After being to more than a dozen martial arts gyms, I can say that I will stay here forever. It's not just a great gym to learn technique, but also a heartwarming community. Liberdade is my home in Nashville. Alex and Milton are the best and the most lovable coaches you can ever ask for.

If you want to change your life, train with Milton and Alex. After being a couch potato, I decided to try something new and go to a jiu jitsu class. I was greeted immediately by Alex’s warm smile, and given a gi and put on the mats for warm ups and class. Not knowing at all what I signed up for, i loved the environment and honestly got a killer work out. Now nearly three years later, i have progressed into a more confident version of myself with a community that truly builds you up on and off the mats.

Liberdade is a great school to train at. Alex and Milton both have high level jiu jitsu but more importantly are able to effectively share their knowledge to the students in a fun environment. This gym is must if you’re in town to visit or if you’re looking to begin or continue your jiu jitsu journey.

Love this place. It is a great facility that offer a big mat size, very clean and the instructors are very attentive to all the students. Milton and Alex are top notch instructors with many national and international titles in BJJ and you will be able to see this talent in the classes you will get. I really recommend this place. You will not get disappointed if you try it. The first class is always FREE so don’t wait for try it.

This place is amazing. Professor Milton is a high level Jiu Jitsu player and also a great teacher. On top of that, the culture that he and Professor Alex have cultivated here is welcoming and respectful. I have been fortunate enough to drop in here twice during my travels. If I lived in the area I wouldn’t hesitate to join this academy. I was also able to see the tail end of kids classes on both of my visits and can say that they do a great job with them as well.

I had a FANTASTIC experience dropping in to Liberdade Jiu Jitsu. I am a purple belt who likes to drop in to gyms in cities where I travel and let me tell you that Liberdade is one of the best I've ever done. The space was clean, the instruction was high level, and the rolls were tough. Highly recommend!

An absolute gem of an academy. I've visited on 2 separate occasions whilst in Nashville for work. I've been training for almost 15 years, habing trained and competed all over the world and you will not find a more welcoming and friendly place to train. And that's before I mention that it's run by a bjj legend and one of pioneers of the modern game. I have admired his style since my blue belt days. Milton and his partner have created a world class facility that I count myself fortunate to have experienced. I wish I could have spent more time there, soaking up some of Milton's wisdom and will certainly drop in if I find myself in Nashville again. May they have great success 🙌

I was visiting the area with my family and was able to drop in on the Friday 530 class. It was a large class with a lot of belt color variety. Everyone was extremely welcoming and nice upon my arrival (especially with people training for pans). Technical instruction and very tough rolls. Thank you for the hospitality Liberdade!

I’ve been going here for almost 9 months now, and let me tell you this is the gym you need to be apart of! I started to look into BJJ 9 months ago to learn self defense and build on my wrestling background. Getting into this sport can be very intimidating, but Milton and Alex have built such an incredible culture that the minute you walk in you are greeted with a smile and a hug (before they choke you out)! They are incredible coaches and even better people. Coming to class is the best part of my week! Definitely check the gym out! You won’t be disappointed!

Super clean facility, home of world champions, great teaching, and great rolls. I was just visiting for a seminar and had a ton of fun and was immediately welcomed. There was a good mix of men & women of varying belt levels too so you could easily find rolls with other similarly experienced individuals.

I was visiting the area and took the 6:30 AM class. I immediately felt welcomed as soon as I walked in the door by Professor Milton and his students. The class was excellent and was easy to understand due to how professor Milton breaks down the moves. I will definitely go back next time I am in the area!

Best gym in Nashville. Reasonably priced, curteous and respectful to all belts. Individually focussed despite the group training. Peers are respectful and general environment is made to learn and grow without any judgement. I have made great friends for life and we all would hang out after gym often. Alex and Milton are humble and probably the best trained mentors you can find. You can alwasy find free parking around they gym. Highly suggest anyone and everyone give the gym a try despite your specific level of training.

I moved to Nashville four months ago and my biggest concern was finding a jiu jitsu gym that would resemble the family culture I had at my previous gym of 7 years. I tried out Liberdade BJJ the same night I arrived at Nashville and signed up at the end of class. Milton and Alex are amazing at both jiu jitsu and great human beings. Even though they are very accomplished they treat everyone the same with huge smiles on their face. From the new white belt learning how - to forward roll to the multiple high level black belts that show up to train. To put it simply I am glad that it was their gym I walked into that day or else I'd still be searching for a new home gym. Thanks guys!

Something I picked up as curiosity has now become my passion and daily workout routine. Thanks to Alex and Milton who have good heart and are professional, warm and have welcoming nature. They have great group of students to practice with and you will inevitably build friendship … great spirit and all belt levels are treated with same love and respect. They teach self defence for women for beginners as well. Must join.

Professors Milton and Alex are the BEST. No matter what your level (skill, fitness, athleticism, commitment), they will welcome you and inspire you to grow in ways you can’t imagine. No pressure, no hard sell, no ego ... just trust in their ability to consistently provide a world-class training environment. Others will laud their long list of accomplishments, supportive gym culture, and inspiration on and off the mats. All true things! 100. My family had trained with them for years before they moved, and their gym was a constant source of joy for us. I would add that they see every student as an individual and are able to help each one improve. They teach a technique to the class, but have decades of experience to be able to give advice and adjustments for your specific style, build, strength and weakness. Questions are always answered honestly and with consideration. And if they don’t know the answer right away, they will take the time to think on it and get back to you. They share history, details, stories - it makes learning fun. You will develop such an appreciation and respect for jiujitsu. Nashville is so lucky! My home gym will always be wherever Milton & Alex train ♥️. Best wishes!!

Nashville is lucky to have Liberdade ji jitsu led by Milton!!! Nashville now has world class jiu jitsu being offered with Milton’s several world titles ( you read that right, multiple world titles). I trained under Milton for 6 years in California going from Purple to black belt and I am only one of many black belts that he has created. My jiu jitsu was mediocre to say the least until I started training with him. His ability to communicate his technical expertise is second to none (once you get past the accent lol). Milton creates an environment in the gym that is super chill and fun, but don’t think you are not gonna get a workout in during your sessions. So stop shopping around and go drop in it will only take one class for you to know that his BJJ is legit. I can’t wait to go visit!

Milton and Alex are amazing teachers and human beings! They are great competitors, but not all great champions are great teachers. I look forward to my trainings everyday. The classes are fun, interactive and quality of the teaching is unmatched. They genuinely care about you, the one you want to have in your life. Their academy quickly become my happy safe place, and the people you meet and train with become your friends for life.

The facility is absolutely beautiful... it's spacious, and clean and you can tell a lot of love went into designing it. The couple that owns it, Alex and Milton, are perfection. Not only are they World Champion's with vast amounts of knowledge to teach, but they are so much fun, and make you feel like family instantly! I can guarantee there's no other place like it in Nashville.

The first time I went to their gym felt like a seminar, even if it was just a regular Tuesday. The techniques we were drilling on that day were way more advanced and precise compared to my previous school. I trained with Alex and Milton for 2 years in the Bay Area, i really loved the experience. They helped me to improve my game in all aspects. I am a hobbyist competitor and thanks to their attention to my training I was able to improve fast. I’m glad I was able to develop a friendship with them, they’re very nice and hardworking people. I wish them all the best in their new gym
