My daughter has confidence issues as well as focus issues. She Started out in the trial run and during the First two classes she was so scared she would barely move. She’s Constantly gotten braver and wants to continue after the trial. All the instructors are very friendly and good with kids. The way they explain things is great.
Posted 1 year agoMy son attended a buddy week with his best friend back in October. Since then, he has been hooked! He has only been training for a few months, however, I have already started to notice some positive shifts in behavior. He LOVES the "ninja" warm ups and the games played at the end of the little ninjas class. Personally, I love all the reiteration of stranger danger, when (not) to use Martial arts, and how to handle bullies. All important lessons, especially for young kiddos. Our first 3 month contract is just about up. And I asked him if he wanted me to sign up him up for another 3 months. His response was for another 100 months. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of Tri-Star in the future!
My child loves coming to Tristar. Every instructor greets your child by name and greets the parents as well. My son has grown in confidence in just 4 months and is taking on new challenges. Sensi Barnes rocks as an instructor and makes learning the skills fun and engaging.
Great environment, also good at teaching.
Me and my daughter we are Training in there and we have fun and learn
Good place to start. Instructors are good, maybe a little more attention to class. Would help to have potential 1:1 instruction options once in a while to help push through those who struggle in large classes. Edit: there are a lot more instructors now and that has helped a lot. Raising to 5 stars.
Our son absolutely loves his martial arts class at Tristar! He adores his instructors, (especially Sensei Alfred), and he always looks forward to going. While taking martial arts classes is not cheap, Tristar does offer many great introductory deals where you pay a discounted price for about 6 weeks and you get a free uniform (pants, shirt, and white belt). Most class levels have 4 classes a week to choose from, and you typically go to 2 classes a week. If you or your child are interested in trying out a martial arts class, I highly recommend signing up for one of their discounted introductory courses!
Been going here for a decade best karate place in Carroll County!
They are taking safety very seriously and it hasn't hurt the quality of the experience for the kids. Great work!
My son loves going here for karate.
Tristan has been a great experience for my son. He is in Black belt club. All of the instructors are excellent and kid friendly. Really build bridges and instill confidence in the kids who are here
My granddaughter has been taking lessons and loves it. She intends to continue with the program beyond black belt. The instructors are great with the kids. Her younger sister has started also.
Our family LOVES Tristar! The staff is amazing and extremely professional. My husband and daughter set out to get their black belts together and will achieve them in November 2018. They are very excited and happy with all the hard work they have put in at Tristar to get to where they are today. Our other children have taken advantage of “Buddy Week” and “Safety Trainings” which they love. Tristar is part of our family and we feel that we are a part of theirs.
I couldn’t be more impressed with the professionalism and care shown by all of the instructors. My 10 year old daughter as been training for 3 years and I couldn’t be more impressed by her development and discipline. This has become a community for us- not just a class.
My family and I have been enjoying learning much and having fun while attending Tristar. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They provide the opportunity to learn many skills and are clearly dedicated to their art, their students and the community.
We genuinely love being a part of the Tristar Martial Arts family! My daughter has attended Tristar since August of 2016. She has learned not only martial arts but also self discipline, confidence and patience. The staff at Tristar are amazing and she loves the time she spends at the dojo! She plans to earn her black belt and maybe even one day help other students learn martial arts!
My son has been training at Tristar he was 5, he is now 12 ! Tristar has helped my son with self control and confidence ! The instructors really love their jobs and will go out of their way to talk to their students about school issues, and additional assistance with techniques the students are learning . Tristar offers many safety/self defense classes that I have attended many times. Tristar martial Arts is more than a martial arts school, it is a community that families can be proud to be apart of !!
I have too many positive things to say about Tristar Martial Arts to be able to write a smooth and cohesive paragraph. Instead, enjoy my praise in bullet-format: * The instructors are knowledgeable yet humble. They hold students to a high standard when learning terminology and demonstrating techniques, but are patient and constructive in their feedback to students. * The instructors have also perfected a balance of decorum and light-heartedness. Dojo protocols WILL be observed (responding to instructions with a loud "yes, sir", bowing on and off the mats, thanking your training partner, etc), and jokes WILL be told (always in good taste, and always in the interest of keeping students engaged). * "Karate" is the subject matter being taught, but "self-improvement" is the lesson being learned. Your student will learn to control both body and mind, and they will learn to respect themselves and others. * Situational awareness is also a major focus of the training. Knowing how to avoid conflict, or how to de-escalate a confrontation, is given just as much attention as the techniques themselves. * The facility is clean, welcoming, and well-suited for the many activities and events that the instructors host throughout the year (my personal favorite being the annual Zombie Nerf Wars). * Tristar also offers training seminars for parents and siblings, or finds other ways to get the families involved. My wife and I frequently attend these sessions, and have learned a lot. My family has been training at Tristar for over 6 years, and we are better people for it.
Great integrity. Care about the total student.
My daughter has been at Tristar for nearly 8 years. In that time she has learned focus, respect and how to standup for herself and others. She is brave and strong thanks in part to Tristar and their wonderful teachers.
Tristar has had such a positive impact on my daughter. Over the past 2.5 years of attending classes she went from an impulsive kid who never thought anything through to more controlled and self confident! She loves attending classes and the staff is absolutely wonderful. I will continue to recommend Tristar to anyone!
My 8 yr old son is quite the introvert and reserved and seemed to show no interest in team sports so I thought we should try martial arts. After receiving a coupon to give us 6 weeks trial offer we decided to give TriStar the chance to give my son a safe outlet to discover who he is. And I could not be more impressed, honored or proud to call us a TriStar family. Each instructor greets every student every class. The instructors teach not only martial arts but integrity, compassion, understanding, strength, courage and friendship. When I think of the saying "it takes a village to raise a child" I can tell you I would only want the TriStar family to be the ones helping to raise my child. TriStar is not just about martial arts. It is about building a complete person. Example: before promotion not only must they be able to confidently show the moves taught in class but must get home and school to sign off on their behavior and growth as well. Enrolling my son at TriStar Martial Arts is the best decision I've made as a parent yet.
Outstanding Academy for Taijutsu martial arts and life skills for the young and young at heart!
My son has been a Tristar student for a few years now. Since starting, he has become a much more confident person. The staff at Tristar are always helpful, and caring about all of the students. Thank you Tristar for all of the positive experiences!
Our youngest has been in the Little Ninja program for about 4 months and his focus has improved by leaps and bounds! The atmosphere is always so positive and the staff is always incredibly thoughtful! They even sent a sympathy card signed by all to our family upon hearing of my Grandfather's passing!
We love Tristar! The staff is incredible and the programs are awesome.
Tristar is a safe and fun environment fir anyone. My daughter has anxiety and the staff helped her manage it to achieve her black belt. This was a huge self confidence moment for her. She is now working on her second degree.
I have had all three of my children enrolled at Tristar for the past six months. I am very happy with what they are learning not only in martial arts, but in life skills as well. All in a fun safe environment. The kids love going too.
The teachers are phenomenal. It's obvious during the classes how much they care about the kids. My wife and I have been very happy with the program. Our girls both love going. I appreciate the life skills that they review in addition to learning self defense.
Tristar is a great place to for your young child (the 4-7 program is great) to learn important life skills such as dealing with bullies, strangers, etc. The instructors are very caring.
This is a great martial arts school! The instructors are awesome. My kids have not only learned martial arts, but life lessons that I'm sure they'll be able use well into adulthood.
Tristar has been wonderful to our entire family! We recommend it to anyone who asks.
My son has been attending TriStar Martial Arts for a little over 6 months and I love their program. We have had a few behavior issues and Sensei Berger has been great talking with my son to try and help him improve. I think over time my son will really benefit from the programs that Tri-Star offers. I will certainly be signing my other son up when he is old enough.
My son and daughter are both Tristar students and absolutely love it. Sensei Birger and all instructors have an amazing way with their students and we have seen our children's confidence grow tremendously.
My son has been a student at Tristar for the last 4 years! He is 10 and he loves it. The instructors are wonderful. They work with the kids great and have a lot of knowledge! I am so glad that we found Tristar if you are looking into a martial arts school Tristar is the one!
Tristar Martial Arts is a great martial arts academy. They teach their students important knowledge in self-defense and in life. Anyone of all ages is welcome and is encouraged to come and try it out.
My 6 year old son absolutely loves Tristar martial arts! He has been going there for a year and a half now and he plans to continue until he earns his black belt! They have wonderful staff that is excellent with children. For each level there are plenty of days to choose to come for class which makes it nice as other things come up. The kids learn so much and have chances to earn rewards with completing behavioral tasks. These tasks help have really helped with my sons behavior at home too!
My kids love Tristar! They have been going there since 5yrs old. We have had the pleasure of being at both the Eldersburg and Westminster Dojos. They both have talented staff and not only teach karate skills, but life skills. Highly Recommend!
Update Spring of 2016 In May of 2015 myself, David and Mary received are Black Belts. David and Mary now have the confidence necessary to be accomplished difficult long term goals. In October of 2014, I was asked to join the SWAT team (Assistant Instructor) and I am continuing my own training toward my 2nd Degree Black Belt. I have seen many other youth grow in confidence as they advanced through the program. Review Spring of 2012 I and my two children have been training at Tri-Star for over 9 months and we recently received our Green Belts. I am 51 years old and my children are 8 and 12. From the first day I was impressed with how the staff works with the students. The attention to detail is fantastic. Students learn not only Karate, but build confidence, learn respect for one another and other people, and learn to take responsibility for their actions. The instructors teach both by word and by being a great example. Since I started my overall health has improved greatly. I have taken over 2 inches of off my waist and have built up my endurance and strength. My children have gained confidence and are learning that through hard work and perseverance they can accomplish anything. We all look forward to going to the lessons. My son has tried other activities and sports, but this has been the one that has given him real confidence and energy and he always looks forward to going. We all look forward to continuing to learn for many years to come and one day earn our Black Belts.
My son started at Tristar Westminster as a Little Ninja back in 2012. He has grown so much in discipline and respect, as well as his martial arts abilities. Sensei Birger and the entire Westminster team are amazing!! I can't imagine taking him anywhere else to train. Thank you for all your dedication! It definitely shows!
My son has learned so much, since he joined the Tristar family. He has gained confidence and has improved in many other aspects. We love Ms. Johnson @ the Westminster dojo. She always takes special time to mentor our son.
My 10 year old son is on his way to junior black belt soon and it has been a great experience the whole way! My daughter has begun more recently and I intend on joining sometime as well. Sensei Birger and Ms Simmons are awesome with the kids and adults alike! We've had various instructors throughout the years and all have shown high spirits working with kids! More recently Mr. Barnes has provided the same great comedic relief with the kids as Sensei Birger! The lessons learned at the this school will be useful for the students for life!
My son has been attending Tristar for approximately 6 years. He very much enjoys it and it has helped him tremendously with his confidence and focus. Personally I am very pleased with the emphasis placed on respect and attitude and very much like how the instructors work with the kids. Its an excellent place for my son to learn not only martial arts but also other life aspects as well. I continue to recommend Tristar for anyone seeking to learn martial arts in an enjoyable atmosphere from excellent instructors.
We have been training at Tristar for almost 10 years. We have met some of our best friends while training...both on and off the mat. The instructors are always encouraging, up-beat, and genuinely care about each student. Not only have my kids self confidence along with all the qualities of a black belt improved...so have mine!
My son (6 yrs) just earned his 2nd belt at TriStar so we are fairly new, but the experience has been wonderful. He looks forward to his next lesson and most of all applies what he is taught - respect, dicipline, and fun between lessons. The way they encourage the students is amazing. Highly recommend
Our family has been training with Tristar Martial Arts for over a year now and we absolutely love it! What started out as a fun thing for my oldest son to try, turned out to be a great family activity. The children have learned respect, confidence and important life skills, including standing up to bullies and protecting themselves from strangers. I recently joined the kids on the mat and really enjoy training alongside them. The instructors are fantastic and we are truly grateful for their hard work and dedication to the community.
This center advertises that they do not leave out any children based on learning or physical ability that they cater to children with special needs. That’s a flat out lie. I took my high functioning ASD 8-year-old son here and after his first one on one lesson we were told he still had to try a trial group class and then they would decide if he was well behaved enough to be able to join. He was never disrespectful and had trouble maintaining eye contact and staying on the white dot between moves. Honestly he did great, and if they can’t handle a high-functioning child then I don’t know what they would do for a parent with a child with more profound needs. I called back the next day and spoke with the lead instructor looking for clarification. That I did in fact get, he informed me that his wife had designed the website off a template without reading it first. He was very apologetic though and I asked him to fix his site. It’s 48 hours later, and the site still says what it says below. Think twice before giving these people your money.
The pricing is simply too high for middle-class families. Studied for two decades with my father (goju) and at a military service academy (Bujinkan taijutsu), wanted the same in this area for my kids. Price is more, per child, than my car payment. I can literally study private lessons with Stephen K. Hayes himself for less. No. Looks to be of use, but not at that price point. I also see Westminster homes starting at $700,000-$800,000, so maybe it's the right price point for those families who can afford that. Not for the rest of us.
Think there the boss of me cause of age now stuck in these classes with instructors push me to the point of nausea and my only option is convincing parents to move
