My daughter and I moved into the area a few years ago and were looking for a new club to join. We tried several in town, and had ok experiences. We came from a really great academy and had high hopes of finding something similar and lucked out when we came across Tried & True. We tried 1 class and loved it right away. The atmosphere was very chill, and the people were very welcoming. The quality of instruction was top notch and Coaches Emily and Brad are very patient (and hilarious). There are lots of women partners for my daughter to train with which is great. The techniques are legit. The facility is VERY clean and the mats are top quality. You want to roll with competitors, no problem. There multiple black belts and everything right down to new white belts. Are you brand new and just want to get in shape and learn some self defense, no problem. If you are looking for a fantastic club to join, or are visiting Calgary and looking to drop in, hit them up. You won't regret it.
Posted 1 year agoI have been training BJJ for over 10 years and have recently discovered this gym to be the most fun and welcoming group I have encountered. Awesome facility with nice details and well maintained. The professors are absolutely dope. Awesome group of folks with solid skills to share and learn from. It is also a great source for top-quality gear. Highly recommend.
Posted 6 months agoI've been training at Tried And True for several months now, and I can honestly say it’s been an incredible experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly and supportive community. The instructors are top-notch—highly knowledgeable, patient, and always eager to help you improve, no matter your skill level. The gym itself is clean, well-equipped, and has a great atmosphere for learning and growing. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced practitioner, Tried and True has something to offer. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to take their BJJ game to the next level!
Posted 7 months agoExcellent gym, feel extremely safe and welcomed as a petite woman. Techniques are explained clearly & in memorable ways by all the coaches. Community is so strong, have made so many friends there from all walks of life, yet everyone is kind, supportive & respectful. It’s definitely worth trying a free class. Super useful life skill to be learning for self defence. I started as a complete beginner, but all levels and belts are well represented.
Posted 1 year agoThis gym is literally my family’s second home. Our 3 kids started Jiu Jitsu here and now both my husband and I train too. Being a small woman (barely 5”1), I really appreciate how there are always a number of women to train with in class. The higher belts are happy to roll with you and give you pointers. Coach Emily, Brad and Ryan do a fantastic job fostering an environment where you can learn great Jiu Jitsu in a friendly, relaxed setting.
