Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts
We couldn’t be more grateful for Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts! Our 8-year-old practices karate there several days a week, and it has been an incredible experience from day one. The instructors strike the perfect balance of discipline, encouragement, and fun. They hold the kids to high standards while also building their confidence and helping them feel proud of their progress. We’ve seen real growth—not just in karate skills, but in focus, respect, perseverance, and self-control. The community at Wolchek feels supportive and welcoming. It’s clear that the instructors truly care about each student’s development, both on and off the mat. Our child looks forward to every class, which says everything. If you’re looking for a place that teaches strong martial arts fundamentals while also shaping character, Wolchek Academy is outstanding. Highly recommend!
Posted 6 months agoHi son, has been a student here for four years! He loves the community and he, of course loves, coach Tim! It’s been a very formative and important community for him and our family is very grateful for everything The studio has given him. From the afterschool program to private lessons to heartwarming belt tests and ceremonies watching him progress, always brings a tear to my eye. The studio has always accepted him for exactly the way he is and that’s so important for kids!
Posted 1 year agoGreat place for our kids and sounds like the adult classes are great too. It’s a business run by people you can tell care about the students, staff and instructors. Highly recommend
Fantastic instruction and Mr. Wolchek is wonderful with people of all ages! Highly recommend.
Great place to exercise and learn martial arts.
Great place for karate! All the coaches are so amazing, patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. My son has been going for years and really enjoys it. Highly recommend it!!
My son has attended classes and summer camps at Wolchek academy for eight years. It really is a community with summer camps, an annual summer party, and other events. In addition to the community, there are a variety of classes so kids can adjust their schedule as the time that they have to dedicate to their martial arts fluctuates. The kids here make friendships that extend into their schools and communities.
The instructors are patient, kind, and truly dedicated to helping each child succeed. They take the time to ensure the kids learn proper techniques while building confidence and discipline. It’s been a fantastic experience for our family, and we’re so grateful for the supportive environment they provide!
Incredible schedule of classes for a busy family! Great instructors and my kid immediately felt at ease and excited about his karate practice.
Coach Kirsten is wonderful! Our 4 year old started Lil Dragons and loves it.
Wolchek has been such a wonderful experience for my son! The staff are phenomenal.
My child has been a student at Wolchek for 4 years. It has been an amazing experience for him. It is a supportive community that has helped him build mental and physical strength. He leaves every class energized!
I love going here it is so fun, its more than a martial arts studio it's a community of good people
Fun, high-integrity, safe and disciplined!
Teachers are great and all the additional events foster a sense of community. Our son is learning martial arts and the values that go along with it.
we switched to this gym about a year ago and have been loving it. Really good sensei and facility.
Wolchek is so much more than a great martial arts studio. It's like a real community. After school programs, parents night out and summer & day camps. All blended with excellent martial arts coaches.
We love WAMA! You can tell the instructors are experienced and enjoy teaching kids. They keep classes engaging and fun, with lots of smiles and laughter, while getting in a lot of technical skills. My daughter has learned so much and I can see her self-confidence improving. The prices are reasonable, with several class times available each week.
We absolutely love Wolcheck! It feels like our extended family. Soooo thankful for the amazing teachers!
Greatest spot of ALL TIME
My kid has gone for a year and loves every second of it!!!!!
We LOVE Wolcheck Academy! In the last year our girls have increased their physical stamina, their emotional regulation and have found a love of karate. Their knowledgeable instructors know how to be firm but fun, while instilling a love of karate for all. Summer camps are fun and parents night out are not to be missed. Joining Wolcheck was the best thing we could have done for our girls, they are so happy there!
Outstanding karate classes with an incredible set of instructors and staff. Best after school programs. Amazing camps during school breaks. This place has it all!!!!
Best karate school AND aftercare program in Boulder! My daughter loved every second and the entire staff is extremely caring.
Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts is wonderful. They are a great business and are even better to work with. We can not wait to work with them in the future!
My son has been a member for 10 yrs. Excellent program run by great people.
Excellent, well rounded, martial arts program! The teachers are great with kids! Tim Wolchek has world class experience with martial arts and is an excellent sensei. The experience and skills the kids gain is a solid base for almost any martial arts that they want to pursue later, not just karate.
We tried out 4 different martial arts facilities in Boulder just to get a feel for what was out there and found Wolchek to be the best mix of fun and discipline for our small children (4 & 6). Mr. Wolcheck and Mr. Scott keep the kids extremely engaged by constantly changing the drills and games; they also focus on respect and truly know each child. My children love coming; I strongly recommend the Wolchek Academy!
This place has been amazing for my 3 kids-- can't thank the wonderful instructors at Wolcheck enough. We've been there for almost 6 years. Great to watch how kids of all different ability levels gain confidence, build skills and support each other through the program. The instructors really know how to connect with the kids and motivate them. I've recommended Wolcheck Academy to many others over the years and each time I've talked another family into trying it, they've loved it too.
My son started when he was 5 and the instructors were all patient and encouraging. He is now 7 and loves going to Karate at Wolchek Academy. They have instilled confidence in him and most importantly focus which has carried over to his everyday life and school. Thanks WAMA!
We've been attending Wolcheck for a couple years now and love it. We'd asked around about martial arts studios and were surprised by how many require a year-long contract. Wolcheck has been welcoming, supportive, and instructive from the get-go while offering affordable and flexible instruction. Mr. Wolchek and Mr. Scott aren't just black belts -- they know how to get kids to pay attention, move their bodies, practice mental and physical discipline, and learn new skills. As they grow I hope they will look into a bigger space that will let them expand the practice.
Love it, great place to learn and train martial arts
I started karate here when I was six years old and I'm still doing it today! Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts is a great way to build self confidence, focus, fitness, flexiblility, and learn self defense, while having fun at the same time. Every single person who walks into the doors of Wolchek Academy has a smile on their face. I have seen a few other studios, including some in France, and they are absolutely nothing compared to Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts. I highly recommend this karate studio.
What can I say about WAMA? Too many, but I will start by sayin that I owe my current weight and fitness level to WAMA, I have been in Boulder for a bit over two years and have been attending classes for almost as long. I walked into the studio to ask Mr. Brain Scott if I could come in and hit the bags sometime(I fancied myself as a boxer) need less to say he convinced me to come in and take classes. two years later I have learned a tremendous amount both in technique and in new diciplines(Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Eskirima, Muay-Thaiand Karate) Before WAMA I had never had any formal martial arts instuction, but even still as an observer, I noticed how great the instructors wre at relayin the lesson and making sure EVERYONE gets it. I am blessed to have come across this studio, bot only did they get me in th best shape of my life but I also have made a good amount of friends within the studi , not just class mates, but also parents. Wama is not just a martial arts studio, they also teach responsability, honor ,respect and there is an amazing sense of community
You had me at hello (well maybe shortly afterwards). We moved to the Boulder area 3 years with two almost black belts for kids and went searching for a dojo where they could continue their training. After wandering into and out of numerous schools in the area, we walked into what was then Karate America on 30th street in Boulder. We were warmly greeted, and an assistant instructor told us about the school and invited us to attend a class (for free) to see what classes were like. We came back and our kids attended a class with Tim Wolchek (owner), who basically covered all of the disciplines that the school teaches in a hour overview. The kids thought it was very similar (if not better ) to their old school, so we became customers nearly three years ago and have been happy with our choice ever since. The atmosphere is a large extended family, everyone helping everyone else, numerous disciplines to train to, in an environment that is conducive to learning. The dojo is clean, and provides space for parents to observe, and young siblings have a play area. We spend nearly 7 hours a week at the school learning Karate, ju-jitsu, and have opportunities to learn other disciplines (just not the time). Our kids (now black belts) are assistant instructors, and spend a lot of time with Head Instructor and Program Director Brian Scott who has encouraged our kids to grow in many ways. My wife attends kick-boxing class twice a week, and I have started on the journey to learn karate, and ju-jitsu myself through the instruction from the school... by the way did I mention they changed their name to Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts this spring? Both Mr Wolchek and Mr Scott are trained in multiple disciplines, and hold black belts in most, Karate, Kempo, Eskrima, Ju-Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, etc. As a result students get a broad approach to their training, which keeps classes varied and interesting. Both of our children were encouraged to participate in competitions, and are doing so successfully, creating a healthy advancement in their skills and confidence. We really could not be happier with the school we chose. I encourage you to stop in and have a chat with Mr Wolchek or Mr Scott about how attendance can benefit you or your children. Rate plans are incredibly flexible, and they offer many different disciplines at the school to choose from.
I am practicing the art of eskrima at WAMA, and I am just amazed everytime with the level of skill everybody has and excited every week on the new skills I learn constantly, with really real instructors that are very very skilled with the art.
I started Karate at WAMA when I was 5 years old. I fell in love with the teachers. They cared about me and helped me work on every aspect of Karate. I have continued to train there and now I am a second-degree Black Belt with them. Recently I have started to take Eskrima classes. They work on your Cardio and skills, for the upcoming tournaments. Recently I went out to California for the National Stick fighting event and did a great job. The instructors have been doing Karate since they are young and they are some of the best in the World.
Wolchek Academy has been a great, positive experience for my two boys ages 6 and 8. They get to see all their friends, have positive leadership from adults who are very experienced working with children, set goals, get great exercise, and be with their friends. The afternoon sessions for this age group are very well priced and convenient. Wolchek really puts families first and provides a great service to the community. I love having wireless access there. There is a good waiting/viewing area for adults. And they have handled my youngest child's food allergy needs very confidently and well, which is a rare thing to find. We started this spring and I am sure we'll have our boys attend there for a very long time. Very happy!
This place is AWESOME! My brother and I have been taking Eskrima classes on and off from WAMA for about 4 years. The people are amazing, it's engaging and fun, and we've learned SO much. Beginner? This is the place you want to be. Go learn in a great environment. Expert? This is the place you want to be. Go try out your skills against all the experienced leaders at WAMA.
