Shawn Hammonds was very welcoming to my son and allowed him to have some practice time while we were traveling in Nashville. Very grateful and loved the atmosphere.

Professor Shawn has been one of my Coaches for several years now I’ve made multiple trips to his academy and it’s drastically improved my game. You can really tell how much Shawn loves his students, he makes sure to take time out for everyone during class and never leaves anyone behind. Proud to be a TSH black belt for life!

Excellent instruction and great group of people to train with! People of all sizes train here and my jiu jitsu has improved greatly because of this. If you are a woman who is apprehensive about training with men, there are enough women to exclusively train with women (just let one of the black belts know). I appreciate Shawn’s welcoming me and my family in at a transitional period and cannot thank him enough!

Have had the opportunity to train with Shawn and some of the team quite a bit over the last few years. I cannot say enough good about everyone! If you have the opportunity to take a class or if you’re looking for a gym in the Nashville area, 10/10 recommended.

This is hands down the best martial arts training I’ve ever had. The all black belt instruction is unparalleled—Professor Shawn’s fundamentals class lays a solid foundation, and his competition classes are no joke. Professor Nakana’s advanced class pushes boundaries, and Cameron Brock’s no-gi sessions are top-tier. The atmosphere here is all about growth and camaraderie. Plus, Coach Nicholle’s Saturday morning ladies class, which my wife loves, fosters a supportive community for women in BJJ. The instructors' dedication to each student’s progress is evident in every session. If you’re even mildly interested in BJJ, whether gi or no-gi, give this place a try—you won’t be disappointed. They genuinely create champions, both on and off the mat.

I love it here! Professor Shawn and the rest of the team, from coaches to white belts on their first day, really created something special. The training is tough, high level and fun. This gym makes Nashville feel like home.

I’ve trained at TSH for over a year and I’ve had so much support and progress from this crew. I was completely out of shape and nervous to jump in with these impressive folks. I was immediately surprised how many people here at the gym welcomed me and worked with me to become a better and more fit me. I consider everyone here family at this point and I continue to improve. This community has incredible talent and the urge to share. Shawn Hammonds and his team are incredible and eager to share their impressive knowledge with anyone walking through the door for their first time. I would encourage anyone anyone to show up and give it a try. You will find a team that has your best interest in mind.

I tried a lot of academies, looking for one where I felt at home. I was looking for a place that had high skill practitioners with very low ego. This place nails that combo. The team is very down to earth, and are incredibly helpful in helping newbs develop their game. They also get after it, and will challenge you to learn and grow. Many of the other gyms I tried, that carry a person's name on the front, don't have that many classes by said person. Not here. Professor Hammonds is on the mat with us daily. Getting to learn directly from someone of his skill level is a real gift. I am happy to call this gym home, and look forward to years of training under Coach Hammonds.

A great place to train. Been working on striking/MMA and have to say coaches Travell Boone and Dominic Martin are amazing at what they do. Very attentive, knowledgeable, experienced, and great at tailoring each class based on who shows up. The whole place has a great family atmosphere and is perfect for anyone at any skill level. Nothing lazy or inauthentic about this place and it shows in their constant BJJ/MMA competition wins.

It is easily the best instruction as well as the environment I've experienced. From the bottom to the top, it's what martial arts is about here. Growth.

Best thing ever for my 6 year old! He has been training for only a month now and the self confidence boost and skills learned are mind blowing. Hindsight is always 20/20, but this time it’s totally different than what you’d expect… I’ve paid for 1 month so far, had they charged me for an entire year up front, then “cancelled” after 4 weeks, I’d still feel we got more than our money’s worth and not be upset at all. AMAZING and HIGHLY recommend to all parents, such an amazing crew that you can tell care about our boy and are exceptional at teaching even the younger ages. Zero hesitation recommending SHJJ to all and so grateful we found them.

This was my first time to Shawn's new facility, but I've been at a Team Shawn Hammonds (TSH) affiliate gym for almost 15 years and trained with Shawn directly on a few occasions during seminars and team training and Shawn's facilities and training are second to none! Anywhere from novice to high level competitors will surely have an excellent experience at any TSH facility!

Shawn Hammonds is, kind hearted, patient, and generous, while being an absolute monster. You’ll find no better BJJ instructor. You’ll find no one more willing to give his efforts to support your goals. You’ll find no one more likely to give his coat to a stranger. And he makes it really fun to learn how to beat people up and break their bones. Oh - you’ll get in great shape too. Don’t take my word for it. Come visit.

Shawn has been a good and loyal friend since about 1998. I've watched him go from a white belt to a 4th degree Blackbelt and champion. He has an incredible pedigree with great technical abilities, he knows how to train champions. If your wanting to compete, or train for self defense purposes, Shawn Hammonds BJJ is the place to train. It is a family environment that fosters life long friendships. As an instructor, he is incredible, giving technical details that will make your experience 2nd to none. Many of his Blackbelts attend class on a daily bases and are there to help. This fosters a wonderful training environment and increases a student's learning potential. Lastly, don't ever think your too old to train and learn. Step out to a new adventure, you won't regret joining Team Shawn Hammonds!

I heard about Shawn in florida from a client and when I got to Nashville I heard his name again and walked into his academy and met him. I couldn’t see myself training anywhere else in Nashville! The level of respect and teaching Shawn and his team have is absolutely amazing. Pretty much every class I have been to there has been 3-5 black belts in class and helping coach which I’ve never seen. I can already see and feel my progress with Shawn Hammond’s Jiu jitsu. Thankful for him and the team here! Come try out a class if you’re in the fence. Such a great and safe atmosphere.

Shawn and his instructors are absolutely amazing. They teach fundamental techniques in an in-depth way that makes sense for all ranks. They prioritize their students and work to make a safe training environment for all students. Shawn has made an effort to emphasize a women's program that provides extremely high level instruction.
