As a higher belt and someone over 50, I often have concerns about dropping into a school. Will they pair me with a competitive purple belt or a collegiate wrestler with only a white belt? Fortunately, this did not occur, and I was lucky enough to find both on my own. Tim and his instructors were excellent and made me feel at home, while the other students were very welcoming. If you are in the Blacksburg area, I highly recommend checking out the school. I can not say enough good things about the quality of the Jiu Jitsu and the overall atmosphere.

Visited this gym while away for work, and I couldn’t have had a better experience. The instructor was very clear in detail of techniques and made them super simple for all levels of grapplers. Everyone was very controlled in their rolls, and did a great job taking care of their partners. I’ll be back the next opportunity I get.

These guys are great! I’ve had my 6 year old in classes for several months now. The coaches are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They do a great job working with kids of all skill levels.

I have been to Tim’s academy twice during the years my daughter went to VT. I was welcomed by the instructor of the night (both times, Tim was at a game watching his son play football and apologized) and I always had an excellent time while there. There were a bunch of college kids, of all nationalities, and some mixed adults, all having an amazing time with the beauty of bjj. If you are in the area I highly recommend you drop in or even sign up to learn at a place you can call a home. A+!!

Best academy around! Everyone is welcoming and friendly. All that people care about there is getting better at Jiujitsu and having a good time. Camaraderie is through the roof. The atmosphere is amazing and the only thing that isn’t tolerated is a poor attitude and mat bullies. People with those poor character attributes don’t seem to last long, and get their feelings hurt and post fabricated reviews on Google, (if they even show up at all). As someone with a middle eastern background, I can honestly say that I have NEVER been even remotely treated poorly. The only color anyone sees when I walk in is the color of my belt. Professor Tim Mannon is top notch, and he is a role model and mentor to all those who attend this academy. I hope someday I can have an impact on people’s lives like Tim does. Come take a free class, you won’t regret it!

Joining Team Mannon changed my life. It is the right amount of challenge that helps you improve your technique every time you step on the mats. Coach Tim and his black belts are special people. They give the best Jiu Jitsu advice and train up some of the best athletes in martial arts. Team Mannon BJJ academy is not just a gym, but a brotherhood and a place to learn and grow as a person. I recommend this gym over any other out there.

I stopped in for a Tuesday night BJJ class as I was passing through for a cross country move. Everyone i rolled with was awesome and very friendly. When I walked in some of the guys recognized I was new and explained the format of a typical class. I was also very impressed with the level of instruction and attention to detail. Highly recommend!

If you're in the area and you want to learn some high level BJJ Team Mannon BJJ is unquestionably the place to go. I don't live here but I'm passing through the area for a couple weeks and Tim was happy to take me in. Tim and the other upper level belts in the gym are a wealth of knowledge and provide insights and theory that you won't necessarily find at other gyms. Another huge plus is all the belts that train under him are honest belts - a Team Mannon blue belt is a blue belt at any gym in the country. Tim is a BJJ legend in the NRV and it's well deserved, stop by his gym if you're interested in learning a martial art or you just want to be competitive in a sport.

I really cannot speak highly enough of this place. Team Mannon was my intro to bjj a few years ago when I was in Blacksburg for school. I trained for two years and now, having moved and trained at a few other places, I realize Team Mannon has all you could ask for in a bjj academy: cleanliness, expertise, safety, lineage, and top-notch instruction. It's an environment that is challenging without being intimidating and that is proud of its affiliation without being pretentious. Wish there were more academies like this!

I started Jiu Jitsu with Tim in 2003 when he was located in Radford. Since that time, I’ve had the opportunity to train at a lot of different gyms, some of them half way around the world, and you won’t find any better than Team Mannon. Blacksburg is lucky to have such a great school with great instructors. If you are looking for a place to train, whether you are brand new to BJJ or have years of experience, do yourself a favor and check out Team Mannon.

I trained with these guys for five years and it was some of the best experiences of my life. If you want to challenge your body, your mind and learn valuable life skills then jiu-jitsu is for you. Team Mannon provides a room full of great people who care for each other and want to grow and learn in their craft. The instructors are top notch and are always willing to put in extra time to answer questions and help one on one. The facilities are always clean and safe. The instruction is the best I've experienced and Tim runs a great program. Try it out you won't be disappointed.

If you are serious about learning BJJ and MMA, then this academy is the place for you. The instructors are top notch and really work with you to make sure you understand every technique. Unlike some other BJJ academies, the black belts often jump in for a roll, which provides a great learning experience. Along with the teaching, what makes training at Team Mannon great are the people. Every instructor is down to earth and friendly. In essence, the academy is just one big family.
