The Fighters Garage has good people. I joined a year ago, and continue to be impressed by the quality of instruction and learning environment. The Fighters Garage attracts a fun group, all of whom engage with their training wholeheartedly.
What makes this gym unique and fun are the members of the gym. I was practicing Jiu Jitsu on and off for about 3 years. I started with the Gracie Combatives program and due to my work, I move every 2-3 years. When my family and I moved to VA, I decided to join this gym since it was close to my home. From day one, everyone was friendly and willing to help me improve. You can find competitors and hobbyists, gi and no gi classes, and all of the higher belts are there to help you when needed. I had some basic knowledge prior to attending this gym and it has been a great place to learn and stay in shape. I highly recommend this gym to someone who has trained a little and wants to be part of a special community. You won't have training partners who will 'smash' you because of the culture that has been established by the owner. Professor Asher ensures people are humble and courteous to one another. If you want to learn, just ask someone and they will help you. I highly recommend The Fighters Garage.
No clue what I was looking for, but I definitely found it. I’m so glad I found this place. Great instructors and friendly students. I can’t recommend enough
I love this place. I had been looking for a place to learn self defense that would actually be applicable to the real world, but as a stay at home mom who hadn't exercised in years, I was nervous to get started. From the first time I walked in this gym, I knew I'd found the right place. The instructors are encouraging, knowledgeable and push you just enough. You will get an amazing work out, meet awesome people, and learn a ton. I recommend it to all my friends.
It's officially been a year and I genuinely cannot recommend the Fighters Garage enough. I stumbled upon the school at the recommendation of a friend last March with zero experience and even less confidence. I'm happy to report that has changed a bit, knowing I've still much to learn and excited to do so. I look forward each week to the respectful, lighthearted and encouraging environment. Under the instruction of Asher and Effie I've personally seen vast improvement, coming alongside many of the students, who are also excellent teachers, patient and intentional. It's an environment that gives the students permission to laugh at failed attempts and grow past limitations. If you are looking to train or try something new, check out the Fighters Garage.
Not only has the Fighters Garage boosted my confidence and my fitness, I have also found good friends here. This is not only a gym, it's also a community. I've had great workouts here, learning solid techniques with Scott and getting exhausted by Effi's cardio while he was vacuuming the studio floor. I also like that everyone is welcome whether they are a secret service agent or a busy mom of two.
The Fighters Garage is a gem of a gym. Newcomers are made welcome from the get go, and the instructors are all experienced and deliver great classes and robust workouts. The monthly fee is very reasonable and gives you access to the full range of classes. I had never done martial arts prior to starting classes and it's been a really comfortable and fun learning environment.
Great gym! Fantastic instruction from people who care, and no attitudes, just friendly folks. Hands down the best workout of my life.
Kravworks is a phenomenal! I am new to martial arts, and wanted to try Krav Maga while I was in the area temporarily. Every instructor and student was welcoming and supportive, and I always felt safe and learned a lot. They even ended up getting me hooked on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Kravworks makes me want to stay in the area permanently.
I am blown away by how rewarding and unique this place is. They offer more classes than just krav, and monthly membership gets you unlimited access to any of them 6 days a week. (The $20 2-week trial also gets you unlimited access.) The instructors are kind and skilled martial artists and teachers, and students of all skill levels help eachother in a fun, lighthearted environment despite the intensity of the workout. I had zero experience with martial arts and have learned so much so quickly in just a few months, boosting my confidence, my fitness, and of course my self defense. Students are encouraged to push themself at their own pace, but still learn from working with more advanced students. In turn, when you work with someone less experienced you gain the valuable skill of restraint and improve your grasp of the concepts by helping them. I am always working with new partners and meeting new people, but overall they have fostered a welcoming community of regulars that make me excited to come back. I highly value having found a safe and diverse space with good people I trust - all while learning how to kick butt with an emphasis on REAL WORLD situations.
Excellent and welcoming teachers with a variety of fun classes focused on real life situations and functional fitness. Great value and great community. I highly recommend this school.
I've been a member here off/on since 2006. Despite moves due to school, military, job, etc., I always feel drawn to return to KravWorks and always find that I wish I returned earlier. I currently live about 25 minutes away and regularly make the drive in to take classes. There are plenty of other martial arts schools much closer to where I live, but KravWorks is worth the trip. The instructors are great. They know their stuff and care about their students. Additionally, there are a variety of martial arts classes offered. Whether you are looking to get in shape, stay in shape, or become a serious martial artist...this place has something to offer everyone. Taking classes here has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. And KravWorks typically offers a reduced price one-week or two-week trial period, so you have nothing to lose by stopping by to try things out for yourself. Come check it out sometime soon...it could turn out to be one of the best choices you ever make.
I was looking for something physically and mentally engaging to keep in shape - I come from a dance/circus background, so regular gyms don't cut it. I felt welcome at KravWorks despite not having any experience with martial arts. The classes I've attended have had tough but adaptable conditioning, just the right amount of friendly sarcasm, and partner drills to work on technique and keep it interesting. Even though working with other people can be awkward at first, it's great because everyone I've worked with has been really helpful and fun. Parking is confusing, but it's a hole-in-the-wall martial arts garage, what do you expect?
Great space, very knowledgeable instructors. I've only been training here for a month, but I was blown away at how helpful and friendly everyone is. Beginner friendly, but the classes are definitely intense enough for serious competitors! I have some experience in Krav, so that's what I was most excited about - but after taking one of Ian's Kali classes I think I'm hooked! highly reccomended
If you are considering trying out Krav Maga, you can't beat The Fighter's Garage. Get 2 weeks for $20 and see if it's for you. They also offer Jiu Jitsu and Kali martial arts. It is a non-threatening environment for newbies and you will get a great work out while learning the basics of self-defense.
Kravworks is a great choice! I have a little bit of Krav experience and when looking for a new gym to continue learning at, I loved this one right away. Small classes with friendly and welcoming members, instructors who are tough and thorough but well-paced, and a supportive and encouraging workout atmosphere. I have fun, get a SOLID workout, and learn new skills every single class. For women especially, if you're looking to take up any kind of martial arts, I would highly recommend starting here.
I love this place so far! I'm new to krav, and new to this place, and everyone is attentive. Effie is awesome, and takes the time to explain things to me, even when I ask him twice. It's a great mix of males and females, most in their 20's and 30's, and all are excited and want to learn. The more "senior" students who have been there a while are willing to help you, and explain movements to you. It's a good workout, and teaches good skills to have when wanting to defend yourself. I'm excited to develop my skills and work my way up to through the levels. I was afraid of trying because I'm a petite female, and didn't want to be "roughed up" or "gently managed" by larger guys, but it's not been the case for me. I haven't had issues with people either being too rough, or not tough enough. It's a great place to go to, and I'm glad I chose this place over others. I signed up for another institution a year ago, and ultimately decided they were not the fit for me, but KravWorks is exactly what I need--a friendly learning environment at such reasonable cost. They also give a discount to students or federal employees of 10%, which is such a nice little perk.
All the reviews here are spot-on. I finished my 2-week trial and decided to join the school. The instructors are great and take the time to show/explain forms to beginners (like myself with no prior martial arts experience). The more experienced students are helpful as well and willing to partner up with newbies to help them get started. What I particularly enjoy about the krav basics classes is that it's a functional, full body workout with room to go all out or at your own pace, and it's an introduction or practice in different forms each time. Not to mention the pricing for classes here is fair and can't be beat--after having looked into other schools around NoVA. You have nothing to lose from doing the 2-week trial and meeting the instructors!
Krav Works offers realistic self defense training within a challenging yet nurturing environment. The instructors are very helpful. They met me at my current level of physical fitness/martial arts skills and helped me to improve rapidly. The variety of training they offer is key. The different styles of marital arts make for well rounded instruction.
I recently joined Krav Works with no previous martial arts experience, but it didn't matter at all! The beginners classes are great, and I've already learned so much after taking just a few classes. The instructors help you along the way and all the students are welcoming and accepting. A lot of people filter in and out, and sometimes they forget who the newbies are, so if you don't know how to do something, just shout out to an instructor and he will happily show you.
amazing place if you want a full workout and increase in confidence the instructors have years of experience and are extremely welcoming to new people.
Great full-body workout and practical self defense skills. But the people are why I signed up after the two week trial period. Everyone is supportive and glad to share their knowledge. The instructors push you, but don't demand that you pull off miracles. Best of all, no one seems to judge anyone about their current physical fitness level. Can't do full push-ups yet? Do them from your knees. Can't do that? Plank. Their attitude seems to be "do what you can as long as you are doing something." I love this place.
As someone with extensive martial arts training and application, I was immediately impressed with the competency of the instructors. Everyone here teaches for all the right reasons and are super welcoming. I learned so much in the year or so I spent coming here. Six years later and having checked out Krav studios in various parts of the country, I still haven't found a place as down to earth or as knowledgeable. I've been spoiled by KravWorks! Special thanks to my buddy Alan for introducing me to them.
I started training at Krav Works after my senior year of high school because, as a woman, I wanted to learn some practical self defense before I left for college. Even though I came in with no prior martial arts experience, I've never once felt intimidated there. The instructors do a great job of teaching the techniques without calling anybody out, and the environment is productive and judgement free. People of all fitness/ experience levels come to train and benefit from the full-body workouts. I plan to keep training here because of how many effective techniques I have already learned in just one summer. Plus it's a very fun way to relieve stress!
I came to this place just out of pure curiosity. It was probably the best "out of curiosity" decisions I ever made. Go at your own pace, a little slower if needed or a little faster, it simply depends on your capabilities. If you dedicate some real time to coming, I can guarantee you will come out of there with something more than worth your while. This is a place that is judgement free, and everyone is friendly. I just wish I had more time to come.
Top notch training and great learning environment . Frequent seminars from some of the best martial artist practitioners out there. Can't go wrong!
I've been a student and instructor here since 2009, after looking into several other Krav training centers. I have had the pleasure to learn and grow in Krav, BJJ, and Muay Thai Kickboxing here. The leaders and instructors are excellent and work hard to create an training environment that is both accessible and practical for students of all types and backgrounds.
What makes this school great is the instructors and the students. There are no egos. People of all shapes and sizes eagerly work with each other to make each other better and get into better shape. Classes are challenging, and in the beginning you most likely will not be able to keep up. No problem, do what you are able, no one is going to give you a hard time about it. A few weeks in you will not have a problem keeping up. The atmosphere here is so good I drive right by a Krav school 2 miles from my house to come here, over 20 miles from my house. Hope to see you there.
