AKA Is the best in town. Thwe gym consists of very skilled fighters in muay thai & jiu jitsu. No matter your age you will be receiving training from some of the best around.
Posted 10 months agoTrevor Prangley’s AKA is run by people who are passionate, dedicated, and truly care about their community. The owners do an incredible job creating a welcoming, professional environment built on hard work and integrity. It’s clear they put their heart into everything they do, and it shows in the positive reputation they’ve built. Highly recommend!
Posted 10 months agoI found this gym during my 2 years stay in Idaho. This is by far one of the most elite gyms you will find in Idaho. I found myself progressing extremely quickly due to great teaches and ample rolling time. All the coaches are extremely personable, humble, Christian men that lead by example. If you are in the north Idaho area you can’t go wrong with this gym.
Posted 1 year agoAKA has become a large part of our families routine. Both my husband and I train along with two of our children. The little kids class is a great place for the little ones to start. Our 4 yr old has been learning to respect his coaches and partners, actively listen, and use self control. Our 7 year old recently moved up to the big kids class by learning jiujitsu and self defence techniques and then implementing them in the little kids class. I like that there are many coaches on the mats for every class, enough to be able to help each kids needs. This has also allowed my kids to learn new things each week. The adult classes are way less intimidated than I had imagined prior to starting the sport. They started me in a white belt class and once I progressed and felt comfortable moved to the regular adult class. Again, the coaches were numerous and helpful. The women's program is the biggest in the area. So, I have really enjoyed not needing to drill and roll with the men unless I wanted to. My husband has enjoyed that there are some of the most competitive and skilled men in the area, at this gym. Lastly, this gym is extremely family friendly. Our kids join us and play on the sidelines during all our classes and our youngest is under two. The other families in the gym help accommodate the children to allow for every one to train regardless of circumstances. We have greatly enjoyed this as a family sport! This is a great gym for a competitive athlete, a person who hasn't worked out in years, a wild or timid 4 year old or a kid/teen who wants to learn!
As an older gentleman, I was hesitant to commit to a place due to past negative experiences at other gyms/academies. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and sense of community Trevor Prangley’s AKA had when I dropped in for a class. That drop in was nearly 8 months ago and I have been grateful for each and every member of the community I have met along my short jiu jitsu journey. Everyone is helpful, courteous, and there is an overall sense of everyone rising together in the academy. I have even enrolled my daughter and found their kids program to be large and well ran. I love how some of the parents who are also students are welcome to put on a gi and help with the little ones. I would recommend anyone who is looking for a great community in jiu jitsu stop into this place and give it a try like I did. You won’t be disappointed.
My son has just joined Trevor Prangley's aka but loves it! Good prices and has classes available every day. He has already learned so much!
Was able to join a class while in town for work. Awesome gym, great instruction and very welcoming vibe. Highly recommend checking them out. Thanks for the opportunity to roll!
I tell everyone I meet what a wonderful gym Aka Trevor Prangley really is. My family has been a part of this incredible team for over 6 yrs now and counting. My son started jujitsu at age 5, my daughter at age 6 and what a fantastic journey has this been to this day. Experienced coaches, supportive training partners and above all strong values of respect and team work. Bravo!
This is such a great place to train and train-up our son in life. This gym has been instrumental in helping our child grow into a respectable and skilled jujitsu champion.
What can I say that hasn't already been said. Trevor Prangleys A.K.A is simply the best. When I first brought my son into this gym it was to just get him more mat time for wrestling. Fast forward 5 years later and he's still here and loves it along with his little sister. Through the wins & loses, they are always there for you, they hold you accountable & make sure you're growing not just as an athlete but as a human being. I know most places say "this gym is for everyone" but when it comes to Trevor Prangleys A.K.A it is the truth. Kids class, teens class, adults, woman, etc, and having classes available throughout each day. May God continue to bless your business.
Great facility with high quality coaches and friendly staff
JiuJitsu as a sport has helped me immensely, and I'm glad I found such a large gym, with such down-to-earth instructors. They really focus on teaching the 'why' of each move; going into the anatomy stuff, and explaining why and how each sweep, sub, or throw works.
My son and I began training at AKA in November. I was not looking forward to having to find a new BJJ gym but was in a position where I needed to find a better gym. As soon as I walked into AKA I was greeted by a sweet gal who showed me around, introduced me to one of their black belt instructors and told me to try a couple of classes before committing to signing up. No hard pressure sales. Signing up for BJJ and Muay Thai at AKA was the best decision I could have made. Not only am I in classes with highly trained instructors who make sure I'm getting the technique, but the members here have been phenomenal as well. I've met amazing training partners who push me to be better and great people all around. If you are looking to learn a martial art or grow in your martial art I highly suggest trying AKA. Glad to make this our home gym, just wish I would have done it sooner.
I have been training at Trevor Prangleys for over a year and have loved every second of it. It took a while for me to build up the courage to walk into the gym, but once I did, it was one of the best decision I ever made. If you are thinking about trying it, do it. Your only regret is that you didn't come sooner.
Best jiu jitsu and mma place around. Toughest and most skilled, no contest!
I was looking up pricing here on Google and forgot that I've never left a review, so here it goes. This gym changed my life. After training at other gyms, I was an ok fighter who believed I was better then I actually was. I learned quickly that I wasn't. AKA not only turned me into a much better fighter, but a much tougher person. I can't thank Trevor enough for his influence, and just to clarify for the one negative review on here, I've been called a "muppet" by him more times then I can count, that's just his personality, don't be so soft. There is no better gym in the area. Period. If you are looking for a cuddly gym to stroke your ego, go somewhere else, there's plenty. If you want to learn how to really defend yourself, become unbelievably tougher both mentally and physically, and be pushed, then this is the gym for it.
Great place, great environment, lots of different programs and coaches. Kids and adult classes.
This is one of the best classes ever. The instructions are really useful, and I never was thrown to the side because of my inexperience. Everyone there is super supportive and taught me to learn self defense. Really awesome place.
Best kids program in the area, bar none. The kids are broken up in 4 groups, with multiple instructors per group, based on age and skill level. My daughter genuinely loves it, has fun every time she goes, and makes it to every extra class she can go to. As an adult, you have access to multiple black belts (each with their unique styles and perspectives); you will indeed find the knowledge you are looking for. Everyone is very open to answer questions and explain details when asked. There is an awesome, dedicated women's class on Saturdays (taught by women), which is great for women who want to try it but may feel a little uneasy with starting; you can even do Yoga for BJJ before hand. More or less, this place offers everything and is open to suggestions if they don't currently offer it. This is my home and this is my family!
AKA is definitely the best place to train. I would not recommend anywhere else. There are always people to spar with and there is ample opportunity to train during the week and weekends. Everyone is friendly and there is much respect between us all.
This is the best place to train if close to the area. Knowledgable coaches and great training partners.
Great gym with great people and plenty of opportunities to train as much as you like. Learn at your own pace and take a few classes a week or drink from the fire hose and get rolls in daily, whatever you prefer. Everyone brings a great attitude and comes ready to learn.
Best place to Learn Jiu Jitsu..
My son and I enrolled in January of 21. I've been wanting to join a BJJ gym for a long time and I'm glad I finally got my foot in the door.. my son is 8 and their kids program is great. Stern but a fun environment for the kids to learn. The adult classes are just as impressive. Plenty of one on one time and you definitely earn what you learn. If you want a great place to train with great training partners and coaches I would highly recommend Trevor Prangley's A.K.A. Thank you Trevor for what you're doing for our community! I hope I get to enjoy many years to come!
I joined AKA (ID) 5 years ago. One of the best decisions I have ever made. It is high level training, by really good people. I reside in CDA, but was traveling in WA, OR, ID with work, when I joined. I wanted a place where my kids could learn work ethic, discipline, self defense, and have good role models. AKA surpassed my expectations in each of those areas. I have trained at multiple gyms throughout the pnw, and I have never once said "I wish we did, or had that at our gym". It's family friendly, with top level instructors, great gym.
Trained here for half a year before I had to move. Set the standard for the next martial arts gym I join!
I started with the help of the we defy foundation for disabled vets about 4 years ago. I was in bad shape and dealing with a lot health issues from my service in Iraq when I started. The coaches here change lives and that’s exactly what I experienced. They help me so much on and off the mat and they care a lot about their students. I also went from knowing very little about jiu jitsu to knowing a whole lot about it. The coaches here also did very well with training my daughter and trevor is great with the kids. Cda is very fortunate to have this place I highly recommend it.
I cannot recommend this gym and these couches highly enough. Joining Trevor Prangley's AKA is probably one of the best things I have done for myself and my family because I am a better person from it, without a doubt. I originally joined because of the reputation of the coaches (they are LEGIT), but stayed for the training, self improvement, and my teammates. Its kind of a second family at the gym. I credit this to them: I am fitter and than I have been ever, and have far more confidence in myself because we roll live and spar too. Its iron sharpening iron...and I didn't even start out as tin. Recommend Trevor Prangley's AKA to anyone looking to improve their personal capability, fitness, or just join a fine group of folks who will make them better.
Best jiu jitsu gym within 200 miles of Spokane. Great for professional fighters or BJJ competitors, yet also the beginner. Very welcoming for new people. Best adult AND kids jiu jitsu programs and much more! Can't recommend enough.
Best beast personal hard-core training won't find a better trainer in town
My daughter loves the Muay Thai and Jui Jitsu. It’s a fun atmosphere and the owners are very nice.
Great studio with a lot to teach students of any level
Top Atmosphere & environment. Lots of application technique, great students & instructors. Variety of disciplines and class times. Great gym, great owners. Much love here 🤜🏼 10/10
Awesome place to train for both kids and adults. Very reasonable membership prices. And great instruction from very knowledgeable and experienced coaches.
I have been training here for 3 years now. The quality of the instructors is excellent. We have Trevor and Jason who both fought in the UFC as well as several other black belts who are all excellent teachers. The atmosphere is open and friendly. It is a fun and rewarding place to train.
Owner, Trevor Prangley, is an exceptional instructor and brings experience few others can. From wins in the UFC, Strikeforce, King of the Cage, a prestigious wrestling pedigree and a black belt in BJJ from Dave Camarillo, Trevor has a dump truck full of knowledge and experience. Training with Trevor is both hard work and a good time. His kids class is simply beyond reproach, so if you’re looking for a place for the family to train, this is it.
I’ve been training BJJ and Muay Thai for a couple months now at TPAKA. The instructors are clearly top notch and all have a passion for teaching which makes learning from them easy and enjoyable. The culture is one of respect, kindness, and positive encouragement with a strong sense of mentorship between more experienced and less experienced students.
Best in the west train their. Very tough people. Great training!!
Awesome, super professional, instructive and fun
Good BJJ instruction and very friendly, helpful students! Definitely recommend this gym to others!
Great place to train MMA, jui jitsu, muy tai, boxing and wrestling. Trevor has first hand UFC experience, king of the cage champion and a great wrestling resume as well.
Loved the place however was only able to take a couple classes due to my sponsors being unable to get in contact with them to pay my membership fees due to the time discrepancies of the two establishments (my sponsors only being open until 5pm and the gym not opening at 5:30-6:00 most days) they were very nice and knowledgeable and I absolutely loved the atmosphere. They even welcomed me to train with them until they could figure out the payments and get ahold of my sponsors, unfortunately I declined as I didn't think they would be able to get in contact with one another and have since given up on training because I cannot drive out to spokane everyday. I would recommend training here and I hope to some day go back as for now I am embarrassed.
I stopped by the other evening to check out the gym as I have heard great things about it. I went in and there was a blonde lady with a baby. She was basically focused on the child, which it was crying. I patiently waited to be addressed while she changed the diaper right there on the floor. (Not really something I would expect for a business to allow) After that she proceeded to go about her business, never greeting me as a potential new customer. She was also chatting with a couple ladies who seemed like regular customers. I went into the gym to take a look at the facility (there was a kids class going on). When I came back she was still attending to the crying child. I tried to ask some questions, but she was short with every answer. She directed me to find the answers to my questions on the website. It was clear I was bothering her personal time with the child. I am sure there are other facilities that know how professionally greet potential customers.
The instruction at the school is great, but the atmosphere is completely toxic. I am a Ukrainian-American and yes I have an accent (i also speak 3 languages fluently). Trevor started joking about my nationality and these “jokes” did escalate over time - Russian this, Russian that, talking to the group with a strong Russian accent, etc. I really liked the classes though and I hope that he did not understand how uncomfortable he made me feel. So I approached him in an assertive way and asked nicely to stop. The week passed and his behavior escalated - I asked him to teach me some defense and the answer was: “Haha, I will show you but with a strong Russian accent. America is a free country and I can speak however I want”. What a crooked understanding of American freedom! I was not the only target - the same day he was referring to two underaged boys from the group as “muppets”. Anyway, if you are an adult and want to experience a high school atmosphere once again (for $140 per month) - welcome to Trevor Prangley’s AKA!
