is welcoming to all students regardless of skill level so do not be intimated to do the trial class.
BTT is the best BJJ Gym around. Every class is led by multiple extremely talented black belt coaches with decades of experience. Thank you BTT, every class makes me a better and patient person. 🙏 #family
I can’t say enough good things about this place and the coaches!!! My daughter has been going for a while and coach Denise was amazing with her and so has been coach Marcelo. I am a 50 year old beginner and had it not been for coach Marcelo and his amazing daughter Maria encouraging me I would not have started. If you want a loving and encouraging place to go and for your kids to get amazing coaching pick this place!!
Amazing gym! Here you’re family. They are absolutely wonderful with kids all the way through the adults! Very competitive minded family oriented, and positive healthy lifestyle focused. The level of experience and knowledge from the coaches is second to none!
This is definitely the best Brazilian jiu jitsu! The environment is amazing, the teachers are professional and great to work with! dont think twice, I would definitely recommend Brazilian Top Team as your martial arts and self-defense school for adults and kids!
I love this gym! It’s clean and spacious! I love coming here and always refer people because they’re such a great gym with a lot of talented fighters. The coaches are the best! They also have a play area that I can use for my kids as well as workout and cardio equipment to use while I’m there. Great place overall!
The facilities at Brazilian Top Team are well-maintained and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The training area is spacious, allowing for smooth transitions between techniques, and the cleanliness and hygiene standards are impeccable.
Best Jiu-Jitsu academy in San Antonio! Gamonal and his teachers do an excellent job with their students, whether they are adults, masters, or children. I highly recommend it!
I have been training here for a while now and it has been the best time of my life. The culture is amazing, I love that it's not a gym where you kiss the instructor's feet and call them Master, but instead they earn your respect by showing respect to you, and they are some of the best people I've met in my entire life. I have learned a lot about jiu jitsu through them and I'm forever thankful for my instructors, and fellow training partners for helping me and each other the entire way.
My 5 year old daughter is on this academy. She gets distracted easily and can't keep up with the rest of her class but her trainers are really good understanding and being patient with her. And with all and all they treat her the same way no distinctions. So far so good. We are happy with this academy
PARENTS BEWARE: KEEP ANY YOUNG CHILDREN AWAY.
Long story short: We walked in with our 3 year old and walked out 10 minutes later very upset, confused, and concerned for my child’s head injury. Needless to say we never returned. Parent’s I would suggest some place else and if you decide to still bring your kids in please be careful and speak up if you think something doesn’t look right BEFORE your child gets unnecessarily hurt.
Here’s what happened.
Backstory:
Our 3 year old started PreK and in his class at his new school there were 3 yr olds, 4 yr olds and 5 yr olds who had just turned 5. In addition to the big age gap our son is very small for his age.
He said he loved the school and teacher but was coming home with different complaints everyday. Someone pushed me to the floor, someone slapped me, someone spit on me, etc…
We thought martial arts might help him.
The incident:
We drive past Brazilian Top Team Northeast every day since we live just minutes away. We walked in and there was a class that seemed to be beginning soon. There was a room for parents to the left that had a giant window and seats to see the training area. The man in the picture greeted us and seemed nice enough. He told us we could stay and watch and at that moment our 3 yr old said “I want to try” and we asked him if he could go out there with the younger kids. The youngest looked about 4 or 5. The man laughed a little said yes and offered to lend a uniform. We were all very excited and expected a very basic first day. Maybe some hand over hand teaching, maybe some exercises or even verbal strategies, (“No stop I don’t like that”)
Within a few seconds he has the students get into about 5 lines of 4 or 5 kids. The first person in each line walked all the way across to the other side of the room and faced the line. The next student in line was then instructed to run full speed, wrap arms around the standing student and “take them down”.
Our 3 year was the last in line. He ran across the room and looked like he was trying to move a statue because the little girl didn’t budge at all. The instructor stopped them and told our kiddo to stand in her spot. This is where I became concerned. I thought surely he would be there to walk and talk them through it as his daughter ran up next. But instead he stood back smirked and let his very well trained, bigger daughter wrap her arms around our 3 year old, lift him up, and slam the back of his head to the ground! To make matters worse no one seemed to rush over somehow I was the first one by our child’s side picking him up off the ground. I removed the uniform and walked out.
I couldn’t understand why this instructor would do that and how that experience could ever help our 3 year old become better and more confident. It became clear it was to make his daughter better and more confident. This was no way her fault but I would advise any new parents who have children under 5 years old to just be careful with her because this was about a year ago so she may be close to 5 years old now. But more importantly parents of all ages be careful with this instructor. Just speak up if things are moving too fast on the first day or any day after.
There are always other places so I would suggest just try them all out and see what fits your child best.
