My daughter Aaliyah was able to do a drop in class while we are here on vacation. She had an amazing time. She was welcomed in by everyone. She really enjoyed training with all the coaches and students. Aaliyah came out saying she wanted to move out here so she could keep training with everyone. No better endorsement! Thank you for giving her the opportunity to experience your gym! We will definitely be back in our next trip out here.

My daughter and son have been training at Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu, and it has been such a great experience for our family. Their confidence has grown and they’ve really enjoyed the challenge of learning something new. The flexible schedule has been a huge plus for us, and the instructors are fantastic-patient, encouraging, and really tuned in to each child’s individual progress. They push the kids to do their best while still keeping things fun and comfortable. We’re very happy we found this place and would highly recommend it to any family looking for a supportive and positive environment for their kids.

Our family has had an amazing experience at Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club. My two daughters, ages 7 and 9, have been training here for the past year, and I joined myself about six months ago at age 48. From day one, the environment has been welcoming, positive, and truly family-oriented. Professor Mike, Professor Fabian, coach Leticia and all the other coaches do a fantastic job teaching and instructing students of all ages and skill levels. They emphasize not only strong jiu-jitsu fundamentals, but also respect, self-confidence, discipline, and teamwork. I’ve watched my daughters grow into stronger, more confident girls who are encouraged to be leaders and positive contributors to their community. As an adult student, I’ve also felt supported, challenged, and included. The culture here is about learning, growth, and supporting one another, not ego. Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club has become more than just a gym for us—it’s a community we’re grateful to be part of. Highly recommend to families, kids, and adults looking for excellent instruction and a truly positive training environment.

Our five-year-old daughter has been doing jiu-jitsu here for a few months now and we absolutely love it. We love that she really likes all of her instructors and she feels excited to go each time. The schedule is awesome because you can go up to six days a week, as opposed to many children’s programs that just offer one day a week for a class. So it’s not a big deal if you have to miss a class here or there, you can go plenty of other days. Our daughter especially looks forward to Saturday class, when there are donuts! This has been the best program for our daughter. Also, the parents that have their kids enrolled are also very nice. My husband enjoys working out in the related facility while our daughter is in class. Our family has also enjoyed the fun events throughout the year, making it feel like a community. 10/10!

What an amazing place. Visiting family over the holidays and wanted to get a couple rolls in. Dropped in along with my two daughters (14 and 16). Professor Mike was extremely welcoming and kind. Got a roll in with him. His level of grappling is pretty insane. 3 other black belts on the mat. Great range of levels at every belt. Great vibe. The weight room looked amazing. This would be my home gym if I lived here 100%. Will be back every time I visit.

I showed up to Del Mar Jiu Jitsu Club with zero experience in any type of martial arts. After my free first class, I was hooked. The environment that Mike and his staff create is the best of the best. The facilities are clean, the instructors are so knowledgeable, kind, talented, and caring. The classes are challenging and inclusive. I immediately felt like part of a community when I stepped onto the mat. I could not recommend DMJJC more.

I've dropped in at Del Mar Jiu Jitsu Club a few times and each time it's been really good. The professors and coaches are amazing and all are welcoming. I came early for a class and watched the kids class and the instruction for the kids were really good and they made it fun for them. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a school to train at in the Del Mar area. Good hard training but really fun and welcoming.

As a former two sport division 1 athlete (football/wrestling) and a former two sport professional athlete (football/mma) I've had the privilege of training at some of the most highly regarded facilities in the country, with some of the best athletes on the planet (in their time). Now that I'm older and less inclined to travel and compete like I once did, I needed a place that fulfilled the need that most men from ANY walk of life have and that's community and belonging. Besides having, in my opinion, some of the very best instructors you can find in San Diego County, the sense of brotherhood is second to none. If you are training jiu jitsu anywhere near DMJJC and you don't feel like you can depend on the people you train with or don't consider them family, maybe its time to swing by DMJJC and see if its a better fit for you.

My teenage son has been training in jiu-jitsu practically all his life and has been training at Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club for almost a year. I can't recommend it enough. Here's why: 1. Facilities: The training area is spacious and well-equipped, perfect for takedowns and throws. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, you'll find the facilities top-notch. By the way, Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club is a BJJ club with a well-equipped gym with everything you may need for strength and conditioning. You can train while your sons or daughters practice! 2. Coaches: Coach Mike, Coach Fabian, and the rest of the team are true professionals. Their passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu shines through in every class. They've competed at high levels and brought that expertise to their teaching. Their dedication to their students' growth is commendable. 3. My Son's Experience: As a parent, I appreciate Coach Michel's no-nonsense approach to discipline, character building, and hard work, which has been instrumental in the development of my 16-year-old. He never stops providing personalized guidance and mentorship. That in itself is worth every penny I pay. 4. A World of Martial Arts: Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club offers a diverse range of classes, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (GI and NO-Gi), and Judo. This variety allows your child to explore different martial arts disciplines under one roof, fostering a well-rounded training experience. 5. I started jiujitsu when I was 4 and I’ve been to many different jiujitsu gyms looking for the best training and Del Mar is probably the best. Professor Mike is patient and explains all of his technique throughly, he’s helped me achieve many goals I have for jiujitsu and continues to help me.

As a 40 something year old with some preexisting injuries, I was somewhat trepidatious about entering the world of BJJ. Mike Phelps and the staff at Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club not only accommodated me on the mat, helping me to work around injuries, but welcomed me into an eclectic community whose members are as interesting off the mat as they are intense on it. Mike has managed to create a competitive environment that is physically and mentally challenging while being incredibly supportive. He recognizes that each of us have different strengths and limitations and approaches teaching as though we are individuals. There is nothing cookie-cutter about his program or philosophy. All in all an incredible experience I would recommend to any adult interested in learning the art and building community in the process.

My four-year-old son Justin recently enrolled at Del Mar Jiu Jitsu, and we couldn't be happier with our decision! The instructors are incredibly patient and skilled, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for young children. Jaden absolutely loves his classes and looks forward to each session. The school emphasizes discipline, respect, and hard work, which are invaluable lessons both on and off the mat. The sense of community here is fantastic, and it's clear that Mike and his team genuinely care about their students. Del Mar Jiu Jitsu has been a wonderful experience for Jaden, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch Jiu Jitsu school.

Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu is absolutely fantastic! I've had the pleasure of using their strength training facility and working with Brett Wheeless for personal training. Brett has been great to work with and I've really enjoyed the facility. Mike, the owner, is a great guy. He knows his craft well and has done an excellent job bringing in top notch equipment and highly knowledgeable staff. Our pediatrician recommended we try jiu jitsu for our son and we’ve been so happy with our choice of Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club. Our son has thrived at Del Mar and found something that he both has fun with and also takes very seriously. Donut Saturdays and dodgeball are always a favorite, but he loves to compete and respects his coaches immensely. The coaches are caring but tough and extremely communicative. We always know he is safe and in a space where he can thrive independently. Whether you’re looking for something fun or more discipline and autonomy, you’ll find it at Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club.

I’ve trained in various forms of martial arts for over twenty years, on both coasts, and this by far the best place I’ve trained. Coaches Mike and Fabian are extremely informative and make sure newcomers have a firm grasp on what’s going on, which really helps. On top of this, they’ve created a really strong community of friendly, dedicated people who train and are always willing to help expound upon a move or break down the specifics of a technique. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a serious gym and the training is top notch. But the vibe is very relaxed and family-like. So much so that I hope to enroll my two children as well. And this is coming from a person who always preferred striking arts to grappling. One class in and these guys made me a believer! Kudos Coach Mike for creating the best jui jitsu gym in all of SoCal, perhaps in the country!

killer jiu jitsu gym! i dropped in recently while visiting family and had a great time. super convenient and tucked location w plenty of parking. very clean and lots of mat space w quality mats and decor, everyone is super nice and welcoming. solid technical instruction and nice tough rounds, but a big range of partners for everyone. if you’re in the greater north county area, highly recommend for drop ins and if you’re local looking for a spot to call home for you or your kids (great kids program), look no further. hopefully back sooner rather than later. thanks Del Mar Jiu Jitsu Club🤙

Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club provides world-champion level instruction across classes of all ages. Mike and his team do a wonderful job emphasizing quality -- ensuring each student receives ample 1-on-1 training attention throughout the develop of their Jiu-Jitsu journey. The sense of community and positive atmosphere at the club is refreshing. Students are challenged, learn to manage tough training sessions, and come to understand that rewards come from hard work, effort, and consistent practice. Get your kids (and yourself) onto the mats at DMJJC! It will make a lasting, positive impact on their lives. It brings us such joy to see the growth in confidence and discipline development within our kids Mike and his team have helped instill throughout our 8 years as members. 🤝

Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club is one of the most professional yet kindest group of students and coaches I've been around. First and foremost the facility is clean, updated and well maintained. Which imo a lot of places lack. The instructors are friendly, welcoming and very technical. They help me built my confidence level and overall health. We get opportunity to be taught by world multiple world champions and share the mats with them. Not every gym can say that. Overall It’s all good vibes at DMJJ! 🤙🏽

DMJJ club I started back up my Jiu jitsu journey here , I needed to get my health in check physically and mentally. I relearned to be more active and consistent and to treat myself better. Professor Mike helped me a lot pushing , encouraging, and doing it all right along side of us all . The facilities are definitely top notch with the right team to lead. Recovery lab was my favorite i had my first cold plunge here and that was a game changer.

Being a part of this industry for over 20+ years I’ve had the pleasure of having visited and trained in many different gyms all across the globe. That said, I have to say, every time I come back to Del Mar Jiu Jitsu it feels like I’m home. It’s a place where I feel totally comfortable with all my emotions whether vulnerable or confident, weak or strong. The space that is provided is for more than just learning Jiu Jitsu. It’s for creating and becoming great humans. It’s for those who seek self growth, but just like anywhere else you look for growth it always starts with you. Next you need a great support team around you. Here is where you’ll find it. Michael Phelps and his team are dedicated to unlocking your true potential through the adversity and vast learning curve of Jiu Jitsu. They’ve also added a 24hr self access gym right next door and are continuing to expand grow both their wellness, recovery, and fitness offering. Whether you’re a youth being forced by your parents to go (which is actually a blessing and you are very fortunate so quit yer whining and get to class) or you’re an adult looking to start or continue your Jiu Jitsu journey, you’ve come to the right place. Del Mar Jiu Jitsu is a fun family environment that promotes growth and positivity, and all you have to do is show up. Tell em Uncle Tone sent you.

Our son has been training here for almost 4 years and still loves it. He is taught, challenged, supported and mentored. He even chose the owner Mr. Mike as the most influential person to honor at his school if that tells you anything about the community here. Yes, the Jiu Jitsu training is world class, that is a given. What truly sets this place apart is the owner and his instructors and the way they teach and inspire the kids, combined with the talent and experience here. They are NOT part time hobby teachers - they are knowledgeable, champion competitors that are the best in this sport. There are so many things pulling at kid's attention right now, and to have an organization, owner, staff and community that truly care about these kids means everything. It teaches Jiu Jitsu, of course, but also mentoring, school support, giving back, respect, hard work, and accountability.

This club is fantastic. The environment Michael creates for leaning is right on. My son is 12 and literally begs to get down there and train. I'm blown away with how much he has learned down there in just a few months. The instructors/coaches are literally some of the best in the world at their art..also very funny with the kiddos. Best gym I’ve ever been a member at. Great equipment and gear, never crowded and overall good vibe and good community. None of the commercial gym crowds and teen crowd. Also, dogs!

Great community and incredible instructors. The instructors are consistently medaling at the highest levels of competition and still incredibly approachable and attentive. Everyone here will continuously encourage you to improve. I trained in the adult classes and brought my little cousins to try the kids' classes and we always had a great time

Delmar jiu-jitsu has to be one of the cleanest facilities of its kind. Michael and all his instructors are top-notch professionals and helped me and my children. They are patient and stern. one of my other favorite things is their strength training facility. I don’t leave a lot of reviews, but I had to go out of my way for these guys keep up the hard work, fellas.

My daughter began her journey with Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club in 2021 and a month after had my son join as well. She was only 5 and her brother was 4 years old. My son had a typical 4 year old attention span and was very active. Coach Mike has a natural gift when it comes to these youngsters. I've personally witnessed not only my own son’s growth but countless others as well. We are more like a family at Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club and all these kids share a very special bond. Developmentally, you can watch the kids progress as they transform within only a matter of weeks. Whether your goal is just an activity for your child during these troubling times or all out martial arts competition you WILL NOT find a better school than Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu. As a behavior health professional, it blows my mind how great Coach Mike is with all personality types to include kids with developmental issues. In fact, they thrive in this environment. Coach Mike and all the professors worked so hard through these difficult times to provide an outlet that is so desperately needed for all kids. So thankful to have them all as my kids instructors. Come and see for yourself! You will not be disappointed! Most definitely will recommend over and over again!

Just sharing my review for meeting Michael as a person, as he is a customer of mine and when he visited my store at Freestyle Cut & Stitch, he was very knowledgeable and very helpful sharing his knowledge with running a great business and being a good coach. If I were to pursue Jiu Jitsu, Del Mar Jiu Jitsu Club would be my first choice.

Absolutely incredible place and people, I wish I could give more than five stars. It's all one big family there and they openly welcome you as one of their own. Everyone is willing to teach you something - all you have to do is ask. Every instructor is great and really want you to succeed. They're the type of people you want to work hard for because of their support. So glad to have found them. Update: Original review absolutely still holds up. I had my first competition with them as a white belt, ending up third in my bracket, and I felt fully prepared for the experience, walking away feeling accomplished but also knowing there was much more work to be done and training to put in. I unfortunately have not been able to continue for several years due to an injury from a congenital issue that requires surgical correction, but I still keep in touch with everyone and I love seeing the updates on Instagram. Cannot recommend this place and the people enough!

Great place to learn to love the art of Jiu Jitsu. Michael is a wealth of knowledge, accessible to his students and an overall great example to those he comes in contact with. Added bonus, several world champions train there and impart their knowledge to the students as well. A great beacon in the Del Mar community to instill hard work, discipline, confidence and an important physical skill to students young and old.

My boys love going to Del Mar jiu jitsu! They learn discipline and build self confidence in a fun way for the kids. The kids program is really flexible for scheduling around other kid activities. They do donuts after kids classes every Saturday! Highly recommend

My son Ezra has been training at Del Mar Jujitsu Club, and we couldn't be happier with the experience! Coach Mike and Fabian are outstanding – their dedication, skill, and patience have truly made a difference in Ezra's training. All of the instructors at the club are fantastic, providing a supportive and encouraging environment for students of all levels. Ezra loves going to his classes, and we've seen tremendous growth in his confidence and abilities. Del Mar Jujitsu Club is top-notch, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great experience. Ezra highly recommends the donut party after class on Saturday morning

One of the most knowledgeable and cool guys in the game I had a great time training here with Michael. Came here with another team mate of mine with the Raiders and they definitely put us to work. It was awesome. Had to made the trip down several times to get in more work. The energy in that gym is really great man. Life time bond type of ties. Just real genuine dudes that want you to improve yourself as a person and succeed. This is a great community. Couldn’t recommend it more highly if your in the area. Peace

Del Mar Jiu Jitsu Club is where I started training bjj. I trained there for about 5 years before moving away. Professor Phelps has a wealth of knowledge and always made training fun and yet still challenging. I always felt safe while training and the gym was always clean. Great environment for all genders and all ages. If you’re in SD looking to start training, I highly recommend DMJJC.

I’ve been training in bjj for over 20 years, professor Phelps is one of the best instructors that I’ve been lucky enough to learn from. He has a great understanding of old school bjj and is constantly learning and adding the most modern techniques to his library of knowledge. I highly recommend Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu club.

I really can’t say enough great things about this gym. Mike and his family and all the guys he brings in are top notch. My whole family of guys (4) has gone to DMJJ for over a year now and Iv seen such an extreme confidence boost in each of them. I use the gym and have trained with Brett who has been above and beyond my expectations. Love the community family atmosphere they bring, such good people and it’s a complete gem in Del Mar! The owner Michael Phelps embraced me immediately, and made me feel valued as an individual. He only seemed to care about how he could better my life. This club is all about making each other stronger in our personal lives and also in Jiu Jitsu. I started a little over a year ago at 39 years old and it changed my life. Now all 4 of my boys are in Jiu jitsu and I’m seeing so many positive changes in their confidence and behavior. Your never to old or too young to better your life.

Our daughters, aged 8 and 10, have been part of Mike’s BJJ studio for the past year and a half. Their development in the sport has been remarkable, and they both really enjoy BJJ. Mike and his team exhibit exceptional kindness and professionalism, creating a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages every child to excel. The positive atmosphere and strong sense of community at the studio have greatly contributed to our girls’ confidence and discipline, both on and off the mats. We are so grateful for the positive impact this training has had on their lives, fostering not just physical strength but also important values and friendships.

My boys (9yrs & 5 yrs)have both attended DMJJ for three years now. My youngest son started at just 2 years old and my oldest son was 6 yrs old. We dealt with various behavioral issues with both boys (as most parents do) and really needed a solution. DMJJ was it! For parents with challenging kiddos or wild boys who seem untamable the coaches will NOT give up on your kid. Whether crying, screaming, tantrums, behavioral issues they work with you so your child succeeds on the mat and in life. What I most appreciate about DMJJ is the community that the owner Mike has cultivated. My boys look forward to attending classes as much as I look forward to hanging out with the other DMJJ moms. We workout together, walk the beach, run the trails & uplift one another in hard seasons. If you are looking for an outstanding jujitsu program where your entire family will thrive on and off the mat—you’ve found it! DMJJ has been nothing short of a God send to our family! Thank you Mr. Mike & Coach Fabian you’re the best!!!

Not a BJJ member, but I have been using the gym to workout for about 2 years now. The staff is friendly and the gym is spotless and rarely packed, sometimes it feels like it’s my personal gym! And you can smell the ocean while you lift. You really can’t beat it

Very cool place to train. I love the facilities that come with training here like the full gym. The ice bath is my favorite 🥶. Everyone that teaches is super friendly plus world champ Felipe Andrew has some super sick knowledge def recommend coming and trying a class. I tried other schools in the area after mine closed and I’m for sure staying here.

Coach Mike and Coach Fabian have been absolutely incredible! Since enrolling my kids in Jiu-Jitsu at the Del Mar Club, I've witnessed a remarkable transformation in them. Their confidence has soared, their behavior has improved significantly, and they're genuinely excited about each session, eager to learn and grow. I can't thank the coaches enough for the positive impact they've had on my children's lives.

I recently joined DMJJC with no background in Jiu-Jitsu or any martial art. Mike, Fabian and the rest of the staff along with all the members have made me feel welcomed! They are all willing to share their knowledge and experiences in Jiu-Jitsu providing me with a strong foundation. I am older than most, and less conditioned than most, but I feel the amount I am learning in Jiu-Jitsu as well as being healthier and stronger are worth every moment I spend at DMJJC! I look forward to what the future holds with the enthusiasm of my youthful self. There is a saying about Jiu-Jitsu which states, "it's never too late to start and you'll only wish you had started earlier." I am proof of that saying and Mike and the team will ensure it for you too!

This is a great gym, they have world class instructor to help you. Not only that they have a workout room with all the equipment that you would ever need that is open 24 a day. I really love that because no matter what happens you can always find some time to squeeze a workout in. Definitely the best gym around !!!!

Five months ago when I looked around for a jiu jitsu place, I hoped it would cater to both me and my kids. Just from the initial call with Mike, I already felt like us newbies would be welcome. What I didn’t realize was how much more they had to offer. This isn’t just a place to learn jiu jitsu, but a place where kids, young men and women and even adults are being molded into good people within a community of likeminded individuals. I love how both my son and daughter have great male and female roles models to learn from and to model. Keep doing what you’re doing, we love it!

I have my daughter have been training here for the past year. They have absolutely loved their coaches and the classes. One started off a little reluctant due to the contact but has now blossomed into a confident fighter. The other one is a mature and it’s a testament to the coach that they are able to keep her focused and motivated.

My son and daughter, ages 4 and 6 have been going for the last 3 months or so and it has been a great experience for both of them. All of the instructors are SO good with the kids and extremely good at Jiu-Jitsu. Coach Mike truly cares that the kids have a great experience there. In addition to the classes, they have a full gym attached that parents can utilize while their kids are working. Very glad we found this place.

Can’t say enough good things about DMJJC. Our daughter trains here when we are visiting relatives in Del Mar, and she is always welcomed with open arms and treated like a member of the family. The coaching is top notch, and every time she trains she comes out significantly better even after just a week. The facilities are clean and well maintained. If you are in San Diego county look no further. This is the place to train!

Highly recommended! I have 4 kids that have all been students at DJJ over the years. My 12 year old has been with Coach Mike for 7 years. He and his staff are hands down the best!! He has a tough love approach which I appreciate. The kids know to respect him but also know he cares about them and wants to see them grow and succeed. Hard to find nowadays

Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu offers an incredible BJJ + strength & conditioning training experience. Top-notch coaching, an uber-friendly, welcoming community, and positive vibes for all levels of athletes. Professor Mike and Professor Fabian are patient, super knowledgable, and make every session a great time for all. The facility itself is also world-class - you train with fresh ocean air flowing through the studio and views of the San Dieguito River right behind you. They also have a Strength & Conditioning performance center with every single piece of equipment one could ask for. 5 stars!!

Not a BJJ member, but use the gym since the beginning. Our whole family uses the gym (wife and 2 teenage sons). Mike is great. Equipment is top notch and well maintained and gym is kept clean and orderly. Friendly atmosphere. Love having a place close to home to keep myself from becoming a lazy slob. Great individual trainers too if you’re looking for that. Thanks Mike.

I've been taking my son there for almost a year now. The instructors are amazing - my son says they're all nice and encouraging. There are always a lot of kids to train with, which makes it even more fun for him. I actually knew about this place for years but didn't want to sign him up there because of the location (it's a bit of a drive for us). I'm so glad we finally decided on this dojo. I've been to many businesses for my four kids' extra curricular activities (soccer, volleyball, hockey, boxing, music, theatre...) and I can attest Del Mar Jujitsu Club is one of the best places I've taken my kids to. Highly recommended.

Very pleased with Del Mar Jiujitsu. The instruction and teaching are top notch along with how well the facility is kept. I feel safe training here and have started my daughter in the kids class recently, she has had a great experience here as well. The members are friendly and supportive. The bonus of this place is that there is also a separate fitness gym that can be used and is equally well kept.
