I've been to a few gyms in Stoke, some of which were good and some not so good. I'm quite confident that Horizon is the best fit for me by a mile: A. Jon really knows his stuff and he really puts the thinking in to breaking theories down into a workable structure for his classes. Importantly, he also really knows how to teach (you don't always get all of this in a coach.) B. I'm a slow learner, it's frustrating and takes me ages to 'get it', but the pace of teaching here is enough to not push you OTT and just enough to pick up enough to progress C. There's a healthy culture - Great set of people, properly supportive, proper sense of humour. (You definitely don't always get this!) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Horizon, Just turn up and find out for yourself!

Just completed the beginners BJJ course at Horizon as well as attending foundation classes for around 6 months. Really welcoming environment, Jon’s teaching is very helpful and it’s always a great workout. Would recommend anyone looking into BJJ to give it a go at Horizon

Can’t recommend this place enough. Been going for a few months now and it’s such a lovely place with great people. As a female I was abit nervous as first but everyone is so welcoming and supportive.

A welcoming gym that has helped me improve significantly over the last 8 weeks on Jon’s beginner course, well worth the money and would recommend to anyone thinking of trying out some bjj. 👍

5 stars for Jon at Horizon BBJ. For such a welcoming, friendly and supportive atmosphere. I’ve signed up to the beginners course twice as it’s so well-structured and helpful in developing a strong foundation to then apply in the fundamentals/foundations sessions afterwards. I’ve not been to another gym to compare, though nor would I want to. Thanks Jon

Great team and a fun environment to train in. Progression is quick and noticeable thanks to Jon’s commitment and teaching style, and I’ve honestly never had so much self-confidence since starting BJJ. Very affordable and highly recommended.

Great gym, great coach and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend Horizon to anyone looking to train jujitsu whether you’re a beginner, like me, or more advanced. Completed the 8 week beginner course and learnt a lot in a short amount of time. Looking to carry on to progress whenever I can! Thank you for the experience Jon!

Bought my daughter here to learn something new, ended up signing myself up, been here for years ever since. The gym has a mixture of students across all levels, with different backgrounds and reasons for training - it’s easy to find great people to learn with. Horizon offers a variety of classes across a packed timetable, with affordable prices for both PAYG and monthly membership. The welcoming atmosphere makes for an easier first session for those nervous beginners new to the practice. Jon is a knowledgeable and experienced coach who dives deep into the methodology behind how we learn. The atmosphere Jon facilitates ensures you’ll find yourself developing skills whilst enjoying yourself with everyone else on the mats.

I did BJJ here for around 3 months while I was working in the area. Top quality training by Jon, I was made to feel incredibly welcome. I miss training here, and if I'm ever in the area I will definitely be going back.

I started about 8+ weeks ago and I absolutely love it there! When I first started I felt quite nervous because I had never done anything like it, but Jon and everyone there has made me feel so comfortable, everyone there is all so lovely and helpful. Jon explains everything so well, make it’s all very easy to understand and is always happy to help! I really recommend Horizon, I try to go 2-3 times a week and I look forward to going to every lesson!

Jiu-jitsu is an extremely technical sport, which takes years to master. After a lot of thought, I signed up for the beginner course, but still a bit reluctant as I was stepping into a new environment. However, Jon, my mentor who led the course, made it very easy for me to start and a took a calm methodical approach to teaching me as a beginner. Being able to see slowed down demonstrations of real-life situations was extremely helpful. Jon's explanations of techniques were eloquent, practical, and easy to understand. Starting a new sport is always the hardest part, but having a great teacher helps calm the nerves and makes it enjoyable, so you keep coming back to learn more. I couldn't recommend this place more for beginners or people wanting a new challenge. Amazing people all round!

Fantastic place to learn BJJ and meet new people. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the coaches are all helpful and keen to share knowledge. I started training several months ago after putting it off for a long while and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
