The dojo recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary—such an incredible milestone! I’m so thankful to Sensei Rick and Manuel for welcoming me. I came to Judo later than most, inspired by watching my little girl and husband enjoying their classes. I decided to give it a try, and nearly two years later, I’m still going strong—and really hooked!
With classes offered for kids (twice a week) and adults (up to four times a week), and options for all levels and intensities, there’s truly something for everyone. You can move at your own pace, with no pressure—just encouragement. The senseis are incredibly patient, and you’re free to challenge yourself as much as you’d like.
Even though Judo is technically an individual sport, the sense of community is real. The atmosphere is respectful, supportive, and friendly. The coaches often jump into classes to share different techniques and perspectives, which keeps things engaging and helps everyone grow
FRJ is highly recommended! I've had three solid months of training with Sensei Manuel and Ricky since starting in mid-November. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and the community is so supportive with a good mix of student levels and ages. The Sensei's give clear and personalized instruction, which is really helpful especially for beginners. They encourage taking it at your own pace, with no pressure to perform beyond your limits, particularly when starting out.The free week of classes (4) was a great way to try Judo out. I'm a regular member now, and I plan to keep training here.
Front Range Judo has great instructors and a friendly community vibe. I'm really grateful such a high quality dojo is right here in Boulder. Even as a beginner I feel supported and part of the class from day one. I would highly recommend trying it out even if you are not an experienced martial artist - they are very accommodating for beginners.
My daughter has attended Front Range Judo since 03/2021. The amount of encouragement, passion, and skill that she has received from Sensei Ricky and Sensei Manuel has surpassed any and all expectation. We can not thank them enough for helping her gain confidence, and helping her commit and succeed in Judo. The authenticity and commitment of the Senseis shows through in every class for all ages and abilities.
Excellent judo, great culture with low ego and a general environment of friendship and respect. There's roughly equal time and investment in programs for both adults and children and classes are offered at different levels of experience and intensity. Sensei Ricky especially has done a tremendous job keeping this judo club alive and well in the Boulder area through many years, multiple location shifts, and some hard times (including the pandemic of the past few years), which speaks volumes to the level of commitment and consistency he brings to the mats. The senseis at Front Range Judo support the full range of adult students, from older beginners and recreational players to active competitors, even traveling at their own expense at times to personally coach students competing at events in other states.
