I received my black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before moving to Chesterton. I train regularly with James and can say with confidence that James is both a talented grappler and teacher, as well as a super nice guy. The students are welcoming, too. So glad to have found James and his gym!

I never visited his gym, but thanks to James, I was able to improve my skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He taught me one of the fundamental moves, the pendulum sweep, and saved my butt in competition. Mr. O'Connor is a passionate advocate for physical fitness. If you're in this area and looking for a gym, don't bother exhausting yourself any further because O'Connor Martial Arts is the right call!

My son has been on team O’Connor for about 4 years now and we just love them. Both James and his wife Tera have always made us feel welcomed. My son has progressed not only in martial arts but is taught life lessons in discipline and respect. I really appreciate the effort they put into these kids making them strong and confident.

We absolutely love it here! My son has been in the program since the fall and has learned so much already. It gives him something positive to do away from all of the technology of today and also gives him something to work on. Mr. O'Conner is an amazing teacher who truly inspires the kids. The rest of the staff is amazing as well! Always willing to help a newbie like me out with any questions I had lol I would definitely recommend to anyone 👍

I started training jiujitsu at Team O’Connor almost 5 years ago. To say that it changed my life for the better is an understatement. James doesn’t teach anything he doesn’t truly believe in, and hasn’t tried himself in training. He is a father, mentor, leader, and a friend. If you’re looking to get in shape, learn self defense, or better your life, this is the place for you.

My daughter and I have been training here for a few years now and I cannot say enough good about the BJJ program and James himself. I can’t speak to other schools but this one is as inviting as you could want, family friendly and open to any kind of student. The facility itself is clean and well maintained and everyone working here is as friendly and knowledgeable as you could ask for. If you’ve ever considered learning some BJJ for self defense or even just for physical fitness there is no reason you should look elsewhere.

My son loves going here and can't wait for our daughter to be old enough to go too!!! Highly recommend James to all our friends!!!

The guy riding the gym to throw Connor is very rude argumentative and unprofessional. He had made a statement about something I asked for further explanation so I could understand it better and I got my head chewed off.

I many people have left reviews on this place and the danger it is to children. They get all reviews (Real ones) removed. Fake martial arts school. Only a con artist runs a McDojo in such a way. Notice how none of his students know any martial arts. It is because he doesn't know any to teach them. The children are not taught self control, but to run around like crazy and yell at each other. Everything you need to make a child a bully.
