I can't give this place enough stars. I started BJJ a little over a year ago and I had tried out 4 other gyms before deciding this was where to start my Jiu Jitsu journey. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. The coaching is top tier and it shows through all the athlete and team titles/championships. I can't say enough about Jay and his staff. Whether you are just starting out or a veteran in the game, the Jay Pages family is there to help you reach and surpass your goals.

Great people, great gym, huge space! Jay’s an excellent instructor, and the schedule has a ton of options to accommodate busy professionals. The mats are always clean, there’s a ton of mat space available, and there’s a gym if you want to get a lift in as well.

I love this gym. I started by attending their open mats on Sundays. The rolls and people in attendance were always next level. I've recently addended their women's only, 301 competition and wrestling classes. I really enjoy the teaching style and all the coaches. I feel safe while training there and look forward to continuing my progress at Jay Pages.

If you’re contemplating starting brazilian jiu jitsu, you came to the right place. Jay and his team create a very welcoming environment for all comers. The gym is open all week, filled with classes to match your schedule. There’s a class for everyone whether you’re brand new to the game or a seasoned competitor. If you’re a BJJ nerd or competitor, this is the place to be at in Arizona. Not only will you be able to train along some of the best active grapplers in state but also learn from one of the best minds in the game. This gym cultivates a learning environment in many ways. One, is by hosting the annual BJJ globetrotters Arizona camp which unites BJJ coaches from all over the world for a week long seminar. In addition, Coach Jay incorporates the latest training methodologies such as the ecological dynamics approach to learning which is currently revolutionizing the sport of BJJ. If you follow the sport, you will realize that Coach Jay always incorporates the latest technical advancements that are being used at the highest levels of the game. The gym culture is great like one big family and you will not find a better price for the value you’re receiving.

Everyone is super friendly, the instructors are amazing, the level of competition and athletes in the gym are world class for those that want to get on the big stage and those that just want to chill and learn, you couldn't ask for a better learning environment. I've traveled to many of the affiliate gyms and each welcomes you as family from day 1 as well. This is the place to be.

I love being a part of the Jay Pages BJJ community. As someone who is very new to jiu jitsu, I wasn't confident in finding a gym that was welcoming and would help me start my journey. I am so glad to have found this gym - the instruction is great, even for someone who is brand new, the community is fantastic, and I've met a lot of people that I now consider friends. If you're looking for a BJJ gym, a place to learn self defense in a safe environment, or just want to improve your fitness without having to fight hordes of 17 year old's for a spot at the bench press....I cannot recommend Jay Pages enough. 6 out of 5 stars

I am impressed by Jay Pages Academy. I have traveled and trained across the country for the last three and a half years, this academy is one of the best I've visited. As an instructor, Jay is thorough and knowledgeable. Hes one of the hardest working instructors I've trained under. I was impressed to see him at the 6AM and competition classes while being the head instructor. He invests his time and effort in back to back classes. This is reflected through his talented technical students. I felt welcomed by Jay and his students the minute I walked through the door. The gym has a fantastic culture, super welcoming, competitive and a safe environment to train in. The gym also offers a lot of ammenities, multiple classes to fit anyones schedule and the instruction is world class. I cannot say enough good things about Jay Pages. Thank you, Jay. I greatly appreciate the hospitality and generousity you've showed since I’ve walked through your door.

One year update: The twins are now 8 with one year under their belts. I registered my nephew as well. The kids continue to thrive. The gym is now more of a family environment. The twins have more friends at Jiu jitsu than school. It is a tight knit community. I can’t speak highly enough about this gym. My twins started in December of 2021. I was tired of getting home from work and finding them glued to some sort of screen. I did my research and picked BJJ. Then we went to find a proper gym for them to train. We went to three gyms before we picked Jay Pages. I know I picked the best gym for my kids. Professor Jay is amazing and made us feel welcome. All the kids coaches are amazing. You can really tell they care. Coach Victor helps the twins in his personal time. It shows the dedication of this gym. I like how they ask the kids to sign up for tournaments. The twins have competed twice. My daughter won Gold in her last competition and my son got silver. I like that there is an emphasis on competition. The adults that train at the gym are also very nice. The regulars say hi and make us feel welcome. This gym has a family vibe to it. The other parents are super nice and it is awesome watching their kids progress. The gym is also very clean and the mat space is huge. Jiu jitsu has really helped my kids. My daughter in particular. She was shy and had self esteem problems. Now she is winning gold medals and getting good grades in school.

I've been wanting to start BJJ for about 5 years now but one thing after another has provided easy excuses to prevent me from getting started. I finally made the decision but wanted to make sure I picked a legit spot. I asked a friend of mine who is a black belt at another gym and he said without hesitation to train with Jay. I’ve been attending for only a month, so I was a bit apprehensive about writing a review, but I realized it’s actually the perfect time to write one. I’m brand new to the sport/art of BJJ. I really had no idea what to expect or even what the hell I was doing when I walked in (and still don’t), which I imagine is similar to a lot of you reading through the reviews. My experience has been incredible – on my first day, I walked in the front door and awkwardly stood by the front desk before class. Jay came over, introduced himself, gave me a quick rundown on where to put my stuff then welcomed me with the rest of the class to the mat. He introduced me to the class and everyone came over to shake my hand and introduce themselves. Then I paired up with a few of the higher belts who were extremely gracious with their training time and patient with me, walking me through some of the fundamentals we were learning that day. EVERYONE has been incredibly friendly and supportive in the BJJ 101 classes. Jay teaches in a way that’s easy to follow (for someone with no combat sports background), goes above and beyond to be friendly and welcoming, and has clearly cultivated a culture of family in his gym. I’m super glad that I made the decision to show up, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead!

We started our BJJ journey a few years ago at a gym in Texas. We loved it, compete often, and we honestly giving a lot of the local competitors a run for their money. We decided to take a cross country road trip and every stop we would check out the local gym. We came by Jay’s and we’re welcomed with open arms… then we started training… WOW… gave us a run for our money. Made us realize the Jits at Jays is on a whole different level than ANYWHERE we have been. We ended up moving to AZ just to train with Jay and his team. We have compete under Jay against some of the hardest competition we have faced; Jay and his crew has took our Jits to a level I never thought we could be at, being 40, never thought it was possible. Additionally, his wife Lisa, who is also one of the baddest black belts I have ever met, has one of the BEST female only classes, her spider guard is amazing, I hated it before, now it’s part of my regular game. Beyond the training, it IS AN ACTUAL FAMILY SETTING. We’ve been to other gyms where they act like that… as long as you pay tuition, with Jay… I kept having to remind him to charge me, but dude gave me and my entire family of 4 two months for free, even after I kept a trying to pay him he would just say ‘Nah bro, you just moved here, get settled first.’ Not only is it the BEST JITS in AZ if not the entire West Coast (I’d say even North America) Jay seems to work with everyone, like he JUST wants you to do Jits and train. I have NEVER met a Gym Owner and Coach with more integrity, kindness, and generosity. He has not only changed my jits for the better, but has become a really good friend, in such a short amount of time. If you would ask me, it is a privilege and honor to train under Jay and his team.

I did an open mat at jays before moving to Arizona 6 months ago and immediately knew this was the gym I was looking for. Having moved to Phoenix to pursue jiu jitsu more seriously, I could not have found a better gym and instructor. Everyone is super welcoming and it’s been very easy to make friends with the people who train there. The 6 am class is focused on fundamentals and full of lots of tough guys. The “sub squad” practices on week nights and weekends are the toughest rounds I’ve ever gotten. If you’re looking for an amazing community and world class instruction, look no further. I can’t say enough good about Jay and his gym. It doesn’t matter what you’re looking for or what level you are, Jay Pages Jiu Jitsu has it all. Plus we have the best open mat in the valley every Sunday. I also want to note just how much Jay puts into everyone who competes: the last tournament I did he literally ran across the mats just to make sure he cornered me. You won’t find a better gym in the valley.

The value, camaraderie, and culture at Jay's is unmatched. I have been to multiple gyms here in Phoenix and I travel and visit other gyms nation wide. Jay has developed a friendly environment for people starting their jujitsu journey and a system for those trying to compete with the best. stop by an open mat on Saturday to see the facility or join an open class and you will see why he doesn't have to have six month contracts that lock you in

Jay and his staff of teachers are amazing. Great environment that caters to every one from children, to beginner adults, to the seasoned BJJ veterans. I would highly recommend anyone that's looking for a good Jiu Jitsu gym to check this out!

This place is awesome!!! I started again just a little over a month and can’t get enough! Great environment and awesome group of people. Everyone has been very welcoming and extremely helpful! Jay really loves his students and this sport, he will answer all questions no matter how simple or silly it may be. He caters to every skill level and simplifies it to the most basic level so that you’re all squared away. Come on in and get your roll on!

I moved to the valley six months ago without knowing anybody in the state of Arizona. I researched local BJJ gyms in the area and Jay Pages is the first one I visited. I was welcomed by Jay, the other instructors, and teammates from my very first class at his academy. It did not take long to notice that Jay truly enjoys sharing his vast jiu-jitsu knowledge and watching his students grow as competitors and as individuals. There are morning and evening classes so even if you have a hectic work schedule you will be able to find a session that works for you. The atmosphere is relaxed but every class he challenges you to walk out the door a better practitioner and person than when you came in. Do yourself a favor and stop by the academy, you won’t regret your decision.

My experience as an affiliate Dave Farias BJJ student of Jay Pages Jiu Jitsu/98/CTA has been one of the best experiences in my life! Jay's tutelage via his own welcoming, inviting nature and through his well recognized instructors is second to none; evoking a sense of preparedness, focus and pride. The comprehensive curriculum offered here truly caters to all skill sets from Beginner to National/World Competition Levels including but not limited to strength, cardio, conditioning and some of the best Gi/No Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instruction in the valley. We are all truly recognized, appreciated and accepted as family right from jump and through our affiliations are able to build, network and learn; encouraged and supported by Jay Pages, his staff and anyone who has had the pleasure to step on his mats. Speaking of mats, they are some of the best maintained, well kept, clean training surfaces you can find, cleaned daily by their own students and instructors! Thank you for all you offer our community.

Jay is not only a great instructor, but a great overall person, and the entire school reflects this attitude. Everyone is very welcoming, helpful, and respectful. The facility is also great- very big and always clean. Highly recommend checking out Jays, for both beginners and advanced students.

Jay is a jiu-jitsu genius and runs a great school. He promoted me to blue belt earlier this year and constantly shows new techniques that haven't even entered my frame of consciousness. Overall the culture at the school is very welcoming and relaxed. There are a lot of high level guys that train here and I'm always pushed to my limits while having a great time. I highly recommend checking it out.

My daughter is 5 and started training here about two months ago! She absolutely loves it; coaches are great with the kids; lots of kids but they always have three instructors so they all get plenty of hands on training. I highly recommend Jay's!!

I travel across the country for work and always try to find somewhere to roll when possible. I’ve been to a lot of places and I can say Jay’s is top notch. Great class, awesome community and top notch private lessons. One of the best I’ve been to! I especially enjoyed my private lesson with Chuck Reybourn (thanks again Chuck!) Hope to come back some time.

My son attended this gym for a short time last year. We decided to switch gyms for a few reasons. One of those being that we felt as though the teachers/coaches tended to group the children, of all ages, into the same class and teach them the same thing. We felt as though this doesn't really work with our 5/6 year old, as he was being taught the same thing, in the same way, as the 12, 14, 16 year olds in the class. They also didn't make the learning fun for them (in our opinion), and we saw our son struggling to follow along as he was a beginner and they weren't teaching him as though he was. They'd use terms he wasn't familiar with and expect him to just know what it meant. We found ourselves feeling the need to shout out to him an explanation of whatever the coach had directed him to do. The other, more minor but still significant, reason is they let it get extremely hot in their gym. Especially during the summer. I'm not sure how children can be expected to learn and perform their best in such a hot and humid environment. It's probably fine (although uncomfortable) for grown adults, but I don't think it's good for kids. Even I was struggling to focus on the coaches because of how hot and uncomfortable I was. They do have large (very loud) fans, but they don't cool it down enough. Those fans also make it incredibly difficult for my son to hear what the coach was saying. I'm giving more stars than I normally would, only because I can see how the gym is beneficial for older children and adults. My husband also trained there for a short time, and he had a decent time there and felt like he was taught basic things. I just don't believe this gym is right for young children. We found another place that is wonderful for young kids and teaches them in a fun and easy way for them to understand.

So everyone is really nice there and the place is below the average price. Way below if you wait for a deal. But during classes Jay tends to zone out after he teaches a technique and you see him staring at his phone texting away. There's inconsistencies with lesson plans and a rourune is never stuck to. I had several missed private lessons as well with no call no show. Then when I got injured it took several messages and conversations to stop payment. Wouldn't be that bad but, I was out of work from surgeries from the injury and caused over drafts. Said he would pay the money back, been a while and ain't seen a dime. Lesson learned.
