Excellent and informative, presented in friendly manner with just the information needed. Training mockups are great to reinforce and practice methods taught in the oral presentation.

Rocky is a fantastic instructor! With realistic situations and examples we were able to properly practice for a life threatening bleed! 10/10 recommend!

Started 6 months ago. Coach Rocky was very responsive when I asked questions about beginning BJJ in my 40s, gym culture and realistic expectations with limited time in a week to train. Great coaches, good mix of ages and experience levels in each class. Attitudes towards learning, camaraderie and a clean training environment. Love it!

My son has been coming to FX since he was 4 and everyone is absolutely amazing there. He really enjoys learning and growing in jujitsu. Coach Rocky and Brooklyn and all of the coaches are very patient and great at breaking down the steps and working with kids at learning.

I love training here, it only took 1 muay thai class with coach Rocky to know that this is the right gym for me. Very friendly environment, everyone is willing to teach what they know. I would recommend anyone train at FX.

I've always wanted to take some form of martial arts but something always got in the way. Either it was no time, no money or couldn't find a good place where I didn't feel out of place. Well now I'm 60 years old. Three years ago I found fx and immediately it became the high light of my week. So it just proves you're never to old. Great instructor's equipment, and scheduling. Fun, learn, exercis, comradery, you won't find a better place.

My son case started with FX in Franklin in November of 2024... He literally cried the day following his first class because it was Saturday and there were no classes that day.. he asked everyday when his next class is. The coaches do a phenomenal job teaching the kids and making it fun at the same time. Highly recommend if you have a child you take them for the free class it can be life changing for a kid in many ways!!!!

I recently attended a Control the Bleed course with Rocky and his family and they were so warm and welcoming to me and my daughter! His presentation was well planned and executed with plenty of real life scenarios to keep it interesting. The hands on skills portion really helped to tie everything we learned together. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches!! I would definitely recommend!!!

This is an excellent place to exercise, train for self defense, and meet new friends. Training here was the highpoint of my time in Sylva and I can only give the highest praise to this martial arts gym.

I started off as a parent enrolling my youngest daughter in Brazilian jiu jitsu classes in 2019. Within two years I had also joined along with my oldest daughter. Coach Rocky has become one of the most important and impactful people for our family. We are so grateful for this gym and its influence in our lives. My family is safer because of FX Self Defense.

Excellent environment! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. My daughter has been attending their classes for a couple months now and she absolutely loves it. Coach Rocky and all the other coaches really want the students to succeed and they are great about making sure everyone is involved and receiving a little bit of one on one every class. Everyone is smiling, including the parents!

I started taking BJJ for fitness and self-defense. One call with Coach Rocky confirmed this is not the smashing, aggressive, win-focused environment I wanted to avoid. He listened and understood my needs, then encouraged me to attend a free class, which I loved! The coaches are knowledgeable, and effective teachers. The environment is respectful, safe and comfortable. Students and staff are committed and focused, on our own personal development and helping others with theirs, while keeping 'fun' on the mat. This past weekend I struggled through a basic move to the encouragement and support of three others who'd stopped to watch and help. All were worlds beyond my current abilities, who could have understandably ignored my struggle for minor accomplishment, and all were genuinely happy for me as I followed their direction to complete the move and achieve it. As a medium-sized, nearly middle aged lady, there's no where else on this earth I believe I could feel comfortable flat on my back with the full weight of a man I barely know on top of me. Which, actually, summarizes the reason I train at FX. I'm developing the ability to 'be comfortable in uncomfortable situations', so that I can be confident and stay safe the next time I find myself in one.
